I raised an eyebrow. "If you're a caregiver, then why aren't you taking care of my mother? Instead, you're sitting here watching TV and having others serve tea for you?"

My mother had always cherished that necklace so much that she never wore it. I could not believe it was now around this woman's neck.

Just then, my father came down from the stairs. "Why all the commotion? Didn't I say that everyone in the house should listen to Meylin Lawrence?"

As soon as he finished speaking, my father saw me, his daughter, who had been away for so long, standing in the middle of the hall. He almost twisted his ankle and fell down the stairs.
