The Underboss’s Abandoned Bride Chapter 1

Two years after my blood-sworn sister married into the Falcone Family, she introduced me to the older brother. It felt almost like fate, the way our lives intertwined. Adriana married the younger one, Luca, the Family's Consigliere and legal fixer whose courtroom authority kept judges quiet and federal files thin. I married Dante, the firstborn, a celebrated trauma surgeon whose hospital career hid his real purpose: the Falcone Family's clandestine medico, the man who stitched soldiers back together after wars no newspaper reported. From the outside, it looked like we had both married into perfect lives.

Eight months into my pregnancy, when I was already counting down the days to meet my baby, everything changed in an instant. I was snatched without warning, dragged from the street before I could even process what was happening. A vendetta job. Quick, professional, brutal.

The man who took me grabbed my phone and dialed my husband's number. The call rang again and again. The first time, there was no answer. Then the second. Then the third.

Seven times in total, the line connected and disconnected, each attempt met with silence or rejection. With every failed call, I could feel the kidnapper's patience wearing thinner, his temper growing more volatile. His jaw shifted hard to one side with an audible click.

By the final attempt, he had completely lost control. His frustration erupted into violence as he kicked me hard in the stomach.

The pain was immediate and overwhelming, twisting through my body like a knife. I broke out in a cold sweat, my vision blurring as I collapsed onto the ground. Beneath me, a faint smear of red began to spread, staining the concrete floor.

There was one last attempt. This time, someone finally picked up.

But instead of help, I heard cold irritation. "Viviana fell at the plaza and is bleeding. Stop calling me, damn it! This isn't about you trying to get attention!"

The words struck harder than any blow.

When the call failed to produce the result he wanted, the kidnapper's frustration turned into pure rage. Without hesitation, he grabbed a knife and drove it straight into my belly.

A sharp, searing pain exploded through me, stealing the air from my lungs. At that moment, I truly felt death closing in.

Just as everything began to fade, Adriana managed to track my location through my phone. She arrived just in time to find me lying in a pool of blood, barely conscious.

Panicked, she immediately called her husband, the Consigliere, hoping he could help.

But all she received in return was a brief message: [Viviana's in court. Do not disturb.]

The coldness of those words froze her where she stood.

She tried calling for help next, but there was no signal in the remote area. The phone showed nothing but failure. No cops on payroll to summon, no soldiers to dispatch. Nothing.

With no one else to rely on, she forced herself to act. She dragged me into her car with trembling hands, determined to get me down the mountain road and to the Family's private clinic.

But fate had other plans.

A sudden landslide blocked the road ahead, cutting off any chance of escape. Rocks and mud covered the path completely, leaving us trapped in the middle of nowhere, on a road the Family used for runs no civilian was meant to see.

Rain began to pour heavily, soaking everything, turning the ground into thick, clinging mud. Time seemed to stretch endlessly as we waited, helpless and isolated.

It was a state game warden who eventually found us, arriving like a miracle at the edge of despair. Gabriel Rinaldi crouched beside us before he spoke a single word, refusing to tower over two women already on the ground. He pulled us back from the brink of death.

When I finally regained consciousness, my mind was strangely clear. The first thought that surfaced was simple and absolute: divorce. The alliance was over. Whatever the Falcone name meant, whatever breaking it would cost, I was done.

My thumb rubbed the pale mark where my wedding ring had sat. I refused to cry.

After confirming that Adriana had survived as well, I immediately picked up my phone and sent Dante a message. I told him I wanted out, no hesitation, no explanation.

Two days passed. There was no reply.

Finally, I sent another message: [Our baby is gone.]

That was what it took to get his attention. For the first time, he called me back.

"Bianca, is this what you've come to?" His voice was cold and filled with accusation. "If I don't answer, you threaten to hurt the heir?"

His words continued, harsh and relentless. "Didn't I tell you to stay home and rest? You had to go out on these ridiculous whims, calling me eight times like a lunatic!"

"There was an incident at the plaza. Viviana was there, and she almost lost her child from the fright. Do you understand that? Two lives were at stake!"
