Violet's POV
At this point, I'd mentally counted, and there were ten of them around me. Even if I managed to fight one with my sprained ankle that was taking forever to heal, I would still need to suffer the wrath of the remaining 9 who still remained in the shadows.
I whimpered and curled even smaller, praying to the goddess to open the ground and swallow me alone.
It was better if I ended my 24 years that way, than for my body to be found decayed days later, after being harassed.
I looked to my left and right and suddenly didn't see the eyes anymore. But the solid figure behind me remained.
Did I hallucinate the others or was the presence of this huge scarred wolf so strong that it felt like there were ten of them?
Also, why was he staring at me with a drool and not saying anything? Was it in a daze? Why did this particular wolf look so fucking familiar.
The sight of him scratched an itch in my memory that distracted me from my initial thoughts of escaping. And that brief moment of relaxation coupled with all I'd been feeling made me feel conscious of how exposed I was.
It felt like the breeze was reaching under the fur of my wolf and tingling all the nerves on the edge of my skin.
My wolf purred, relaxing under this strong gaze and urging me to do the same.
"He's scary," I shivered in my head as I urged my wolf to run. Alpha Kane was after us. But she gave me a reply that absolutely stunned me.
"Mate," she growled in warning and stepped closer, to rub off her scent on him.
"What the fuck?!" I screamed, trying to get her out of whatever daze or magic spell this wolf had cast on her. We didn't know his name, neither did we know which pack he was from. But for all I knew, he could be a rogue.
"Sister!" I pleaded with my wolf, "we need to get out of here!" The alarm bells were ringing in my head. The only one who could be our mate was the one we met 6 years ago, the one who marked me back then to save my life from the curse my mother placed on me at birth.
If we were meeting again, then things would have to go in reverse, and if we were mates like my sister (my wolf) was saying, then I would have to mark him.
Once again, that's if he wanted to be claimed or even recognize us as his mate.
But wasn't that a weird thing altogether?
I get rejected after the most fearsome alpha finds out I'm not a virgin and I'm used goods, only to run into the rogue that took my virginity years back under dangerous circumstances.
Wasn't that a little too coincidental, even for red moon night?
"I'm not a rogue," I heard a very distinct deep voice in my head, that definitely didn't belong to me, nor Sister. And that could only mean one thing which I should have expected when SHE WENT SILENT.
They were forming the mate link and now he was in my head.
"Do you want to reject me?" he asked and I found myself spellbound.
"I don't even know your name!" I defended.
"Silus!" he growled, "I'm hurt you don't remember me from back then, but I've searched everywhere for you."
"Then how did you know to find me here? Why did you hunt me?"
"Will you mark me?" he asked a second time, almost pleadingly, and I thought to discuss it with Sister, but by the time I came back from surface level consciousness and focused on my environment, I realized that my wolf had taken the bold step and was just about to sink her fangs into his neck.
We didn't even figure out which type of wolf he was yet.
Nor which pack he actually belonged to when her fangs sank into his flesh and I felt my whole mind erupt with a power that could only be coming from him.
We tuned into the same frequency immediately and that could only mean one thing, he was also an alpha, but if alpha, how could he be so submissive and wanting me to mark him at first sight.
Except what he said about looking for me for the past 6 years was real.
"At this rate, we would have sex and start popping cubs in 9 months," I thought to myself as I tried to get out of the heady feeling that was the mate pull.
The pitter patter started from a distance as rain droplets landed on leaf petals and then the forest ground.
"How about we find some shade from this rain?" Silus suggested, leading the way as I followed behind, still in wolf form until we reached a cabin so well furnished it could only belong to royalty. However, if he was living right at the edge of the border, then there had to be more than meets the eye, except the only thing I could see right now was the heat between us.
My breath caught in my throat suddenly as soon as he turned around and rubbed the rain off my brown fur.
"What's the name?" He finally asked, as we stared nose to nose.
"Violet," I replied, unable to break the gaze. "I mean your wolf's name."
"Sister. That's what I call her," I said as he rose to his full length still on all fours and came around me, sniffing every inch of me, making my body tingle with sensations and my heart thudding in my chest while I spread my legs in anticipation for what would happen next.
"We have accepted each other, do you consent to what I'm about to do?" he asked.
I nodded eagerly, but needed Sister's affirmation and I couldn't be more jealous that I wasn't feeling this in my human body. However, she's staked her claim on him for this night because she found him first.
"Yes," Sister replied with a drool like we've been in heat and waiting for this moment for hours. Like we weren't just banished with nowhere to go or call a home.
I knew where this was going, but when he wrapped his front limbs around my waist and grinded his hips on mine, my whole body trembled with need and a knowledge that this was about to be the best night of our lives.
Chapter 3
Violet's POV
If I thought getting sniffed was enough to have me feeling heady, then I clearly hadn't felt his tongue yet.
The soft warmth of his breath fanning my rear strongly contrasted the pitter patter of the rain outside and there was nothing better than feeling exposed from the back and unable to see what he was doing.
Sure it was pure torture. The wait and desire to turn around and see him, but I knew from the way his breath tingled on my flesh that he was close and teasing.
"Please make him stop the tease," I pleaded with Sister, but she seemed to be enjoying the wait even more. Wagging her tail to fan his face.
"Be patient, mate," Silus said through the mind link. Like I had a choice.
I couldn't request to go outside. That would be crazy, because one, the rain was picking up and two, I just got banished from the pack lands while my family would not hesitate to throw me in the dungeons seeing how I was no longer useful to them.
As if sensing my distraction, Silus flicked his tongue on my already sensitive opening.
Like chills in the winter, I shivered involuntarily and arched my back.
"Are you sure you're okay with this? We should rest and get you dried up," he said, but what use was that.
"There's no need to delay the inevitable," I urged, referring to the act we were about to perform.
The nicking of his fangs made my skin sore but I only craved for more. The cold made me lean into him such that when he finally poked me, it felt like a missing part of me was finally filled.
I closed my eyes and let my body enjoy it.
When I opened my eyes, it was morning already, not only that, I was back in my human form and too exhausted to walk.
A few minutes of laying in bed and trying to feel all my achy body parts passed before I finally rolled to the edge and got down.
I tried to communicate to Sister so I could shift to my wolf form to recover some energy, but she was experiencing post mating euphoria and locked me out of her mind.
With groans and the wall as support, I made my way out of the room, then picked up the scent of something delicious from a distance I soon discovered was the kitchen.
There was a buffet on the dining table and a note on the seat that read "You must be really tired. Please enjoy this to replenish your energy. I will be back after sundown - Silus" and I felt my face blushing as I held the paper to my chest with a blush on my face as I sat down to eat.
I uncovered the food and just as I was about to eat the food, I noticed the warmth was maintained with magic.
An alpha with magic? He was just like me.
This realization took me back to the time the magic I'd inherited from my grandmother went out of control.
I sighed, took in a deep breath and began to eat. With nowhere to go, my only choice was to wait for him to get back.
My mate, my savior.
But the moon goddess seemed like she wasn't going to make this easy on me.
I'd barely gone through half my breakfast when I heard the snarls surrounding the cabin.
My heart rate picked up, but I took a brave stance, holding a kitchen knife and the fire extinguisher.
"Who is there?" I asked in a small voice hoping to lower the alertness of whoever it was.
There was certainly more than one wolf, their scent unfamiliar as I peeked from the kitchen window.
"Come out and we wouldn't need to drag you."
"What do you want from me?" I shouted back to reason with them, "I'm just a guest."
But what I got in exchange was a mocking laughter.
"Who cares if you're a guest or not. We are rogues and there's only one thing we want when we smell a female." The biggest amongst them said with a growl that incited the fear in my heart.
"Besides, you're on the border of two packs. You can't possibly be a guest to both. Except you are a rogue," they snarled and started to break things on the outside.
"This would be a long day," I said to myself hoping Sister would lend me her strength as I packed up my strength and pushed open the front door.
I could face them. I was raised like a warrior.
These rogues would not destroy Silus' cabin on my watch.
"You finally came out, huh?" They snarled and licked their lips as drool dripped down their fangs onto their chin.
I gagged but couldn't look away.
It was important to lock eyes on the enemy, all 5 of them.
My father had trained me to be useful to him all my life and that included joining his soldiers in training.
By estimate, I could take on three of them. But what about the other two?
I'll need the moon goddess and an element of surprise.
"How about we talk this out as brothers and sisters. There's no need to use force," I said.
"If I had a sister, I wouldn't come for you!" The biggest amongst them said followed by hoots from the other four.
"Disgusting." I spat and flung the extinguisher in a half circle. It caught and flung one against the other.
I'd deliberately chosen the smallest looking amongst them. A rotund 5ft5.
"You bitch!" Their leader yelled and charged at me.
I stumbled backwards but gripped the knife tight, ready to swing it as soon as he came close enough.
However, he never did. Instead I opened my eyes to the sight of him getting flung back.
"Fuck. Come out here and fight us!" He groaned in pain as his two standing subordinates hurried to help him.
"What just happened?" I found myself asking as I took another look around and realized the line drawn around the perimeter of the house.
"Magic." Sister whispered and a smile spread on my face. Silus made sure I was well protected before he left.
The protective halo surrounding the house glowed at that moment, reflecting the sunlight.
"Cowards!" I spat.
It finally made sense why they demanded I came outside rather than charging in headon.
"Don't get too cocky, girl," a deeper voice said from a distance. The owner was leading a group of another set of rogues.
I gulped and took a small step back.
"This protection magic definitely has a weakness and we have the number and force to break it if it doesn't have one," the owner of this new deep voice licked the blood dripping down the cut on his chin.
"And then we will come for you," he bared his fangs and snapped his fingers as the 6 he came with stepped forward with a dangerous glint in their dull eyes.
I guess the moon goddess really had it out for me today.3.
Chapter 4
Alpha Kane's POV
Oxygen went through my lungs smoother and not a single joint in my bones ached as I stretched and got out of bed.
Things ended hectic last night. I was betrayed and double-crossed by that woman and her pack and I'd gone to bed in a sour mood thinking about the loss but also the gain.
I could get with the beta's daughter and be in charge without a fear of my position getting usurped by someone with alpha blood.
So why did I feel so revitalized?
There could only be one answer to this.
"Silus!" I called my wolf out in my head but his reply was sluggish.
This shouldn't be, but I had a secret. One I'd kept with me for 26 years, since I discovered at age four that my wolf and I were not one.
Unlike everyone else who lived with their wolves as their other half, Silus was a separate half who often raised conflict and to avoid losing my position as crown prince and eventually alpha of the pack, we came to an agreement.
I take the day, he takes the night. He has the memories from the day but he shuts me out at night.
As much as I hate to admit it, Silus is more powerful than I am.
Mischievous too.
"Silus, what did you do last night?" I called out again.
It was important that he gave me a rundown before I stepped outside. That way, I could handle any unforeseen circumstances.
He knew how important that was for our secret to remain hidden, yet he isn't responding.
That leaves me only one choice, to force him out.
It seemed to have happened in the blink of an eye, but when I opened them again, my chambers were in disarray.
An absolute mess that made me wonder if I had been attacked. However the blood on the walls negated it.
Only Silus could cause me such harm.
There was a gaping wound in my biceps which I didn't hurry to treat.
Not when he'd used some of it to write on the walls "bring her home."
The words were scraped with his claws and dripping with blood on all sides.
Cracked bleeding mirrors that he must have used to make the cut. I sighed as I looked around for any other messages he must have dropped.
On my bedstand, was a note that read "we will regret it if we lose her," but what could we possibly regret.
What's so special about 'her'?
She was nothing but used goods, and Silus was heavy on loyalty. So what had she done to drive him so mad for her?
I needed answers. Answers my wolf either wouldn't give or didn't know. Which left me with one option.
I needed to find Violet. She was the key.
But before that, there was a council to attend to.
Inside the council room.
"Congratulations on consummating the union. Shall we proceed to prepare for the official ceremony?"
"I'm afraid we will have to postpone that indefinitely," I announced as I sat on the throne.
The room chilled for a moment that all I could hear was the silence. A countdown from three later and it erupted in noise.
"What?"
"Why?"
"Was she not worth it?"
"Will there be a war?" Several questions based on curiosity all trying to make a selfish gain out of this.
"There won't be a war because my Luna ran off." It felt off describing her as the Luna when I'd clearly rejected her last night, but they didn't need to know that.
This however brought some peace to Silus and for now, that was all that mattered.
"That's betrayal, we should send guards to find them. I will immediately alert the border guards!" The Chief guard swore as he jumped to his feet.
"Make sure she is brought back unharmed." I said.
"But...," he paused, "but she broke your trust. She should be punished."
I sucked in a deep breath as my grip on the throne became stronger. "Let me," I exhaled, "be the judge of that!"
"Yes Alpha Kane," he bowed before leaving.
"Now that's too bad, but we can always see it as a sign from the heavens. Maybe the moon goddess wanted you to find someone from the Pack as your Luna?" My father's beta tutted and the members of the council on his side nodded and murmured in support.
Those members being more than half of them.
A few hours into the meeting, having pacified the elders, my ears pricked and my heart skipped a beat.
Thudding with unattended rhythm.
"Any news from the borders?" I asked aloud, knowing fully well that we were at peace with all neighboring packs.
They stilled in a moment of silence before I was given a briefing from the head of the border guards.
In conclusion, all was well and there were no signs of suspicious activities.
Yet the hair on my skin stood on end, chilled and reacted to every little breeze that came in through the window.
My sensitivity stretched for hours as the meeting dragged on into the night. Then Silus' restlessness took over.
The fangs slipping out and constantly finding myself staring at the door after spacing out.
Trouble.
This level of alertness was reserved for troubling situations but there had been no reports from the border so far.
What could it be?
As soon as the meeting ended with an adjournment, I sprinted through the halls and out of the palace.
The sense of emergency urging me to go was so strong I let Silus take full form.
The foreboding sense of danger didn't wane for once. If anything it got deeper.
Although the border guards had reported no casualties or anything to be worried about, I couldn't be sure until I found out for myself.
This feeling of being in danger... my guts never lied.
The closer I got to the border, the thicker the stench of blood. So thick it made me heady and dizzy.
"Guards?" I called out first but was rewarded by silence. Not even the cicadas cried.
"Violet?" I called out again, expecting the same silence, however I paused for a response. In the woods, the echoes of a scream reached my ears.
"Let go!" That distant voice belonged to none other than the insufferable woman I bedded last night.
My blood roared as I sprinted in her direction. "I gave my instructions to bring her back unharmed. Who dared to hurt what's mine?!"
