The bass from the club speakers slammed into Elena's ribcage like a living thing, a deep, relentless pulse that vibrated through her bones and made her teeth ache. The air was thick, almost syrupy, saturated with the cloying sweetness of expensive perfume, spilled vodka cranberries, and the sharp, musky tang of sweat from bodies grinding together on the dance floor. Neon lights violent pinks, electric blues, and blood-red strobes sliced through the haze, turning the writhing crowd into a chaotic painting of flashing limbs and half-hidden faces.
Elena leaned heavily against the cool, polished marble bar, the smooth stone grounding her as the world tilted lazily at the edges. Her fingers tightened around the champagne flute, condensation slick and cold against her palm. The bubbles rose lazily, tickling her nose with their crisp, faintly floral scent as she took another sip. The liquid was sweet on her tongue at first, then bitter at the back of her throat.
"You need to loosen up," Sophia had said earlier, pressing the second glass into her hand with that bright, too-perfect smile that never quite reached her eyes. The scent of her sister's perfume heavy vanilla and something artificially floral still clung to Elena's skin. "This is your last night of freedom before you marry that pig."
Elena had laughed then, the sound brittle even to her own ears. Nervous. Hopeful. Desperate. Tomorrow she would finally tell her father she was done. Done being a pawn in their twisted family games. Done with Marco's bruising grip and violent temper. One way or another, she was breaking free.
Now the room felt too warm, too close. Her skin tingled strangely, almost numb at the edges, as if her body belonged to someone else. The lights blurred, bleeding into one another like wet paint. She blinked hard, trying to clear the fog.
"Sophia?" she called, her voice swallowed whole by the pounding music. Her sister had vanished into the flashing crowd, leaving behind only the faint trace of vanilla and lies.
A tall man appeared beside her without warning.
He smelled like danger - rich sandalwood, faint gun oil, aged whiskey, and something darker, more primal. His presence cut through the chaos like a blade. Dark hair, sharp jawline, and eyes like midnight pools that seemed to swallow the neon lights whole. He didn't smile. He looked at her as if he already knew every secret she carried, every fear she buried.
"You look like you could use some air," he said, his voice low and smooth, velvet wrapped around steel. It slid over her skin and settled deep in her belly.
Elena meant to refuse. The words formed on her tongue but dissolved before they could escape. Instead, she nodded, letting him guide her through the sea of bodies. His hand settled at the small of her back - large, warm, and surprisingly gentle, yet undeniably possessive. The heat of his palm burned through the thin fabric of her dress.
The cool night air outside hit her flushed skin like a slap. Rain-scented wind carried the distant rumble of thunder and the sharp metallic tang of the city. But it didn't clear her head. If anything, the dizziness intensified. Colors bled at the edges of her vision. The ground felt unsteady beneath her heels.
"I... I should go back," she murmured, her tongue heavy and clumsy.
His fingers pressed a little firmer against her spine. "Just a moment longer"
She never made it back inside.
Elena woke slowly, drifting up through layers of fog and silk. The sheets beneath her were cool and impossibly smooth, whispering against her bare skin with every tiny movement. The room smelled expensive - rich sandalwood and gun oil, faint traces of sweat and sex, and something darker, more masculine that made her pulse flutter.
Two heavy arms held her.
One draped possessively across her waist, fingers splayed wide as if claiming territory even in sleep. The other rested on her thigh, warm and unyielding, thumb brushing lazy circles against her skin. The heat of two bodies pressed against her from both sides was overwhelming.
Her eyes flew open.
Two men. Identical faces. Same strong brows, same sculpted mouths, same dangerous aura that clung to them even in repose. One lay on his stomach, dark lashes casting long shadows on high cheekbones, his back a landscape of muscle and faint scars. The other faced her, his hand curved possessively over her hip, fingers digging in just enough to remind her she wasn't dreaming.
Panic surged through her like ice water in her veins. She tried to sit up, but the movement sent the room spinning violently. Flashes returned in jagged, heated pieces - strong hands sliding over her skin, heated kisses that tasted of whiskey and sin, whispered Italian words growled against her neck like both prayers and threats. The sensation of being completely overwhelmed. Wanted. Claimed.
She had never seen either of them before last night.
"Shit," she breathed. The word tasted bitter on her dry tongue.
The man beside her stirred. His eyes opened - deep brown, almost black - and locked onto hers with startling clarity. A slow, dangerous smile curved his lips, sending a shiver racing down her spine.
"Going somewhere, Bella?" His voice was rough with sleep, laced with dark amusement. The scent of him - sandalwood and something uniquely him - filled her senses.
Elena clutched the sheet tighter to her chest, her heart hammering against her ribs. "This... this was a mistake. I need to leave."
The man behind her shifted, pressing closer. His breath brushed hot against her bare shoulder, carrying the faint scent of mint and smoke. "Too late for that," he murmured, voice slightly deeper, more playful yet somehow more dangerous. "The whole city already knows."
Her stomach dropped like a stone. "What are you talking about?"
The first man reached lazily for his phone on the nightstand. The screen lit up, casting harsh blue light across their tangled, naked bodies. A gossip site headline screamed in bold letters: Rossi Don Spends Night with Rival's Intended Bride.
Elena's blood turned to ice. Alessandro Rossi. Everyone in their world knew that name - the man who ruled half the East Coast with an iron fist wrapped in velvet. And beside him in the blurry, damning photo - his brother Matteo.
She had slept with both of them.
"I have to go," she whispered, trying to slide out of the massive bed. A firm hand caught her wrist - warm, strong, unyielding.
Alessandro's gaze pinned her in place, dark and commanding. "You're not going anywhere. Not after this."
Matteo chuckled softly behind her, the low sound vibrating against her skin and sending an unwelcome shiver racing down her spine. "Welcome to the family, little dove. Whether you like it or not."
Elena stood in the middle of an enormous bedroom she didn't recognize, the oversized black shirt she wore smelling faintly of sandalwood and gun oil. The fabric was soft against her skin but felt like chains. Her own clothes were nowhere to be found.
Alessandro leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, watching her with calm, calculated intensity. Matteo lounged in a nearby leather chair, spinning a knife between his fingers like it was a child's toy, his eyes gleaming with dark amusement.
"My sister did this," Elena said, her voice shaking with a mixture of anger and fear. "She drugged me. I never meant-"
"We know," Alessandro cut in, his tone low and authoritative. "But the damage is done. Pictures are everywhere. Your father is already calling. Marco is furious."
She swallowed hard, the taste of fear bitter on her tongue. "Then let me explain. I'll fix this."
Matteo laughed, low and dark, the sound sending another unwelcome shiver through her. "There's no fixing it, sweetheart. You spent the night in our bed. In our world, that makes you ours."
"I belong to no one," she shot back, lifting her chin.
Alessandro pushed off the doorframe and crossed the room in three long strides. He stopped close enough that she could see the faint scar running through his left eyebrow and smell the faint trace of his cologne. His presence was overwhelming - cold control wrapped in raw power.
"You will marry me," he said quietly, each word deliberate. "A contract. Public. You'll live here, play the perfect wife in front of the world, and give me an heir. In return, I'll protect you from Marco and whatever mess your family has dragged you into."
Elena stared at him, heart hammering against her ribs. "And if I refuse?"
Matteo answered from behind her, his breath hot against her ear, his voice laced with dark promise. "Then we'll still keep you. But it won't be as... comfortable."
She turned, caught between them. One cold and commanding, the other teasing yet somehow more unpredictable. Both were watching her like she was something they had already decided to keep.
"I need time to think," she whispered, barely above a breath.
Alessandro's expression didn't soften. "You have until tonight. But know this - once you say yes, there's no going back. Not for any of us."
As he turned to leave, Elena caught the briefest glance between the brothers - a shared understanding, a silent claim that sent a chill down her spine.
Suddenly, terror crashed over her like a tidal wave. Knowing the Rossi twins, whatever was coming would be far worse than anything she could imagine, and the thought alone made her blood run cold.
