When the Car Bluetooth Exposed My Fiancée’s Secret Chapter 1

My phone had run out of battery and because of that, my fiancée’s phone automatically connected to the car’s Bluetooth system. She didn’t realize it as she continued her conversation outside the vehicle.

“Did he catch on?” her best friend’s voice echoed from the speakers inside the car.

My fiancée’s voice followed, “Nope. I made it to the airport just in time. He didn’t notice a thing and thought I’d just returned from a business trip.”

“Your wedding date is set. Are you really going through with it?”

“I don’t know. Being with Damien Veyron gives me a sense of security, but everything feels too mundane, there’s no spark at all.”

Her friend burst out laughing. “Oh, so that puppy boy is the super romantic, passionate type? Now you’re stuck in a real dilemma, huh?”

“Don’t mock me. Damien and I are getting married in two weeks and I’m drowning in anxiety. I don’t want a dull life, but if I don’t marry him, the company’s reputation could take a huge hit. Help me figure this out?”

“You mean ditch Damien?”

“I don’t know.”

“Got it. You want both... I’ll draft a plan for you in the next couple of days.”

“Alright, I’ll hang up now.”

The call ended and she started walking toward me.

——

I had come to the airport full of anticipation, eager to pick her up, never once expecting to overhear such a conversation.

Since she wants both, unable to decide? Then I’ll decide for her.

Three years ago, Lyra Aldridge had gone abroad on a business trip and ended up kidnapped, dragged into the notorious Death Park. Her father offered an enormous reward: whoever saved her would have the right to marry her.

Fresh out of the military, I heard the news and rushed in to rescue her. I wasn’t after the bounty, nor did I have any intention of marrying Lyra. Back then, I had only one conviction: I couldn’t stand by and watch a fellow countryman suffer.

I rallied a group of friends and risked our lives to save her.

Maybe my dramatic entrance had left an impression too deep to forget. Though I never married her, Lyra began pursuing me.

She was stunningly beautiful and carried herself with such elegance. I couldn’t resist, I fell into her tender embrace.

We fell in love. But marriage was never brought up. She said her career came first and I didn’t press the issue either. My family had been against us from the start, refusing to even meet Lyra until this very day.

For three years, I worked tirelessly, sharing our moments of happiness in the hope that they would eventually relent. Finally, they agreed, allowing me to bring Lyra to a family banquet in three days’ time so they could meet her.

Today, I came to pick her up with more excitement than ever, only for her to crush all my hopes.

As she was about to get in the car, my phone finally powered back on. Even though we were parting ways, I still wanted to keep my dignity and preserve what little respect remained between us.

The moment she got in, my phone rang.

I frowned at the unfamiliar number flashing on the screen. But thanks to my specialized training, my memory was sharp, I recognized it immediately. It was a number saved in Lyra’s phone.

It belonged to her so-called “puppy-dog” assistant, Adrian Draemont.

What could he possibly want with me?

I answered.

“Hello Mr. Driver, Damien. I’m feeling unwell. Drive over to my place and take me to the hospital.”

He called me Mr. Driver, Damien?

At the company, my official role was Lyra’s bodyguard and driver. But everyone knew the truth of our relationship. Who in that company didn’t respectfully call me a Mr. Driver?

“Who do you think you are, talking to me that way?”

“I’m the CEO’s assistant. You’re the CEO’s driver. What’s wrong with me needing you? Can you afford to delay my treatment?”

“Adrian, what’s wrong?” Lyra’s anxious voice cut in.

“Ms. Lyra, you’re there too? Great. Have Damien come over, I feel terribly unwell. I can’t put my finger on it, but I just feel awful.”
