When You Want to Love Me Again, I Don't Need it Anymore Chapter 1

I had a secret distress signal with my fiancé, the detective Ralph Oldman. "I want to see you!"

But when I was tortured by the thugs and managed to make a distress call, he coldly sneered. "I never want to see you again in this lifetime."

I closed my eyes, bitterly thinking, "Then I'll grant your wish."

Two days later, dismembered body parts were found floating in the water tower of the detective building.

As the forensic pathologist pieced together the remains, he deduced from the brutality of the killer's methods and intense vengeful motives that dumping the body in the detective building's water tower was a direct challenge to the authorities.

Ralph wasn't wrong in his assumptions, except he didn't know that the target of the killer's revenge was him!

.....

"What's going on? This stench is getting unbearable."

In front of the bathroom sink, Gary Fiennes turned on the tap, and a foul odor wafted out.

Ralph frowned at the continuously flowing water, pondered for a moment, and said, "Let's go upstairs and check."

Ralph, my fiancé, had risen to the rank of captain in the detective department at a young age.

He was clever, always hitting the mark with precision and fierceness in every case he handled.

He was dubbed "The Great Detective" within the investigative circles!

After my death, perhaps due to lingering attachments, my spirit could only follow Ralph around.

At this moment, as I trailed behind him, floating up to the rooftop, an intense fear gripped me for no apparent reason.

The door to the rooftop swung open, releasing an even stronger putrid smell that engulfed the entire rooftop.

With a swift step, Ralph climbed up the water tower, and I screamed, "Don't look."

I never wanted to appear before Ralph in such a grotesque state, not even in death!

But Ralph paid no heed, glancing into the water tower for a moment before jumping down and retching violently in a corner.

"What? Ralph, is there really something inside?" Gary's voice trembled.

In the past few days, they had been using that water to wash their hands, their cups and so on.

Gary almost threw up at the thought.

After Ralph finished retching, he waved at Gary. "Go call the colleagues from the forensic department."

So, my dismembered body was slowly retrieved from the water tower.

A total of 108 pieces, each one bloated from soaking in water.

For his colleagues in the forensic department, it was undeniably a massive challenge.

Seeing those body parts, I once again experienced excruciating pain.

"Damn, he's a real sicko. If I catch him, he's done for."

Gary covered his nose and mouth, cursing under his breath, unable to look at my body parts for too long.

Ralph turned without a word and headed downstairs.

Gary followed him. Suddenly, it seemed dawned on him as he asked, "Ralph, has your wife been looking for you lately?"

I instinctively looked at Ralph's expression.

His brows furrowed tightly, impatience evident on his face. "Stop bringing up irrelevant personnel. I'll say it again, she's not my wife."

Gary awkwardly scratched his nose, not daring to ask further.

My heart ached in waves.

He still hated me so much.

But maybe hating me was better than not, as it might make his grief more bearable after he faced the truth.

The first thing Ralph did when he went downstairs was to investigate all the surveillance cameras in the detective building but to no avail.

The rooftop cameras were out of order and hadn't been repaired for a while, as they were deemed unnecessary.

No one had ever thought that someone would bypass all the security measures in the detective building and dump a body on the rooftop.

While all the nearby cameras seemed to be functioning normally, they didn't capture any suspicious individuals.

Ralph's expression darkened.

He didn't understand. If the cameras showed nothing, how did the person manage to dump the body on the rooftop?

This was no different from a locked-room murder case.

In the absence of any leads, Ralph spent four days directly in the forensic department.

He witnessed firsthand the meticulous process of piecing together my dismembered remains.

Four days later, a headless, half-legged female corpse, devoid of internal organs, was presented before the onlookers.

Ralph, gazing at the body, didn't exhale in relief; rather, his brows furrowed sharply.

I couldn't help but wonder, "Does he feel a sense of familiarity? Will he recall me?"

Handing over a concise report, the coroner stated, "The deceased is a female aged between 24 and 27. The wounds on the body suggest extreme brutality before death. However, the cause of death is evident, bloodletting.

"Besides the missing head and half of the right leg, there's nothing on the body to identify the victim. After soaking in water for three days, it's challenging to obtain DNA evidence."

Nodding, Ralph earnestly studied the report in his hands.

After a pause, he pointed to a line and inquired, "There are signs of forcibly broken fingers on the right hand. Judging from the fracture, was it postmortem?"

Affirming, the coroner replied, "Indeed, after death, the body stiffens; particularly in cases of exsanguination, rigor mortis sets in faster. If forcefully broken post-rigor mortis, it results in such fractures."

"Alright, everyone has worked hard during this period. Let's also try to gather DNA evidence."

Patting the coroner's shoulder, Ralph swiftly exited, report in hand.
