Severing The Fated Dragon Bond Forever

7.9 / 10.0
For a decade, I played the perfect Duchess of Carlisle, devoting myself to Gideon. Then one fabricated tear from his precious Haylie sent me to the dungeons, where poison revealed the truth: the tonics he fed me were contraceptives, keeping his bloodline pure for his mistress. His family mocked my barren womb and forced beast blood down my throat. When I begged for mercy, he abandoned me to die alone. But death wasn't the end. I woke at twenty, in the first year of our marriage, watching Gideon embrace Haylie in the rose garden. My heart frozen, I demanded the Rejection Ritual and calmly packed my dowry, already plotting my path to the royal palace—to save the dying Dragon King and claim a fate of my own.

Severing The Fated Dragon Bond Forever Chapter 1

Aurora's POV:

A soft, suppressed laugh drifted up from the garden below, piercing the quiet of the estate.

I stood by the window, my fingers gripping the heavy velvet curtains until my knuckles turned white. Down there, nestled among the blooming dragon's-blood roses, was Gideon Carlisle—my husband.

He wasn't alone. He was holding the petite form of his "true love," Haylie Guthrie, securely in his arms. The morning light caught the golden strands of her hair, making her look like a fragile angel seeking refuge.

"Gideon, I didn't mean to," Haylie murmured into his chest. Her voice carried easily on the breeze, a cloying mix of feigned innocence and triumph. "I never thought your wife, Lady Aurora, would misunderstand..."

Gideon's voice was a low, protective rumble, cold as the iron of his family's sigil. "She isn't worth your concern. You only need to remember that the House of Carlisle will always have a place for you."

A few yards away, a cluster of estate servants stood by with silver trays. They didn't look away in polite embarrassment. Instead, they watched the pair with fond smiles, fawning over Haylie as if she were the true mistress of the house.

Then, one of the maids glanced up and spotted me at the window. She nudged the others. Their fond smiles instantly morphed into sneers of blatant mockery. Whispers passed behind raised hands. They were laughing at me. The Duchess, a pathetic joke in her own home.

Haylie followed their gaze. Her eyes met mine through the glass. A flicker of surprise crossed her face, quickly replaced by a smirk of pure, unadulterated victory. A silent challenge.

I gasped, stumbling back from the window. My chest heaved as I struggled to pull air into my lungs. The phantom pain of the dungeon's damp cold still lingered in my bones, but the room around me was warm and lavish.

In my past life, I gave Gideon everything, only to suffer his cold neglect and ultimate betrayal. Framed by Haylie's lies, my own husband threw me into a freezing dungeon. I died alone, choking on poison and despair.

But in this life?

I stared at my trembling hands. They were smooth, young, and completely unblemished. The toxic rot that had withered my flesh was gone.

I wasn't dead. I was back.

I clenched my fists until my nails bit into my palms. The pathetic girl who begged for his love is dead. This time, I won't shed a single tear for the man who watched me die. I will take back my wealth, reclaim my identity, and walk away from this toxic marriage forever. They can have each other. I am taking back my life.

I stepped forward and yanked the heavy curtains shut, severing the disgusting scene below from my sight. The room plunged into dim, cool shadows.

"Clara," I called out, my voice steadying.

My personal maid, a Dragonless girl with kind eyes, hurried into the room. She was the only person in this imposing fortress who had ever shown me genuine warmth.

"My lady, you're pale," she said, her voice laced with worry as she rushed to my side. "Are you unwell?"

"Clara," I said, turning to face her fully. "Bring me my dowry inventory. And all the property deeds belonging to the Foley family."

Clara froze, her eyes widening in shock. A wife's dowry was managed by her husband's house after marriage. To ask for it was unheard of. It was a declaration of war.

I met her gaze, my expression unyielding. "Now. And don't let anyone see you."

She saw the unbreakable resolve in my eyes. Swallowing hard, she bowed her head. "Yes, my lady."

Alone, I sat at my vanity. The lake-green eyes in the mirror held nothing but cold resolve and a desperate hunger for freedom. I needed money, power, and an identity of my own to break free from the Carlisle name forever. I had my dowry, my mother's jewels, and the memories of a master Dragon Healer from my past life. That was my true ace in the hole.

Heavy footsteps echoed in the corridor, deliberate and commanding.

The door swung open without a knock. Gideon's tall, imposing figure filled the frame. He smelled of the dragon's-blood roses from the garden, mixed with Haylie's sickeningly sweet perfume. His own dragon's breath—a scent naturally cold like iron and winter—was tainted by her. The combination turned my stomach.

I sat calmly at the vanity, sorting through my jewelry box, categorizing the pieces by value. I didn't bother to stand and greet him.

He saw me, and his brow furrowed in that familiar, impatient way. "What are you sulking about now?"

He took a step closer. The oppressive aura of a Dragon Lord unconsciously radiated from him, a heavy pressure meant to force submission. In the past, it would have made me cower, desperate to appease his foul mood. Now, it meant absolutely nothing.

I closed the jewelry box with a sharp snap. The sound echoed loudly in the quiet room.

I lifted my head and looked directly into his deep gray eyes, finding not a single spark of warmth.

"Gideon Carlisle," I said, my voice perfectly even. "We need to talk."

The use of his full name, the cool formality, made him pause. A flicker of confusion crossed his features. If this small change unsettled him, he was in for a world of discomfort.

"I want the Rejection Ritual," I said, each word clear and sharp as a shard of ice.
