The CEO's Lethal Savior: No Master Here Chapter 1

"Wake up, trash."

A bucket of freezing water smashed against Serena's face. The icy shock drove the air from her lungs. She gasped, her chest heaving against the rough fabric of her soaked shirt. Water dripped from her heavy eyelashes, blurring the dim outlines of the abandoned Brooklyn warehouse. A tearing pain radiated from the back of her skull, throbbing with every beat of her heart.

She tried to search her mind for a reason, a location, a history. Nothing came. Her brain felt like a wiped hard drive. Only two words floated in the dark void of her consciousness. Serena Vance.

She flexed her fingers. Thick, coarse hemp rope bit into the skin of her wrists, which were bound tightly behind a rusted iron chair. She instinctively contracted her forearm muscles, testing the tension. The knot was professional. Military grade.

A muffled, wet sound broke the silence. Serena turned her head, her neck joints popping. Through the moonlight filtering through the shattered skylight, she saw a small boy, no older than five. He was strapped to a similar iron chair ten feet away. Thick silver industrial duct tape covered his mouth. Tears streamed down his pale cheeks, leaving clean tracks through the warehouse grime.

A sharp cramp twisted in Serena's stomach. Her breathing hitched. She shifted her weight, trying to slide the chair closer to the boy. The rusted legs scraped against the concrete floor, tearing the skin on her bare knees.

The heavy iron door at the far end of the warehouse kicked open with a deafening screech of metal.

Vince Tucker lumbered into the room. The stench of stale beer and sour sweat rolled off him in waves. He dragged a bloodstained aluminum baseball bat along the concrete, the scraping noise sending violent shivers down the little boy's small frame.

Vince stopped at an empty steel drum and swung the bat. The explosive clang echoed through the cavernous space. The boy squeezed his eyes shut, his chest jerking with silent sobs.

Vince sauntered over to Serena. He leaned down, his foul breath washing over her face, and pinched her chin with thick, greasy fingers. "Look at this," he sneered. "Cheap smoky eyeshadow. You look like a two-dollar lot lizard from a trailer park."

Serena ignored the nausea churning in her gut. At first, a wave of profound confusion and raw, paralyzing fear washed over her. Her eyes darted wildly, trying to process the grim reality of her captivity. But as Vince leaned closer, his foul breath and derogatory words hitting her face, a strange shift occurred. The external stimulus of his aggression triggered something buried deep within her subconscious-a dormant combat instinct. In the blink of an eye, the fear in her gaze instantly cooled down, replaced by a primal, incomprehensible killing intent. It was the look a butcher gave a slab of meat.

The absolute void in her gaze triggered something ugly in Vince. His face twisted in rage. He cursed, raising his massive, tree-trunk arm, preparing to backhand her across the jaw.

In the fraction of a second before the blow landed, a terrifying muscle memory hijacked Serena's body. She twisted her right arm at an angle that defied human anatomy. A sickening pop echoed as she deliberately dislocated her own wrist joint.

The thick hemp rope instantly lost its tension and slipped down her forearms.

Vince's eyes bulged in shock. His raised arm froze in mid-air.

Serena did not give him time to process. She pushed off the iron chair with both legs, launching her body upward. She drove her forehead directly into the bridge of Vince's nose.

The sharp crunch of breaking cartilage filled the air. Blood exploded from his nostrils. Vince screamed, stumbling backward and clutching his face.

Serena dropped low, her center of gravity shifting flawlessly. She swept her right leg out in a textbook CQC tactical sweep, slamming her shin into Vince's ankle.

The massive man lost his footing entirely. He crashed onto the dust-covered concrete with a heavy thud, sending a cloud of dirt into the air.

Serena moved like a shadow. She straddled his chest, her left hand snatching the baseball bat from his loose grip. She jammed the thick aluminum barrel horizontally across his throat, pressing down on his carotid arteries with her entire body weight.

Vince's eyes rolled back. His mouth opened in a desperate, silent gasp for air. His thick hands flailed blindly, trying to claw at her face. Serena merely tilted her head, letting his fingers grasp empty air.

"Move again, and I snap your neck," she whispered. Her voice was ice.

Vince felt the lethal pressure crushing his windpipe. The fight drained out of him. He stopped thrashing, a pathetic gurgling sound escaping his throat.

Serena raised her right fist and drove it down like a piston into his temple. Vince's head snapped to the side. He went completely limp.

She tossed the baseball bat aside, stood up, and snapped her dislocated wrist back into place. Then she took a slow, deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart. Adrenaline surged through her veins, and a cold, aching pain shot through her muscles.

She turned her attention to the boy. She walked over, her footsteps silent on the concrete, making sure not to make any sudden movements.

She crouched in front of him. The coldness in her eyes melted away. She reached out and peeled the duct tape from his mouth with excruciating slowness, minimizing the pain.

The boy did not cry out. He just panted heavily, staring at her with wide, reverent eyes, as if she had descended from the sky.

Serena reached out and gently stroked his soft hair. Her fingers brushed against a cold metal object on his wrist. A high-end smartwatch. A small red light blinked on the screen.

She took his small hand. The screen displayed a single, unlocked emergency contact number. She pressed the dial icon without hesitation.
