Swapping Grooms: Revenge Of The True Heiress

8.5 / 10.0
At St. Trinity Church, I was seconds from marrying Alex Rowland when he reached past me for my foster sister, Amelia, in her own wedding gown. In my last life, that humiliation was only the beginning: after I uncovered my foster family's secrets, Alex drowned me in the Atlantic, sneering that a foster girl never deserved him. My lingering soul heard the truth—I was no orphan. Kidnapped as an infant, I was a stolen heiress, kept as a pawn and killed for my identity bracelet. Now I've woken at the altar, moments before my public ruin. This time, I walk past Alex and stop before his sickly, untouchable cousin—the true billionaire heir of the Rowland family. "Mr. Rowland, will you marry me?"

Swapping Grooms: Revenge Of The True Heiress Chapter 1

The wedding march echoed through the grand arches of St. Trinity Church. Light from the stained-glass windows fell upon Cassie Rosales, standing at the altar. Her face, framed by a delicate veil, was as still as a frozen lake.

Across from her, Alex Rowland, her fiancé, wore a smile he couldn't contain. It was a smile of triumph. He believed he was moments away from securing the Beaumont family's resources, cementing his future.

Cassie's gaze didn't meet his. It drifted past him, over the sea of New York's elite, and settled on a quiet corner in the front pew.

Adrian Rowland sat there.

Alex's cousin. The true heir to the Rowland fortune. His face was pale, his posture still, as if the celebration around him was happening in another world.

A sudden, sharp memory flooded Cassie's mind.

The suffocating sensation of icy water filling her lungs. The brutal cold of the Atlantic in winter. And just before she fell, the last thing she saw was Alex's face, cold and merciless.

That was her previous life. A life ended by a murder disguised as an accident.

She remembered his words, hissed just for her. "A foster girl, you really think you can be the mistress of the Rowland house? Amelia is the one who deserves it all."

The memory sent a chill to her fingertips, but she took a slow, deep breath, forcing the emotion down.

Today was not her end.

It was theirs.

She could feel her, Amelia Beaumont, her foster sister, hidden behind a side door. Her heart was probably pounding against the silk of another wedding dress, waiting for the perfect moment to rush out.

In the crowd, her foster mother, Eleanor Beaumont, shot a subtle, reassuring glance at Alex. A signal that everything was going according to plan.

The officiant, Mr. Peterson, cleared his throat. His voice boomed with practiced solemnity.

"Now, will the groom please take the bride's hand, as you prepare to exchange your vows."

Alex, radiating victory, extended his hand.

But his target wasn't Cassie.

His hand was aimed slightly to her side, at the empty space reserved for the bride he truly wanted.

A murmur rippled through the guests. They watched, confused by the bizarre gesture.

Eleanor's lips were already curling into a smile. The door where Amelia hid creaked open a sliver.

Then, Cassie moved.

She didn't spare a glance for Alex's outstretched hand.

In front of hundreds of shocked onlookers, she lifted the hem of her gown and took a deliberate step down from the altar.

Her path was clear. She walked directly toward the pews.

Alex's smile froze on his face. He stared at her back, his eyes wide with disbelief.

Cassie stopped in front of Adrian Rowland.

He looked up. His blue eyes held a flicker of surprise, a hint of inquiry, but no panic. He simply watched her.

"Mr. Rowland," Cassie's voice was quiet, but the microphone carried it throughout the silent church. "Will you marry me?"

The room erupted.

Guests gasped, whispering frantically. Camera flashes went off like a volley of gunfire.

Alex's face turned a shade of purple. He stumbled down the steps, his voice a raw shout.

"Cassie! Are you insane?"

She ignored him completely. Her eyes were locked on Adrian. This was her move, her carefully chosen gambit. She would marry the man who held the power in the Rowland family, not the pathetic fool who craved it.

Adrian looked at her. The silence stretched, feeling like an eternity. His gaze flickered to Alex's furious face, then to Eleanor's, which had gone deathly pale.

Then, slowly, he rose to his feet.

He was taller than her, thin but with a straight, unyielding posture.

He didn't answer her question.

Instead, he extended his hand. A simple, powerful gesture.

Without hesitation, Cassie placed her hand in his large, cool palm.

Alex completely lost control. He lunged forward to grab her, but two of the Rowland family's bodyguards materialized, blocking him without a word.

Behind the door, Amelia witnessed it all. She clapped a hand over her mouth, her body trembling with disbelief. Her grand entrance had become a punchline.

Adrian led Cassie back to the altar, to the stunned Mr. Peterson.

Adrian's voice was calm and clear. "Mr. Peterson, I believe we have a wedding to continue."

The officiant stammered, his eyes darting to the Rowland family's butler in the front row. The butler gave a slight, almost imperceptible nod.

The ceremony resumed in a strange, tense atmosphere. Alex was "escorted" from the church. Eleanor looked as if she might faint.

When Adrian slid the ring onto Cassie's finger, his thumb brushed against her palm. The unexpected warmth made her flinch.

The vows were exchanged. Mr. Peterson pronounced them husband and wife.

Amidst the confused applause, Adrian lifted her veil. He leaned in, his lips brushing her ear, and spoke a single sentence, meant only for her.

"A bold move. Don't make me regret it."
