When My Alpha Imprisoned Me for His New Luna Chapter 1

The bond broke at exactly 10:47 PM, three minutes into the Mate Ceremony renewal.

I felt it the way you feel a bone snap—sudden, internal, and so complete that for a moment my body forgot how to process the information. Greyson's voice filled the ceremonial hall, formal and final: "I, Greyson Cole, Alpha of the Ironveil Pack, reject you, Ellie Spencer, as my mate and Luna."

The mark on my neck went cold first. Not numb—cold, like someone had pressed ice directly against the place where his teeth had once claimed me. Then it went hollow. Empty. The sensation was so specific I could map it: a door slamming shut in a room that no longer existed.

My wolf collapsed.

There was no other word for it. One moment she was there—faint, struggling, but present—and the next she was gone, like something had reached inside my chest and switched her off mid-breath. The absence was louder than any howl.

I didn't realize I'd fallen until my knees hit the ceremonial stone. The impact should have hurt, but I couldn't feel anything below my ribs. My hands braced against the cold granite, and I watched, detached, as blood dripped from somewhere onto the pale surface. My nose. I was bleeding from my nose.

The pack was silent. Two hundred wolves, and not one of them made a sound.

I looked up.

Greyson stood three feet away, his face blank, his cedar-and-iron scent still filling the space between us like it had any right to. He wasn't looking at me. He was already turning.

Marley stepped forward.

She wore white. Not a wedding dress—something simpler, ceremonial, like she'd known exactly how this would go and had dressed accordingly. Her jasmine scent hit me in a wave, manufactured and cloying, and I watched as Greyson reached for her with the same hand that had touched me an hour ago.

He pulled her close. Tilted her head to the side. And sank his teeth into her neck.

The crowd inhaled as one.

I felt it through the dying remnant of the bond—the exact moment his claim transferred. It was like watching someone take a key that used to open your door and fit it into a completely different lock. My body convulsed. I couldn't stop it. My hands curled against the stone, my spine arched, and something inside me that I didn't have a name for tried to claw its way out through my throat.

Marley gasped. Her eyes fluttered closed. Greyson's mark bloomed dark and fresh on her skin, and when he pulled back, his mouth was stained red.

The jasmine scent thickened. She leaned into him, her hand resting over the mark like she was checking to make sure it was real. Greyson's arm went around her waist.

I was still on my knees.

No one moved to help me. The Beta stood three feet to my left, his eyes fixed on the far wall. The Gamma was behind me somewhere. I could hear his breathing. But no one stepped forward.

Then—something stirred.

Not the bond. That was gone, cold and hollow and dead. This was deeper. Smaller. A whisper that came from the same place my wolf used to be, except it didn't sound like her. It sounded rawer. Angrier.

*Still here.*

My hands flattened against the stone.

*Still here.*

I pushed.

My legs shook as I stood. Blood dripped from my nose onto the white fabric of my ceremonial dress—the one I'd designed myself, the one I'd thought would be enough. My vision blurred at the edges, but I locked my knees and stayed upright.

Greyson still wasn't looking at me. He was murmuring something to Marley, his hand at the small of her back, and she was smiling.

I didn't say anything. There was nothing to say. The rejection vow had been spoken. The bond was severed. The mark was transferred. This wasn't a misunderstanding I could clarify or a mistake I could fix.

I turned.

The crowd parted as I walked. Not out of respect—out of something else. Uncertainty, maybe. Or discomfort. I kept my spine straight and my eyes forward, and the whisper inside me kept pace.

*Not yet. Not yet. Not yet.*

I made it to the corridor before my knees tried to give out again. I caught myself against the stone wall, pressing my back to it, and took inventory.

My mark was cold. My wolf was gone—or dormant, or something I didn't have a word for. My Luna privileges would be stripped by morning. I had no pack. No family. No external protection.

But the whisper was real.

I touched the hollow place on my neck once. The skin was still warm, but the mark beneath it felt like scar tissue—old, dead, irrelevant.

I straightened.

I would not collapse where they could see me.

I started walking. The corridor stretched ahead, empty and cold, and behind me the ceremony hall erupted in sound—cheers, applause, the pack celebrating their Alpha's new Luna.

I didn't look back.

By dawn, my quarters had been reassigned. I knew because I found my things in the hallway outside the door—three boxes, hastily packed, my clothes folded wrong. The Luna's suite now belonged to Marley. I could smell the jasmine from ten feet away.

Pack members walked past me without meeting my eyes. A junior warrior I'd helped train last spring stepped around my boxes like they were invisible. The healer who'd set my wrist two months ago looked through me entirely.

I carried the boxes down to a guest room on the third floor. No one offered to help.

The Beta found me an hour later. He knocked twice, then entered without waiting for permission.

"Formal notice," he said, and handed me a folded paper. His voice was flat. Professional. "Your ceremonial duties are revoked. Your seat at the Alpha's table is revoked. Your access to pack governance is revoked. Effective immediately."

I took the paper.

He shifted his weight. "Ellie—"

"That's all?" I asked.

He hesitated. "That's all."

I unfolded the notice. The words were printed, formal, signed by Greyson in his Alpha capacity. I read it twice, slowly, and felt the whisper inside me sharpen—not with grief, but with something colder.

The Beta was still standing there, uncomfortable, waiting for me to cry or beg or ask him to intervene.

I folded the paper back up and met his eyes.

"Thank you," I said.

He blinked. Then nodded. Then left.

I sat down on the edge of the narrow bed and touched the notice again. My fingers didn't shake.

The whisper was louder now.

*Still here.*
