My Alpha Planned My Ruin for His Mistress Chapter 1

The bond broke at exactly 10:47 PM, three minutes into Dominick's devotion address.

I felt it before I understood it—a wrongness pulsing through the mate bond like a second heartbeat layered over mine, elevated and strange. I stood beside him on the ceremony platform in my silver gown, smiling for the two hundred Ironveil Pack members filling the hall below. Candles flickered on every table. The air smelled of pine garland and roasted meat. Dominick's voice rolled warm and steady through his speech about loyalty, partnership, the Moon Goddess's blessing on our bond.

His hand found mine. Squeezed.

Through the bond I felt his pulse spike.

He turned to kiss my cheek for the audience—traditional, expected—and leaned close. His lips brushed my skin. I inhaled.

Jasmine. Tuberose. Heavy, deliberate, fresh.

Victoria Coleman's scent.

Not faint. Not residual from a polite greeting hours ago. Layered. On his collar. His jaw. The warm skin of his throat where my nose grazed as he pulled back, still smiling.

My wolf slammed against my consciousness.

She had been dormant for months—quiet, distant, the way she'd learned to be after my first rejection. Now she surged forward with a guttural warning growl that only I could hear, rattling my ribcage from the inside.

I smiled wider. Let my thumb find the mark on my neck—Dominick's mark, two years old, the place where he'd bitten down and made me his Luna. I pressed it. Not from sentiment. From the same reflex that makes you probe a wound to see if it still hurts.

It did.

Dominick finished his address to applause. The pack rose. He guided me down the platform steps with his hand on my lower back, the perfect image of the devoted Alpha. I felt his heartbeat through the bond, still wrong, still elevated.

I felt something else too.

Desire.

Not for me.

I had felt this flicker before—phantom aches over the past months that I'd told myself were my own insecurity, my damaged instincts from being rejected once already. I'd swallowed them. Apologized to myself for doubting him.

I had been wrong to swallow them.

Elder Marcus intercepted Dominick at the base of the platform, pulling him toward the elders' table for the ceremonial toast. Dominick glanced back at me, squeezed my hand once more, mouthed *two minutes*.

I nodded. Watched him go.

Then I turned and followed Victoria's scent.

It trailed through the side corridor like breadcrumbs—jasmine clinging to the air, tuberose soaking into the carpet runner. Not toward the guest wing. Toward the private family hall.

Toward Dominick's study.

My wolf paced. I kept my face neutral, my steps unhurried. Two pack members passed me in the hall, nodded respectfully. "Beautiful ceremony, Luna." I smiled. Thanked them. Kept walking.

The study door was unlocked.

I stepped inside and closed it behind me. The room smelled like him—leather, cedar, old books. And underneath, soaked into the chair cushion, the desk edge: Victoria's scent, hours old but unmistakable.

She had been here. Today. Before the ceremony.

I crossed to the desk. Dominick kept his correspondence in the second drawer, the one with the false bottom he thought I didn't know about. I'd found it six months ago while looking for pack financial records he'd asked me to file. I'd never opened it.

I opened it now.

The letters were handwritten. Neat, careful script on cream stationery. Victoria's.

I read the first one standing perfectly still.

*Dominick—The rogue is secured. Your Beta confirmed the holding cell lock. He'll follow the Alpha-tone command exactly as you outlined. 10:30 PM, back room off the main hall, during the intermission when Alicia goes to retrieve the ceremonial chalice. The staff member is briefed. She'll direct her.*

My hands did not shake. Not yet.

I read the second letter.

*The rejection vow is drafted. I've included the formal pack-law phrasing. You'll speak it before the witnesses you've selected—your mother, your Beta, the Gamma, and the three elders who've already agreed this is necessary for Ironveil's future. Once the bond is severed and Alicia is exiled, the Luna ceremony for me can proceed within the week. Zen will be presented as your heir at the next full moon.*

I photographed every page. My phone's camera shutter clicked soft and steady in the silent room. Six letters total. The plan in clinical detail. The exact timeline. The language of his public rejection. Her installation. Her son's claim.

I replaced everything exactly as I'd found it. Closed the drawer. Straightened.

My wolf was no longer pacing.

She was waiting.

I walked back to the ceremony hall. The intermission had just been announced. Pack members rose from their tables, heading toward the refreshment stations. A young staff member—blonde, nervous—approached me with a tight smile.

"Luna, the ceremonial chalice needs to be retrieved from the back room. Alpha Dominick asked if you'd handle it personally. It's... pack tradition."

Her voice wavered on the last two words.

I looked at her. She wouldn't meet my eyes.

"Of course," I said. "Where?"

She pointed toward a narrow hallway off the main hall's east side. "Third door on the left. It's unlocked."

I thanked her. She fled.

I walked down the hallway. My dress whispered against the floor. The corridor was empty, quiet. The third door had no window.

I tested the handle. It turned.

I stepped inside.

The rogue hit me from the left.

He was fast—too fast for someone who should have been weak from captivity. His hand clamped over my mouth. His other arm locked around my waist, dragging me backward toward the far wall. He smelled like fear and dirt and the faint chemical edge of wolfsbane poisoning.

I didn't scream.

I drove my elbow into his ribs. He grunted. His grip loosened for half a second. I twisted, reached into the concealed pocket I'd sewn into my dress lining six months ago—the pocket Dominick had never noticed—and pulled out the small vial of silver-laced pepper spray.

I sprayed him directly in the face.

He shrieked. Stumbled back, clawing at his eyes. I kicked his knee. He dropped. I followed him down, driving my knee into his throat as he hit the floor, pinning him.

He gasped. Choked.

I pulled out my phone. Hit record.

"Who sent you?"

He coughed. Tried to turn his head. I pressed harder.

"Who. Sent. You."

"Alpha—" His voice cracked. "Alpha Dominick Boyd."

"Why?"

"He commanded me. Alpha tone. Said—said if I did this, he'd free me from the holding cell. Let me go."

"What were you supposed to do?"

He closed his eyes. Blood-tinged tears from the spray ran down his temples.

"Assault you. Make it look like—like you mated with a rogue. So he could reject you. In front of witnesses."

I pressed stop.

My hands shook.

I allowed them exactly five seconds.

Then I stood, stepped over him, and walked to the door.

Footsteps echoed in the hallway outside. Multiple people. Moving fast.

I smoothed my dress. Checked my hair in the dark window's reflection.

The door burst open.

Dominick stood in the doorway, his Beta and his mother behind him, three elders crowding the hall. A dozen pack members gathering, drawn by the noise.

They had come to find me disgraced.

Instead, I stood in the center of the room, untouched, my silver dress unripped.

The rogue lay bound and gasping on the floor behind me.

I met Dominick's eyes.

"We need to talk," I said.

His face went white.
