My hand trembled as I swiped through six more photos, each one more intimate than the last. The garlic began to burn in the pan, filling the kitchen with an acrid smell that seemed to match the taste in my mouth. I stared at the papers, the legal language swimming before my eyes. I didn't make it complicated. I signed.

But as I handed the papers back, the room began to tilt. The floor rushed up to meet me, and the last thing I saw was Greyson's face—not concerned, not rushing toward me, just watching as I collapsed.
