"Tell me this is a joke," I said, dropping the thick paper dossier onto the glass table.
My assistant, Maya, shrank back into her chair. "Hale Biotech sent the final crisis packet ten minutes ago. It came directly from Evan's executive team, Nora."
I flipped to page four. My own face stared back at me under the stark fluorescent lights of my office.
A high-resolution photograph taken outside Evan’s penthouse three nights ago showed me laughing against his chest, wearing his oversized cashmere coat. Across the image, printed in bold red ink, ran the classification: *Primary PR Threat: Delusional stalker claiming an unauthorized relationship.*
"A delusional stalker," I repeated, my voice dead and flat.
"They want our firm to scrub the social feeds before the noon announcement," Maya whispered. "They offered triple our standard retainer if we release an NDA breach warning against... well, against the woman in the photo. They don't know it's you."
A dry laugh tore out of my throat.
Seven hours ago, Evan Hale had pulled me against his bare chest, kissed my forehead in the grey dawn, and whispered: *Wait for me today, Nora. After the press conference, we finally announce our future.*
"Cancel our retainer," I said, grabbing my blazer.
"Nora, wait! Where are you going?"
"To see the announcement myself."

The backstage wings of the Grand Plaza Hotel smelled of burnt coffee, hairspray, and hot television lights.
Dozens of monitors glowed in the dark hallway. On the main stage, flashes stropped against the blue Hale Biotech backdrop.
Evan stepped up to the podium. He wore the navy tailored suit I picked out for him last week. But his fingers were intertwined with someone else's.
Serena Vance. The biotech heiress whose father controlled seventy percent of the East Coast distribution network.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Evan’s smooth baritone boomed through the speakers. "Today marks not only a merger of resources, but the union of two families. Serena and I are thrilled to share our engagement with you."
Applause shattered through the ballroom.
I stood in the wings, my fingers resting lightly against the black curtain. My pulse didn't race. It turned to ice.
A reporter in the front row stood up before the applause died down, holding up a printout of the leaked penthouse photo.
"Mr. Hale! How does Miss Vance feel about the Omega photographed leaving your private residence at midnight on Tuesday?"
The room went dead silent. Serena’s polished smile faltered for a fraction of a second.
Evan didn't flinch. He adjusted the microphone, his expression radiating calm, easy condescension.
"That matter has already been handed to our legal team," Evan said smoothly. "Someone misunderstood our relationship. It was a temporary contractor who developed an unfortunate, one-sided obsession. We pity her, but we will not allow fabricated claims to tarnish today."
A ripple of low chuckles spread through the press corps.
"A contractor?" Serena chimed in, leaning toward Evan's microphone with an amused smirk. "Evan told me she was harmless. Just pathetic."
Evan squeezed her hand and gave the cameras a dazzling grin. "Entirely harmless, darling. The situation is handled."
In the wings, the last lingering trace of affection in my chest snapped cleanly in half. No tears. No pounding grief. Just an empty, hollow slate.
"Handled," I muttered to the empty curtain.
I turned my back on the stage.

"Hey! You're the PR director, right?" a voice shouted behind me as I reached the private corridor.
Two reporters with heavy camera rigs turned the corner, jogging toward me. "Miss Reed! Is it true Hale Biotech is filing a restraining order against the girl in the picture?"
I didn't answer. I broke into a fast stride down the west wing corridor, leaving the shouting voices behind. The noise echoed off the marble floors. I needed a door that locked.
At the end of the hallway, a brass plaque read: *Private VIP Salon - Strictly Reserved.*
I grabbed the brass handle, shoved the heavy mahogany door open, stepped inside, and threw the bolt shut.
The heavy thud of the lock cut the outside world to complete silence.
"You took a wrong turn, sweetheart."
The voice was low, velvet-rough, and rasped like flint striking stone.
I turned around.
The room was vast, paneled in dark walnut, with panoramic glass overlooking the Manhattan skyline. Three men sat around an antique marble conference table covered in holographic financial ledgers.
The Cross brothers.
The apex predators of New York finance. Rumor said they bought empires before breakfast and broke them apart for sport by noon. Hale Biotech was their rumored target for a hostile takeover, and seeing them here, in Hale's own venue, confirmed every whisper.
On the left sat Adrian, the youngest, leaned back in a leather armchair with his shirtsleeves rolled up, exposing dark tattoos crawling past his wrists.
To the right stood Luca, lean and razor-sharp, adjusting a platinum watch with an amused smirk playing on his lips.
And at the head of the table sat Damian Cross.
Broad-shouldered, mercilessly composed, with silver eyes that felt heavy enough to pin me against the wood.
"The press is outside," Adrian drawled, tilting his head as his hazel eyes raked over my tailored suit. "Did Evan Hale send his little spokesperson to beg for mercy?"
"Do I look like I'm begging?" I replied coolly.
Luca let out a soft whistle. "Sharp tongue for an Omega trapped in a room with three Alphas."
"You're trespassing on Hale grounds," I said, walking toward the center of the room. My legs didn't shake. I felt entirely detached from fear. "Though given the red figures on your takeover projection, I assume you're about to own the ground anyway."
Damian didn't speak. His intense silver gaze tracked every step I took. In front of him sat a crystal tumbler filled with two fingers of amber bourbon, completely untouched.
"You know what's on that screen?" Damian asked. His voice resonated in my ribcage, deep and commanding.
"I know Evan Hale's debt ratios are three times higher than he tells the press," I said, stopping right before his desk. "And I know Serena Vance's trust fund won't cover the margin call you're dropping on him at four o'clock."
Adrian sat up straight, his mocking smile vanishing. "Who the hell is she?"
"Nobody who cares about Hale Biotech anymore," I said.
My throat burned. The lingering taste of betrayal was foul, bitter, and suffocating.
Without breaking eye contact with Damian, I reached out, picked up his crystal glass, tipped my head back, and swallowed the bourbon in one long, searing gulp.
The alcohol scorched my tongue and hit my stomach like liquid fire.
I slammed the empty glass back down onto the marble. It cracked against the stone with a sharp *clack*.
"Thanks for the drink," I said, wiping a stray drop from my lower lip with the back of my hand. "Carry on with your ruin."
I turned to leave.
A sudden, violent change tore through the room.
The air became impossibly thick. My skin flared with heat, an electric shockwave erupting from the base of my neck. My natural scent—crushed jasmine and black tea—exploded through the closed room without warning, stripped raw by the surge of adrenaline in my blood.
Behind me, the sound of three men inhaling was simultaneous, sharp, and deafening.
A chair scraped violently across the floorboards.
"Lock the door," Damian commanded, his voice dropping an octave, shaking with an unbearable, suffocating weight.
Before I could take another step, Luca was already against the door, his palm flat against the wood, blocking the exit. His eyes were wide, the pupils blown completely black.
To my right, Adrian stood up, his towering frame trembling as his nostrils flared, drinking in the air.
"Holy shit," Adrian breathed, his voice unsteady. "Damian... tell me you smell that."
Damian rose from his seat. He stood over six feet three, massive and terrifying, his silver eyes completely dilated, locked onto me as if the rest of the universe had just ceased to exist.
The air thrummed with a heavy, magnetic pull so intense my knees nearly buckled. It wasn't dominance. It was biology screaming at full volume.
The true mate bond.
And it was snapping violently between me and all three of them.
Damian walked toward me, each step heavy enough to shake the floor. "Who are you?" he demanded, his chest heaving. "And what did you just do to us?"
