Angel groaned loudly. She wanted to shove her heels into Finn's big mouth because she was sick of hearing his chatter.
"What?" Angel asked fiercely.
"I think my brother needs a wife to stop his bad habit. He is thirty-six. My mother will set his up with one of her socialite friends' children."
"Do you think Xander would want to be matched with a stranger he's never met?"
"No. Of course, not. Xander and my mother are in a cold war now. My mother will fly here from Milan this weekend to lecture my stubborn brother."
"Well, your mother has every right to be worried about Xander's future. What about you?" Angel changed the topic quickly.
She didn't want to suddenly faint in front of Finn just because they were talking about a lucky woman who would be Xander's future wife. Angel wasn't ready to see her boss get married to someone. Seeing Xander dating some beautiful women broke her heart. She couldn't imagine herself coming to Xander's wedding. It would break her heart even more.
"I have Lucretia. And our relationship got good approval from my family and her family. You know, I'm safe. I won't be matched with anyone."
"Yeah, how lucky you are. Lucretia is so kind to date an ugly guy like you," Angel stuck out her tongue mockingly.
"I'm not blessed with good looks like my brother. He always makes me jealous," Finn snorted as he folded his arms across his chest.
Together they watched the couples dance on the dance floor. Men and women danced gracefully to the classical music from the orchestra. Angela had to be content with just being a spectator because she didn't have a partner to dance with. She didn't even have any friends other than Finn at the office.
Working as Xander's secretary meant she didn't have many friends in the office. She always just followed Xander wherever he took her. She rarely went to the cafe with the staff during lunch time because sometimes Xander took her to have lunch with his clients. Angela only knew a few people at the party, including the reception staff, Clara, Celine, and Gloria. They danced with their respective partners and seemed to really enjoy the party. The men seemed to be from the marketing division. She had heard rumors that the men in the marketing division were quite attractive. Some of them were even quite handsome. Unfortunately, Angela was never attracted to the men in her office like she was attracted to Xander.
"What are you doing here?"
His hoarse and sexy voice startled Angela who was lost in thought. Her body stiffened. She looked down to hide the blush on her face. It was as if she had just been caught red-handed imagining her boss in all kinds of dirty fantasies.
"Hey brother, what are you doing in this quiet and boring corner of the ballroom?"
"What are you doing here? You already have Lucretia. Don't flirt with my secretary."
Xander frowned at Angel.
"Are you okay, Ms. Celeste?"
"Y-yeah. I'm fine," Angela stuttered, tucking her hair behind her ear.
"Don't worry bro, she's safe with me. I was just chatting with Angel. And just so you know I'm not flirting with Angel. I am loyal to Lucretia."
Xander ignored Finn's sarcasm, and jumped to the next topic.
"You should enjoy the party by dancing with the others."
"I'm not in the mood. I don't think Angel does either, so I accompanied her here."
"Don't you want to dance with someone, Angel?"
"Eee... I'm a little dizzy after drinking champagne. So I'd better stay here."
"You only took a few sips. It won't give you a headache."
Damn! Angel cursed in her heart. Whether Xander was really paying attention to her all along or he was just guessing, but what he said was very true. She didn't drink much champagne tonight. Actually, she wasn't in the mood to attend this party because she knew that Xander would definitely be the center of the world for all those women.
"Hey dude, don't push Angel too much. You know that men and women are different. For you, a few sips of champagne won't give you a headache. But women have very complicated hormones. Besides, it's her day."
"The day? It's Thursday, Friday night."
Finn rolled his eyes in annoyance. His brother might be a cassanova, but he was a complete fool when it came to women.
"I know it's Friday night. But that's not it. Angel is having her period."
Angel's eyes widened. How could Finn say something like that in front of her boss? Oh God, Angel wanted to hide behind a pillar now. She was embarrassed to face Xander.
"Really Angel?"
Finn looked at her sharply. Angel was forced to nod even though she wasn't in her period.
"Are you okay? You can go home and rest if you are sick."
"That is a good idea. I'll go home and call a taxi."
"She is sick." Finn suddenly interrupted. "You should take her home."
"You don't need to. I can call an Uber or a taxi myself."
"Let my brother take you home, Angel. You should not take a taxi home alone."
Angel shook her head firmly, trying to reject Finn's crazy idea.
"Hey, are you deaf? Go take Angel home now."
Before Xander could speak, a sexy woman with burgundy hair came from behind his back. The burgundy woman touched Xander's shoulder gently. The nude nail polish sprinkled with fake diamonds looked very contrasting with the dark suit Xander was wearing tonight.
"Honey, what took you so long?"
"I'm talking to my brother."
"Oh. And who is this woman?"
The burgundy woman looked at Angel with a scornful look. Her eyes moved openly to scan Angel's body from head to toe. That made Angel very angry and humiliated.
"I'm Mr. Whithold-"
"She's my secretary, Angela Celeste. And this is my little brother, Finn."
"Laudya Estelle," The burgundy woman said briefly.
"Xander, we need to get back on the dance floor. They are all waiting for us."
"Why don't you go yourself and let my brother stay here with us."
"Xander is my partner tonight."
Angel knew what the blonde woman said meant. Xander would not only be her dance partner, but he would also be her partner in bed.
"Okay. Finn, please call a taxi or Uber for Angel. Make sure she gets home safely. I have to go back to my party."
Finn snorted. Angel gave him a sharp look to stop him from blabbering nonsense in front of Xander.
"Don't worry, I'll be fine. Enjoy the party. See you at the office on Monday."
There was a part of Angel that didn't want to leave Xander tonight. Her legs felt very heavy as she turned to leave the ballroom. She always felt that feeling every time she had to go home first and leave Xander with his party. She was sure Xander wouldn't party without dragging one of the most beautiful women at the party into his bed. She was really stupid for hoping that she would be one of the women Xander took to his bed. Yeah, even it was just once, Angel really wanted to try it. But she knew things like that wouldn't be good for her career and their relationship at the office.
"Angel, wait for me. Why are you walking so fast?"
Finn caught up with her when she was standing in the lobby waiting for her Uber to come.
"What are you doing here? You should stay inside to party with the others."
"Tsk, the party is boring. I miss Lucretia."
"You should follow her to Paris. She will definitely be delighted to find you in one of the bleachers to watch her walk down the catwalk."
"Actually, I really want to, but I can't leave the office. Xander threatened to cut my salary by fifty percent if I missed work too often."
Angel laughed. The Whithold brothers were such contrasts. Xander was cold and a workaholic, while Finn was warm and not so workaholic. Finn enjoyed life more than Xander. Finn could laugh whenever he wanted to laugh, while Xander never laughed. Finn was a man who was loyal to one woman, while Xander had many women in his life. The differences in their characteristics were too contrasting. That was what made Angel sometimes doubt the sibling relationship between them.
"You have to work harder. Like Xander."
"Tsk, that's boring. Xander can't enjoy life because he works too much."
"I admit that's true. He rarely smiles like you."
"You're not the only one who wants to see him smile. By the way, are you sure you don't want me to take you home?"
"Nope. I'm fine with Uber. I should have brought my own car instead of accepting Xander's offer to come here with him."
"I told you that Xander is an asshole. He abandoned you after using you to pose in front of all the cameras tonight."
She admitted it was true. Xander used her to come to the party as his partner on the red carpet. And after all the red carpet ceremonies ended, Xander quickly forgot about her and went with the beautiful women who surrounded him.
"It is my duty to accompany him on the red carpet because I'm his secretary."
"That's right. But sometimes Xander goes too far with you. He asks too much of you."
"Never mind, Finn. No need to make a big deal out of it. I'm fine, okay. Look, my Uber has arrived."
She waved softly at Finn and hurriedly got into the car. She wanted to calm herself down. She had heard enough of Finn's words about Xander. Tonight would be like any other night. She would sleep with Xander's face in every erotic dream.
Weekends were always unpleasant days for Angel. She couldn't see Xander on weekends. She preferred weekdays, where she could always see Xander and do all the tasks Xander gave her. She had been daydreaming more in her room since returning from the party. She thought about what Xander would do with the burgundy at his villa in the mountains.
That would be fun, she thought bitterly. There was nothing unpleasant during that time with Xander. She even felt very comfortable working with Xander as his secretary for many years. Thanks to Finn, who gave her the job.
When she first told Finn that she needed a job, Finn immediately offered her to be his brother's secretary. His brother's secretary had just retired. Finn complained about how difficult it was to find a secretary who could work with his brother. All of his new secretaries were very flirtatious and liked to tease his brother in the office. Some even did it straight away on their first day of work. That was something Xander really hated. Even though he was famous as a player with dozens of women he had slept with, Xander didn't like people who were unprofessional when they worked with him.
So far, Angel had succeeded in overcoming all the obstacles she and Xander faced. On her first day of work, she encountered several obstacles. She needed to adjust to Xander's very fast work rhythm. After a week, she started to get used to her job and Xander didn't yell at her anymore. But one thing that Angel never liked was Xander's habit of dating his female clients, which sometimes crossed the line. In between their meetings at the office or in other more private places, they would steal the opportunity to just have foreplay or even quick sex. Angel had to witness it all the time. She couldn't share it with anyone because it was one of Xander's privacy that needed to be protected. She always had to pretend she never saw all those scenes and worked professionally.
"Angel, can you come to my room now?"
"Yes sir."
Angel got up from her chair and entered Xander's room. The masculine scent always made her heart pound. She walked over to Xander with a faint smile and stiff steps.
"How is your condition?"
"Sorry?"
"You were sick last week because you were on your period. Are you okay now?"
Honestly, Angel was a bit surprised. This was the first time Xander asked about her condition.
"I'm fine. Resting for a few days was enough to recover my condition. How about you, sir?"
"What?"
Angel bit her lip nervously. She cursed herself for suddenly asking that question. Xander watched her intensely, one of his hands playing with a pen on the table.
"Your weekend. Did everything go smoothly?"
"Yeah. I had fun."
Angel nodded slowly in disappointment. There's no way Xander isn't having fun, she thought angrily. Xander spent the whole weekend with the sexy burgundy.
"I played golf with Finn and had dinner with my mother who had just come from Milan. The two of them completely slaughtered me at the dining table because of my lifestyle."
"Sorry? Didn't you go to the villa with that burgundy? Uh, I mean..." Angel suddenly stopped her words in confusion. She forgot the woman's name.
"That burgundy? You mean Laudya?"
"Oh yeah. Sorry, I forgot her name."
"I don't go anywhere with her. Right now, I'm not in the mood to flirt with anyone."
Angel was shocked, but she restrained herself from acting as normal as possible in front of Xander. After all, this was something very surprising for her. Xander suddenly got bored with those sexy women? Hard to believe!
"Sit down. You'll get tired if you keep standing there."
"You want me to do something for you?" Angel tried to confirm as she pulled up one of the chairs in front of her.
"I want you to give me a solution."
"A solution?" Angel asked hesitantly.
"Yeah. Sit down."
"Okay. Maybe I can help. But don't expect too much, sir."
"Sometimes I feel uncomfortable hearing you call me too formally like that. Just Xander. We're not working right now."
"Oh, I'm sorry. This has never happened before."
"And stop apologizing," Xander growled. He slumped back against the back of his comfortable leather chair. One of his elbows was placed on the chair handle in a bossy style.
"I just spoke according to the etiquette I learned."
"To hell with etiquette. You and Finn can get along really well with each other without having to use etiquette."
"Finn and I are friends. We are familiar with each other."
"What about me? You've been my secretary for over four years. Don't you want to consider me your friend?"
Her forehead furrowed faintly. "You are my boss."
"Alright. Forget it. So, My mother set me up with a woman. Actually, we were arranged to be married since we were little. I just never took it seriously. Besides, I haven't seen the woman in a long time."
"That's good," Angel smiled bitterly.
Nothing hurt her more than hearing that her crush had a fiancée since he was a kid.
"Do you agree?"
"Fuck no. Of course not. I don't like old-fashioned methods like that. I prefer to live freely without ties."
"But maybe that's what's best for you. Your mother wants you to start getting serious about your life. You have to think about family."
"I don't want to have a family. I don't like children. They are troublesome little creatures."
"Actually, they are very cute and adorable."
"You're the type of woman who likes children, huh?"
"I don't have any problems with children. I have several nieces and nephews in Virginia. They're cute."
"Yeah, I can't imagine myself with those naughty boys who make a lot of noise."
Angel laughed at Xander's disgusted expression. He wasn't just grumbling, but it seemed Xander really didn't like children.
"Before you grew into a man, you were a child."
"I know. That's why I don't want to have children. Life from childhood to adulthood is not easy. I grew up alone, without a father figure beside me to help me grow into the ideal man, according to my mother. I have a responsibility to my mother and Finn to ensure their well-being."
"I understand," said Angel stiffly. "You still have deep sadness over what happened to your father?"
"Sometimes. Life must go on. I can't wallow in that sadness forever."
Angel stared at Xander for a long time before she decided to say it. "Have you tried seeing a psychiatrist?"
"You think I'm crazy, huh? I'm not crazy, Angel. I am sane and have all my senses to the full."
"That's not what I meant. You may be able to ask for professional help with your problem."
"No one understands my problems. Nobody understands me."
If she could, Angel really wanted to scream in his face that she understood Xander quite well. She knew his likes and dislikes. She always served Xander as best as possible while being his secretary. But did Xander ever realize it?
"You can get out now and get back to work, Angel."
Angel nodded stiffly. Her heels turned quickly, and she pushed herself up to quickly reach the door. She couldn't stay in Xander's room for long this time. Especially, with all the sadness that spread in her heart.
"Oh, I forgot to tell you."
Angel stopped in the doorway, almost pushing it closed.
"In ten minutes a representative from the agency's office will come. Sarah Houston. She and I will have an hour of important time. Don't let anyone in."
"Yes sir. I understand."
The door to his room closed without Xander ever realizing the stiff expression on Angel's face.
The club was very loud and full of very passionate people. The dance floor was the part that people love the most. Tucked away among the others was Angel. She was dancing like crazy with one of her crazy cousins, Ellena. She had just come from Las Vegas for a photo shoot for a famous fashion magazine. Ellena deliberately stayed at Angel's apartment while she was spending her two weeks of holiday in New York. And the first thing Ellena did was take her boring cousin to a party.
"Wow, isn't this fun, cousin?"
"Superb!" shouted Angel amidst the deafening music. All her nerves were shaking and awakening to the party.
"I told you that you should have fun once in a while. Being a secretary makes you age faster."
"I like my job."
"Billshit. Over time, you will become a company slave and shit."
Angel ignored her cousin's sarcasm and continued dancing to the music. She freed herself to do anything tonight. She even wore one of Ellena's sexy dresses that she had just brought from Las Vegas. The dress was thigh-length, had a deep V-neck and almost touched her navel. Underneath the dress she only wore a thin thong and something for her breast. It was definitely not a bra. She didn't wear it at all tonight. Ellena gave her a bra cup with tape to protect her precious assets.
"Psst..."
"What?"
"A man is approaching you," Ellena elbowed her hard in the arm.
Angel looked to the right to find the man Ellena was referring to. His face was not bad. He wore dark blue denim, a fitted t-shirt and a leather jacket. His style was masculine and not too bawdy like the others. Angel felt she needed to give the man a chance. Especially because she wanted to forget the face of her asshole boss.
"Hi."
"Hi."
"I've been watching you and seeing something beautiful in you."
"Interesting. What do you want from my cousin?" Ellena giggled beside her.
She pushed Angel to approach the man. She encouraged with whispers that sounded like the devil.
"He is quite handsome. Let's see if his wallet is as handsome as his face or not?"
Angel glanced at her cousin briefly and tried to ignore her. She was not really a material woman. But, the idea that Ellena put forward was quite good. She had to know first whether this man had money or not.
"Want to drink with me?"
"Of course. By the way, I'm Angel. And this is my cousin, Ellena."
"Hello. You can take my sexy cousin with you," Ellena waved her hand in the air.
"I'm Dimitri. Pleased to meet you."
"Pleased to meet you too. But you had better get my cousin out of here before another man takes her from you," Ellena giggled annoyingly.
Angel really wanted to hit her on the head so that her cousin could be a little saner.
"Okay. Come on, Angel. You can order whatever you want."
"Thank You."
Angel walked after Dimitri towards a quieter bar counter. She looked back to see her crazy cousin. Ellena was flirting with a man in a red shirt who was interested in her. Angel chuckled seeing her cousin who was very excited tonight. She was grateful because Ellena called her this afternoon and said that she had landed at the airport. Her cousin really liked having unexpected surprises. Angel was very happy when her cousin said she was on her way to her apartment and would stay for two weeks. At least, Ellena could help her take her mind off that bastard Xander.
"What do you want?"
"Dirty Martini please. And some chocolate treats."
"Perfect. Are you a chocolate lover?"
"Not really. But I like the combination of martini and chocolate."
"Unique. Dexter, please bring this beautiful woman's order. And I want borboun with ice."
The bartender raised his thumb before he threw the napkin onto the table.
Angel suddenly became awkward after the bartender left to make their order. To be honest, she was a bit of an introvert and made very few friends during this time.
"Well, this might be a little awkward," Dimitri started. He didn't hide his admiration for Angel at all. Especially her cleavage which tapered sharply at her navel. The tight dress barely accommodated her breasts.
Angel could catch where Dimitri's eyes were moving. But she ignored it. She told herself over and over again that it wasn't all Dimitri's fault. She deliberately wore that dress to tease all the men in this club.
"Are you and your cousin celebrating something? You guys danced passionately."
"Actually, we are not celebrating anything. We are just having fun. My cousin just finished a photo shoot in Las Vegas. She needed to relax her tense muscles.
"So your cousin is a model?"
"Yes. She is a very talented model."
"How about you?"
"Me? Oh, my job is very boring. I'm a secretary."
"Wow, being a secretary is never boring. Is your boss a bald old man with a pot-belly and an ugly face?"
Angel chuckled dryly. She brought Xander's face to her mind and snorted. None of Dimitri's descriptions came close to Xander's figure.
"Yeah, something like that. He's a very disgusting pervert."
"Owh, are you okay working with him?"
Dimitri's question was interrupted by Dexter, who came with their order. He placed a plate of very tempting chocolate cake in front of Angel and her refreshing-looking martini. Angel couldn't wait any longer to eat the cake.
"Of course. He keeps our relationship professional. But he dated so many women out there. Some of his clients even slept with him. I'm tired of having to pretend to hide his dirty secrets from the public."
Angel shifted her body closer to Dimitri when someone took a seat next to her. She did it to prevent others from hearing her while she was badmouthing Xander.
"Are you serious? He's a disgusting old goat. Does he have a wife?"
"No. He is not married and will never be married, I think."
"Now I know the reason why he likes to tease women. He thirsts for a woman's caress. Thankfully, you are safe."
"I am indeed very lucky."
Angel sipped her martini calmly. She felt her back slightly hot. Her instincts had never been wrong so far. After finishing half her martini, she looked back to see what was happening.
"Hello, Angel. So, you think I'm a disgusting old goat, huh?"
"Xa-Xander."
Her body jerked forward and hit Xander's hard chest. Her plump breasts in the too-small dress were squeezed against his hard chest. She caught a glimpse of mischief in her boss's eyes as he stared at her breasts. Angela opened her mouth to try to say something, but nothing came out. She was too shocked to process the things that were happening around her quickly. Xander's large palm cupped her jaw, and suddenly something soft was pressed against her lips.
Her boss was kissing her! His soft lips moved over hers, sucking them gently. Xander's tongue stroked the seam of her lips slowly. Angela was lost in the kiss. She closed her eyes and her lips moved instinctively following Xander's lips.
"Did I surprise you, Angel?"
She was left gaping after Xander pulled away. Her body froze, and she was at a loss for words. She was exactly like a fish that had just been taken out of the water. Her lips opened and closed repeatedly without being able to say a word. How could the boss be there? And what was worse, Xander heard all the nonsense she said to Dimitri.
Oh God, I'm in trouble.
