The Luna He Cast Aside Claimed the Alpha Throne Chapter 1

The Moon did not howl for me anymore.

That was how I knew something was wrong.

Every Luna learned to feel it—the gentle pulse beneath the ribs, the invisible tether to the silver light that bound mate to mate, heir to pack. It had been there since the night Kael branded me with his mark beneath the High Moon, when I was still foolish enough to believe devotion could outlast ambition.

But tonight, the Moon was silent.

I knelt alone inside the birthing chamber, my hands braced against the cold obsidian altar. Silver runes burned faintly across its surface, yet the sacred warmth that should have flowed into my womb was absent, leaving only a creeping numbness behind my navel.

“Come on…” I whispered hoarsely, pressing my palm against my abdomen. “Please. You’re still there. I can feel you.”

Nothing answered.

The ritual circle flickered. The carved wolf sigils dulled from white to gray, as though something unseen was devouring the magic midair.

A sharp pain speared through my spine.

I gasped, clutching the edge of the altar as my knees nearly gave way. My wolf whimpered in terror inside me, pacing like a trapped shadow.

This wasn’t labor.

It was extraction.

The doors to the chamber groaned open behind me. Footsteps echoed across the stone floor—unhurried, deliberate.

“Still trying to cling to something you were never meant to keep?” a familiar voice said lightly.

I twisted around.

Lyra stood framed in moonlight, her long raven braid resting neatly over her shoulder, her pale eyes glowing faintly gold—the sign of forbidden rites touching the blood.

My best friend.

My former sister.

The woman who had once sworn she would stand at my side when I became Luna.

“Lyra… what are you doing here?” My voice trembled despite my effort to steady it. “This chamber is sealed. Only the Alpha and his mate—”

“—and the one who controls the blood-keys,” she finished, lifting her hand. A sigil flared across her palm, crimson lines twisting into a pattern I had never seen before.

My stomach dropped.

Blood-keys were older than pack law. They predated the Moon Goddess herself—relics of the age when wolves stole power instead of earning it.

“You shouldn’t have those,” I whispered.

Lyra smiled.

“You always were too devoted to tradition, Elira. That’s why you were never fit to sit beside Kael.”

The rune circle pulsed violently.

Pain exploded inside me.

I screamed as invisible claws ripped through my womb—not flesh, not blood, but something deeper. Something spiritual. My wolf shrieked in agony as a silver thread was torn free from my core, unraveling like mist in a storm.

“No—no, please!” I sobbed, collapsing to my knees. “That’s my child—stop—Lyra, stop!”

She crouched in front of me, her fingers hovering inches from my abdomen as silver light streamed into her palm, twisting into the shape of a fragile, glowing shard.

An unborn soul.

“You don’t get to claim heirs anymore,” she said softly. “That right belongs to me now.”

The shard dissolved into smoke and vanished into her chest.

I screamed until my throat bled.

By the time Kael finally arrived, I was curled on the cold stone floor, my body shaking uncontrollably as blood-magic residue crawled across my skin like frostbite.

He didn’t rush to me.

He stopped three paces away.

“What did you do?” he demanded, his voice low and sharp.

I lifted my head, tears blinding me. “Kael… our baby—something’s wrong. I can’t feel the Moon anymore. I need you—please—”

Lyra stood smoothly and stepped into his arms.

“She rejected the blessing,” Lyra said calmly. “I walked in just in time to see her tear apart the ritual circle.”

My heart shattered.

“That’s a lie,” I whispered. “She stole our heir. I felt it. She used blood-keys—”

Kael’s eyes hardened.

“You expect me to believe that?” he snapped. “Do you have any idea how dangerous those relics are? Only the Council Elders can—”

“—access them,” Lyra interrupted gently. “Which is why I came running the moment I sensed the distortion. I thought you deserved to know the truth before the pack does.”

His jaw tightened.

“Elira,” he said coldly, “you lost control. And now you’re inventing accusations to hide your failure.”

Failure.

The word lodged in my chest like a poisoned blade.

“I didn’t fail,” I whispered. “Our baby was taken.”

“You rejected the Moon,” he said, each word deliberate. “There is no heir without blessing. That is law.”

I laughed weakly, hysterically. “You think I chose this? You think I would throw away my own child?”

He didn’t answer.

That silence was my sentence.

The healers were summoned—not to restore me, but to cleanse the chamber of “corruption.” They spoke in hushed tones as they brushed salt and ash across the floor where I had bled spirit instead of blood.

I was not taken to the infirmary.

I was escorted back to my chambers like a criminal.

No one spoke to me.

The bond-link between Kael and me felt different now—muted, distant, as though someone had draped a thick veil between our souls. He didn’t come that night. Or the next.

On the third evening, I finally forced myself to leave the room.

The corridors buzzed with whispers.

“She couldn’t hold the heir…”

“The Moon doesn’t bless traitors…”

“Lyra’s scent is changing—maybe she’s the one meant to be Luna…”

I stood behind a stone pillar, my nails biting into my palms, as my world reassembled itself around my absence.

I went to the ancestral shrine where my father’s spirit lamp was kept—a dim crystal flame that pulsed weakly against the growing shadows.

Papa.

Even bound to the altar, his life-force was fading. The healers had told me weeks ago: without a completed Moon-heir ritual to anchor our bloodline, his spirit would eventually slip into the Veil.

I knelt before the shrine, pressing my forehead to the stone.

“I failed you,” I whispered. “I thought if I could give Kael an heir, he would finally protect you. Protect us.”

The crystal flickered.

For the first time since the ritual, I felt something stir inside me—not warmth, not bond, but fury.

That night, I opened a sealed contact-scroll I had sworn never to use.

Nicero Blackfang.

The rival Alpha.

The wolf Kael had once tried to crush during the Northern Border Wars.

My enemy since academy days. The one who had always looked at me like I was something he wanted to own—not break.

I stared at the glowing sigil for a long time before activating it.

His voice came through low and amused. “So. The perfect Luna finally falls.”

“I need your help,” I said, my voice steady despite the blood roaring in my ears.

A pause.

Then a slow exhale. “I’ve been waiting for you to say that for years.”

“My father is dying,” I said. “His spirit is fading. The only way to bind him is through your ancestral altar. Your territory still holds the old Moon-root.”

Silence again.

“Do you know what you’re asking?” Nicero murmured. “Binding your bloodline to mine is not charity. It is a contract bond.”

“I know.”

“And Kael?” he added softly.

I closed my eyes.

“I will sever the mate-mark.”

When I opened them again, the Moon above the balcony had begun to dim, its silver light thinning like a dying echo.

“Then come to Blackfang in seven nights,” Nicero said. “Once the bond is cut, there is no returning to your pack. No forgiveness. No mercy.”

My hands trembled—but I did not hesitate.

“I have nothing left to lose.”

And for the first time since the Moon turned its back on me, I meant it.
