She Looked at Her Assistant, and I Filed for Divorce Chapter 1

Lynch’s POV

At the company’s IPO launch, my wife looked at her assistant a second too long.

I walked out, canceled the urology surgery I’d booked, and told my lawyer to start drafting the divorce papers.

When Heddy saw the email, she called me in rage.

“Are you freaking serious? Just because I looked at Robbie for a second?!”

“Yeah. That’s exactly why.”

——

The live broadcast of the press conference was still running on my screen.

Heddy was all smiles, taking the mic from Robbie Tisch and seamlessly picked up where he left off.

“If not for this assistant of mine, every major project over the past ten years wouldn’t have made it through. He’s worked tirelessly—I’ve seen it all.

“And with all of you here today, I’ll take this chance to announce—I’m transferring 20% of my shares to Robbie. From now on, he’s not just my assistant, and I’m not just his boss—we’re business partners. Here’s to even greater things!”

The crowd erupted with applause and cheers.

Robbie teared up, and Heddy, still smiling, handed him a tissue.

That one look from her was all it took—I knew right then, she wasn’t mine anymore.

One single smile, and she wiped out everything I’d built over the past decade.

Like it didn’t matter to me, she gave my credit to another man.

She made the first move.

I’ve got no reason to hold back anymore.

I took out my phone. Once I canceled that damn surgery, I called the number I’d memorized years ago.

“Is that offer still on the table? I’m in. Just one condition—I take control of the company. 50% stake, minimum.”

The voice on the other end agreed with a chuckle.

“So, Mr. Lauderdale finally comes to his senses, huh? Hell, you can have 60% if you want. Just having you on board makes it worth it.

“But I’m curious. You ghosted me after college. Swore you’d never work with me. Why the change of heart now?”

“Not your business. Don’t ask stupid questions.”

I rolled my eyes, grabbed my keys, and drove straight to the law office.

Once the paperwork was printed, I headed home.

Heddy came in right behind me.

Her eyes landed straight to the dress she’d worn yesterday, still lying on the couch. She frowned.

“You didn’t do the laundry?”

She glanced toward the dining table. Her face darkened.

“And no dinner? You feeling sick or something?”

I didn’t answer, just scrolling through my phone.

Gave her a shrug. That was enough.

She handed me a takeout bag and bossed around like always.

“Then do something now. Make enough for two. I’m bringing food to the office. After the press conference, we’ve got to work overtime tonight.

“Robbie will be with me. I can’t let my staff go hungry.”

Back then, I didn’t need to be told. I handled it all quietly.

By day, I was marketing director.

By night, I was the househusband—cooking, cleaning, putting up with her princess crap.

Ten years of that.

Now? I was done.

She finished speaking. I didn’t move. I just let out a dry laugh.

“Nope. Not happening. Besides, didn’t you already eat out? And I’m not just talking about food.”

Her face looked tense.

“What the hell are you implying, Lynch?

“I work my ass off all day and still have to come home to your bullshit attitude? What, do I owe you something?

“You knew today’s our anniversary. I even brought you a gift. Can’t you stop being passive-aggressive? Try understanding how hard things are for me for once.”
