Rewritten Bride and Rewritten Curse

9.3 / 10.0
A century-old insult triggered a bizarre curse on the Gilbert bloodline: every male heir transforms into a hen upon turning thirty. The only remedy is marrying a fated Cursebreaker. In a past life, I sacrificed my own future by marrying the billionaire Sean Gilbert to protect my sister, Ruby. However, Ruby viewed my choice as a betrayal for wealth and took her own life. Now, Sean harbors a deep-seated hatred for me, blaming me for the tragic loss of the woman he truly wanted.

Rewritten Bride and Rewritten Curse Chapter 1

A century ago, the head of the powerful Gilbert family in the capital made a cruel remark:

"A woman who can't bear sons is nothing but a hen that lays no eggs."

His words provoked forces beyond his understanding, and brought a generational curse upon his bloodline.

Since then, every Gilbert man has faced the same fate: on his 30th birthday, he begins to grow feathers and wings... until he fully transforms into a clucking, egg-laying hen.

The only way to break the curse? Marry a girl born on a rare, fated date, the Cursebreaker.

Both my sister, Ruby Larson, and I were born under that date.

In my previous life, Sean Gilbert, the cursed heir to the Gilbert fortune, asked for Ruby's hand in marriage.

To protect her, I took her place and married into the Gilbert family myself.

However, Ruby thought I had betrayed her for money. She livestreamed her suicide.

Sean never forgave me. From that day on, he despised me with everything he had.

"I'm going to marry her and make her Mrs. Gilbert."

Sean Gilbert did not even blink before choosing my sister, Ruby Larson.

Ruby shot me a smug look and then, with a triumphant smile, poured Sean a cup of coffee.

Watching the two of them acting all weird, I knew they had to be like me, someone reborn with memories of another life.

Ruby, playing coy after serving the coffee, turned to our parents.

"Mom, Dad, what's all this about?"

Our mom and dad were smiling, grabbing Ruby's hand and then Sean's, hugging them close.

Seeing that lovey-dovey family moment made me want to roll my eyes out of my head.

Those two lovebirds had already made their secret vows. That whole act was just for show, but who were they trying to fool?

I could not stand those time-wasting charades and was ready to bolt.

Sean caught my eye and snapped, clearly annoyed.

"Sloane, you're not the only curse-breaker in town. Keep pestering me, and you'll regret it!

"Someone as ugly and fat as you has no place in the Gilbert family."

His parents jumped in, scolding Sean right away.

Getting an earful from his own folks only made Sean more irritable.

"It's not like she's the only girl who can lift a curse. I'd marry her when pigs fly!"

Sean's mom, Brianna Ferguson, was livid, her eyes practically glowing red with anger.

"Sean, what's gotten into you? Do you have any idea how hard we've worked to find a girl who can break your curse and is the right age for you?"

Sean's dad, Walter Gilbert, was fuming, his mustache twitching and his eyes popping. The cane in his hand pounded the floor with a thud.

"Sean, if you're not going to marry Sloane, then you can just leave the Gilbert family for good!"

Sean's face went through a whole roller coaster of emotions before he glared at me, jabbed a finger at my nose, and let loose a torrent of insults.

"She's so hideous, she's not even fit to carry my shoes!

"Mom, Dad, if you'd force me to marry someone, I'd pick Ruby over her any day. Ruby's got the curse-breaker destiny, too!"

I knew his little performance was all about getting the green light to marry Ruby.

In my previous life, I had stopped Sean from marrying Ruby.

"My sister can't lift your curse, Sean. I'm the only one who can."

That had hit a nerve, and Sean had exploded with rage.

My parents had called me manipulative, accusing me of stealing my sister's guy right out in the open.

However, the Gilberts, playing it safe, still wanted me as their daughter-in-law.

Between Ruby and me, both curse-breakers, I was the healthier one, and that had tipped the scales. So, they pushed Sean into making it official with me.

What they did not realize was that Ruby's secret would be Sean's undoing.

Her tainted curse-breaking destiny was a one-way ticket to disaster for him.

In my previous life, after my sister took her own life, I tried to spill the beans to our parents.

However, they were convinced Ruby's death was on me, and they wanted my head on a platter.

I tried to come clean to Sean, but after he got what he wanted from me, he turned around and killed me.

It was only in death that I saw the whole picture.

Sean and Ruby had been sneaking around behind everyone's back, and her suicide had nothing to do with me.

She only realized too late that the power she held to break curses was spiraling out of control, threatening to destroy everyone close to her. That was why she took her own life with poison.

Thinking back on all the moments of my previous life, I shook with fury.

The agony of being killed haunted my thoughts.

'This time around, I'm staying out of other people's messes!' I thought.

"Mr. Gilbert, don't sweat it. I'm not looking to marry you," I calmly said, nodding to everyone there before I walked away.

My parents were quick to apologize for my so-called bad manners.

"Ugh, this kid of ours has never had her head on straight, not much to look at, and always causing a scene. Just ignore her."
