The Wife He Never Wanted Now Bound for Revenge Chapter 1

I was twenty when I married Sebastian Alvarado—my father’s friend, a man almost two decades older than me. People whispered that he was dangerous when they thought I wasn’t listening. Cold. Calculating. Always in command. But with me… he handled me like I might shatter if he moved too fast.

If I mentioned liking something, it would appear in our home before the sentence left my lips. If I complained of a stomach ache, he’d cancel meetings, brew ginger tea, and feed it to me as though I were fragile glass.

Sometimes, at night, when he kissed me, his voice would dip low, rough with an almost painful tenderness. “Sleep well, baby,” he’d murmur, like loving me took a piece of him with it.

And yet… all his accounts, passwords, and secret logins carried a single name: Valeria.

I thought it was sweet, tied to the song playing when we first met. Romantic, even. Until that night in his study.

I was tidying his old bookshelves and stumbled across a photo album. Flipping through it, I saw her. A girl who resembled me but better—softer, prettier, radiant beside a piano. On the back of each photo, the same words were scrawled in neat handwriting:

“My dearest Valeria.”

Something inside me broke then.

I don’t remember the fall, only the sudden, burning pain in my lower belly, the wetness spreading over me.

“Call an ambulance,” I whispered to the maid. “Now. And… don’t call Sebastian. Not ever.”

When I woke in the hospital, everything felt stark and unreal. A nurse with gentle eyes said, “I’m so sorry… the baby didn’t survive.”

She asked if I wanted to see the child.

I shook my head, my body trembling.

“No… please… no.”

Five months. Gone.

When I returned home, the house was silent, empty. At the dining table, I forced myself to write the divorce papers by hand, my fingers shaking so violently it took every ounce of control to finish.

I tried calling Sebastian. He always picked up quickly, cooing with that practiced warmth: “Sweetheart… what’s wrong?”

But that night, he didn’t answer. Twenty-three calls later, he finally did.

There was laughter in the background. Glass clinking. Someone teasing him.

“Wow… left your pregnant wife for her, huh?”

“She’s just a placeholder. Everyone knows he’s obsessed with Valeria.”

Another voice: “That wife… I’d keep her quiet and pretty if I were him.”

Then a soft voice. “Dom says my feet hurt… and he’s already kneeling at my side.”

I didn’t realize I was crying until the phone blurred in my hands.

And then his voice—calm, cold:

“Who’s got my phone?”

“Uh… nobody. Must’ve… picked it up by mistake,” a voice stammered.

Footsteps. Silence.

When he spoke again, it was soft, deliberate. The familiar husband mask returned:

“Baby… still awake? I have a late meeting. Go rest. I’ll take care of you and the baby when I get home, alright?”

My throat burned. “Sebastian… I called to say I want—”

Then her voice. Close, soft. “Dom, my feet hurt!”

His tone shifted instantly. “Maris… be quiet, go to sleep. I’ll be home soon.”

The line went dead.

I laughed. Not in amusement. Just emptiness.

I stared at the table. The divorce papers. The small box from the hospital. What remained of my baby.

I had loved him so fiercely. Yet I could still walk away.

Hours passed in silence before I finally picked up the box, sealed it, and placed it in the freezer.

Minutes later, the front door clicked open.

“Baby… why aren’t you in bed?” Sebastian’s jacket was slung over one arm, tie loose, tired yet flawless. “What are you doing by the fridge? Hungry?”

I didn’t speak. I just watched.

He hesitated, then smiled faintly. From behind him, he produced a small, elegant box. “Thought you’d like these. Had to run across the city to get them.”

Pastries. Each one a memory of mornings I couldn’t keep food down, when he had fussed over me lovingly. Once, I would have rushed into his arms. Now… I felt sick.

“What’s wrong?” he asked, frowning at my silence. “Is the baby troubling you?”

He reached for my stomach. I caught his hand.

“Sign this first,” I said, sliding the envelope across the counter.

He looked puzzled. “What’s this?”

Before he could respond, his phone buzzed. The name on the screen twisted my gut: Valeria.

He answered without hesitation, his voice softening immediately. I couldn’t hear her words, but his face softened, the familiar smile appearing.

When he hung up, he ignored the papers, grabbed a pen, scrawled his name on the last page, and headed for the door.

“Something came up,” he said, already moving. “Go to bed early, okay?”

He paused, offering that same gentle smile that had once undone me. “Next time you want something… just take it. We’re husband and wife. What’s mine is yours.”

I tightened my grip on the papers.

“Not for long,” I murmured.

He didn’t hear me. The door closed softly behind him.
