The Rejected Luna's Spectacular Genius Comeback Chapter 1

BIRD STANLEY POV:

I pushed open the heavy oak door, and the silence hit me first.

It was a cold, vast emptiness that mirrored the hollow space inside my own body. The house was dark, exactly as I had left it hours ago when the cramps started.

I didn't turn on the lights.

My bare feet padded across the marble floor, the chill seeping into my bones. The air held no trace of Archibald's scent, only the sterile smell of expensive wood polish and cleaning agents.

My hand instinctively went to my flat stomach. The void there was sharper, more real than any physical pain. The doctor's words echoed in the silence of my mind.

"I'm sorry, Mrs. Waters. We did everything we could."

I drifted into the living room, my eyes drawn to the fireplace. On the mantel sat our only photograph together.

In it, I was smiling like a fool. Archibald, my mate, my Alpha, stood beside me with the stiff formality of a stranger, not even bothering to fake a curve on his lips.

I reached for it, my fingers trembling, wanting to snatch it down, to erase the memory.

But they stopped.

A reflection in the glass.

Behind my own ghostly image, the photograph captured the couch. And on that couch was something that didn't belong.

A ladies' wrap, trimmed with delicate lace.

My heart didn't just sink. It stopped.

That was Seraphina Vance's favorite brand. The woman he loved, his childhood sweetheart, the one he was supposed to be with before I came along.

She was back.

The blood in my veins turned to ice. I turned slowly, a puppet on a string, and walked toward the wrap. A foreign, cloyingly sweet perfume hit my nose. The scent of another Omega.

In our home.

While I was in a cold hospital bed, losing our child, my Alpha, my mate, was bringing his past love into our home.

A laugh escaped my lips. It was a silent, broken thing.

Tears followed, hot tracks down my cold cheeks. They fell onto the priceless rug, making no sound at all.

I didn't hesitate anymore.

I walked up the grand staircase to the second floor and into his dressing room. Everything was perfect, organized, like a luxury storefront. It wasn't a home. It was a display.

My own closet was attached. I opened it. Inside were a few plain dresses, a pair of jeans. As the Luna of the Blackwater Pack, I owned less than some of the junior members.

From the very bottom, I dragged out a small suitcase. It was the one I'd brought with me three years ago when I married him. The only thing that was truly mine.

My movements were slow but steady as I began to pack.

I took none of the things he had bought me. Only my own worn clothes, an old book, and the simple necklace my mother had left me.

With every item I placed inside, I felt a chain loosening around my chest. I once believed my love, my submission, could earn his.

I was wrong.

To someone who doesn't love you, even your death is just an inconvenience.

My phone lit up on the nightstand. A financial news alert.

The headline read: Alpha Archibald Waters of Waters Corporation Dines with Returning Scholar Seraphina Vance, Rekindling Old Flames.

The picture showed Archibald pulling out a chair for her. The smile on his face was a gentle, tender thing I had never seen before.

I stared at the photo. My heart was just a numb, heavy stone in my chest. So this is what it felt like to be truly heartbroken. Not pain, just... nothing.

I picked up the phone, ignoring the flood of comments congratulating him. I dialed the private line for the Pack Elders.

An ancient voice answered. "Luna?"

I took a deep breath, my own voice so calm it startled me.

"I, Bird Stanley, Luna of the Blackwater Pack, formally request to initiate The Rejection."

The line went dead silent. Rejecting an Alpha, especially a Pack leader, was an act of profound betrayal in the eyes of our people.

"Luna, are you certain?" the Elder finally asked, his voice thick with shock. "According to the pack laws, once initiated, there is no turning back."

The law was absolute. The Rejection, once accepted by both parties, would sever the sacred mate-bond blessed by the Moon Goddess herself. It was a spiritual death.

"I'm certain," I said, no trace of doubt in my voice.

Just then, the sound of a car engine purred from the driveway below.

He was back.

I ended the call, tossed the phone into my suitcase, and snapped it shut.

I walked to the window and watched the familiar Bentley pull up. Archibald stepped out, his expensive suit immaculate, his blond hair perfectly styled.

He looked up, as if sensing my gaze. His ice-blue eyes met mine, but there was no emotion in them. He looked at me like I was a stranger.

I pulled the curtains closed.

I sat on my suitcase and waited. This farce was about to end.
