Sir, I've Given Up on Our Marriage! Chapter 1

On the day my mom passed away from a heart attack, my husband's secretary and girlfriend stormed into the funeral home with a group of people. They labeled me as a "gold digger."

She used my husband's company's livestream account to cry about her "injustices" and "grievances," garnering a large following. Under the banner of "punishing the gold digger, upholding the rightful wife," they cornered me in a dead-end of the funeral home, hurling insults and humiliation at me. They even knocked over my mom's urn.

When Adam arrived, I threw out the prenuptial agreement.

——

My husband, Adam Jenkins, was a professional General Manager at my family's company. He was also the son-in-law my mom approved of.

Young and promising, he had an unlimited future. My mom said that with him around, I wouldn't have to fight in the business world myself and she could rest in peace.

I held my mom's urn, unable to stop crying. My dearest mom was gone. My mom's passing was a significant event and as her son-in-law, Adam should have helped with the aftermath. But from my mom's passing to the cremation of her body, he was nowhere to be seen.

I called Adam. But after calling him more than a dozen times, he hung up every time. He just sent me a cold text message saying that he was in a meeting. I suppressed my grief and handled the cremation by myself.

I held my mom's urn, feeling drained of all strength. Just as I reached the door, I saw a group of people rushing toward me. They were holding a large banner that read "Punish the gold digger, uphold the rightful wife."

I recognized the leader, it was Adam's secretary, Kelly Basinger. She was holding a video camera, as if she were livestreaming. Could it be her husband was deceived by a woman outside and came out to seek justice?

I had no interaction with her, so I intended to bypass her. But the people behind her surrounded me. I frowned and squinted, "What are you doing?"

Kelly sneered, "You're asking me what I'm doing?" She turned around and looked at the crowd and said, "Everyone, tell her what I want to do."

The crowd looked unfriendly. Someone spoke up, "Are you blind? Can't you see the words on the banner?"

Of course, I saw it, but what did it have to do with me? With my mom's death and the disappearance of Adam, who was a good son-in-law and husband just a week ago, I had no mood to argue with them.

I said indifferently, "You've got the wrong person. Leave now before I call the police."

Kelly sneered, "You seduced my husband and you still dare to talk to me like this? Are all gold diggers so arrogant now?"

Then her gaze shifted to the necklace on my neck. "You say you're not a gold digger who seduced my husband, then what's that on your neck?" she asked.

My neck? It was nothing more than a necklace Adam gave me a few days ago for our wedding anniversary. At that time, Adam apologized for not spending enough time with me and hoped this necklace would make up for it.

Though I didn't want to explain, facing Kelly's aggressive questioning, I slowly opened my mouth, "This was given to me by my husband. It has nothing to do with you."

"That's nonsense! You obviously stole it!" Kelly's harsh tone displeased me.

Seeing I remained unmoved, she pulled out her phone and showed a photo. "Don't want to admit it? Everyone, this is the evidence!"

I glanced at the phone, it was a photo of Kelly wearing the necklace. Adam had told me it was a limited edition, with unique numbers on each one. Mine was lucky number six. The one in the photo looked exactly like mine.

I had a vague idea of the truth, but I still didn't want to believe my suspicions. Seeing my silence, she assumed I was admitting it and shoved the camera into my face, raising her voice a few decibels, "Everyone, this is the bitch who not only seduced my husband but also stole the necklace worth of millions that my husband prepared for me!"

"Spending another man's money and showing off, is it satisfying? How dare you wear it so brazenly!" she accused me. "That was a gift for our first anniversary. Doesn't her conscience hurt?"

First anniversary? Did she mean her and Adam? I shook my head, refusing to think about it. With my mom's ashes not yet buried, I didn't want to waste energy on anything else.

My voice grew colder, "One more time, you have the wrong person. The necklace was given to me by my husband. Now, please move aside!"
