The CEO Humiliated Me,His Biggest Client Chose Me Instead Chapter 1

New Year's Eve. I was crouched on a street corner, slurping instant noodles between client visits, when my phone buzzed with my year-end bonus notification.

$42.00. Down to the cent. The insult couldn't have been more deliberate.

Meanwhile, the company group chat exploded with gratitude.

"Thank you, boss, for the $66,000 bonus! Next year's gonna be incredible!"

"Following Mr. Whitney is the best decision I ever made—$180,000 this year! Finally upgrading my car!"

"I've only been here three months and got $8,800?! I'm never leaving this company!"

As the sycophantic chorus swelled, Marcus Whitney presided over the chat like an emperor receiving tribute, dispensing hollow pleasantries.

Then my phone rang. The whale I'd been chasing for six months.

"Donald Chavez." Victor James's voice was measured, deliberate. "I have no interest in your company. But I've been watching you—your persistence, your work ethic."

"That $42 million contract? I've decided it's yours. When can you come sign?"

I stood there in the freezing wind, noodle cup still steaming in my hand.

And I laughed.

"Mr. James, I'll sign. But you'll have to wait until I've changed companies."

——

Silence on the line after I finished explaining.

Then Victor sighed. "I've seen a lot in this industry. But a company sabotaging their own top salesperson? That's a first."

"If my operations weren't overseas, I'd poach you myself."

"Listen to me, Donald—this deal isn't going anywhere. Find your next position, and consider this contract my signing bonus to you."

Something tightened in my chest. Six months. I'd only been serving this client for six months, and he trusted me more than the company I'd bled for over five years.

Five years of my life. And on New Year's Eve, they'd handed me the deepest humiliation they could devise.

I'd barely hung up when Marcus's voice message arrived.

"Donald! Still out chasing clients?" His tone was syrup over broken glass. "Everyone's at Senhao Hotel, Room 808—you're the only one missing! Come join the fun!"

I pocketed my phone and turned toward the hotel.

The winter wind sliced across my face like a blade. The instant noodles had warmed my stomach, but nothing could touch the cold spreading through my chest.

Room 808.

I pushed open the door. A wave of heat hit me, thick with cigarette smoke and expensive liquor.

A massive round table dominated the room, laden with lobster sashimi and abalone rice. Half-empty bottles of Moutai and Wuliangye cluttered every surface.

My colleagues swarmed around the head of the table, faces stretched into obsequious grins, each voice louder than the last.

"Thank you for the red envelope, boss! Next year I'll push even harder—following you is the path to greatness!"

"Look at this—$180,000!" Someone waved their phone. "Finally getting that BMW 3 Series! You're too generous, Mr. Whitney!"

Gasps of envy rippled through the crowd.

Miranda Chavez hovered at the edge of the group, eyes glistening with rehearsed emotion. She'd been with the company all of three months.

"I never imagined... three months and I get an $8,800 bonus?" Her voice trembled perfectly. "My parents didn't believe me when I told them."

She clasped her hands together. "Mr. Whitney, you're like a second father to me. I swear I'll dedicate everything to this company!"

The flattery crescendoed. Marcus waved magnanimously, basking in the worship like a king holding court.

I stood in the doorway, watching the circus.

No one noticed me.

Not until Marcus's gaze swept past the entrance. Something flickered in his expression—like he'd just remembered an unfinished piece of business.

"Donald!" He beckoned with exaggerated warmth. "There you are! Come in, come in—we've been waiting just for you!"

The laughter died. Every head swiveled toward me.

Marcus's lackeys exchanged glances. Then one of them spoke, his voice dripping with mock concern.
