Ch 10
The next morning at seven o'clock, Promise Nelson walked out of her room with dark circles under her eyes.
She hadn't slept a wink all night, tossing and turning in bed. Sometimes she wondered what her dad was hiding from her, and other times she worried that someone might sneak in while she was asleep. It left her utterly exhausted.
"Hey, when did a female panda move in?" Campbell Watson, dressed in workout clothes, teased as he entered through the front door and noticed her dark circles.
Promise's face remained cold. She didn't even glance at Campbell, treating him as if he didn't exist. She walked straight to the shoe cabinet and pulled out a pair of burgundy high heels.
Campbell, unfazed by her cold shoulder, handed her a plastic bag. "I got you some soy milk and samosas from the corner."
He had run a few laps around the Sandalwood Palace Villa area that morning, familiarizing himself with the surroundings and terrain. As a bodyguard, knowing the environment was crucial for quick reactions and preventive measures in case of emergencies.
He had bought the soy milk and samosas from a stall just outside the east gate of the complex. The food looked clean and tasted good, so he thought he'd get some for Promise as well.
But unfortunately, his good intentions were destined to be wasted.
Promise glanced at the bag coldly. "I never eat junk food from street vendors. Also, could you move? You're in my way."
"..."
This woman, if she didn't want it, she could just say so. What's wrong with street food?
It's still food, isn't it?
And what did he mean by "in the way"? Was he a dog or something?
"If you don't want it, fine... I haven't had enough anyway," Campbell Watson said, annoyed, as he pulled his hand back. "Wait a minute, I'll change my clothes and take you to the office."
"No need," Promise Nelson replied coldly as she slipped on her flat casual shoes at the entrance. She picked up her high heels and started walking out.
"Hey, don't forget, I'm your personal bodyguard. Taking you to the office is part of my job," Campbell said, placing the breakfast on the shoe cabinet before heading to the utility room to change. As they brushed past each other, their arms accidentally touched.
Promise frowned, a hint of disgust flashing in her eyes. She didn't wait for Campbell and walked straight out of the villa.
In the yard, a burgundy Porsche was parked. The airport had sent her car back last night at seven.
Promise opened her red Gucci handbag and rummaged through it for a while but couldn't find the car keys.
"Where are the keys? I clearly put them in my bag last night. How could they be missing?" Promise found it strange. She placed her bag and shoes on the car's hood and continued searching meticulously.
In the utility room, Campbell quickly changed into a simple casual outfit. He picked up the car keys from the bed, a mischievous smile playing on his lips, and strode out.
As he passed by the gate, he grabbed some breakfast on the way.
Beep beep...
Promise Nelson nearly emptied her entire bag, searching through it several times, but she still couldn't find her car keys.
She distinctly remembered putting the keys in her bag last night. How could they be missing?
Just as she was at her wit's end, the Porsche suddenly beeped twice.
Promise froze in her tracks.
She hadn't found her keys yet, so how did the car unlock?
"Hey beautiful, hop in. I'll give you a ride to work."
In her stunned gaze, Campbell Watson casually strolled over, opened the passenger door, and gestured for her to get in.
Dangling from his fingers was none other than the Porsche's key.
He knew Promise wouldn't wait for him, so he had taken the keys from her bag as they passed each other.
"You... I can't believe you're a thief!"
After searching for so long, it turned out this jerk had taken her keys. Furious, Promise glared at Campbell and demanded coldly, "Give me back my keys."
"Okay, here you go."
Seeing that Promise seemed genuinely upset, Campbell shrugged and tossed the keys back to her, then climbed into the passenger seat himself.
"Who told you to get in the car? Get out right now."
Promise Nelson was on the verge of losing her mind. This guy was way too presumptuous. He acted more like a boss than a bodyguard.
"Hey, did you hear me? Get out of the car now."
Seeing that he was ignoring her, Promise's tone became sharper and more authoritative.
Campbell Watson raised an eyebrow, his good mood instantly soured.
From the moment they met, this woman hadn't shown him a single kind expression. Did she really think he had no temper?
Even bodyguards have their dignity.
With a dark expression, Campbell climbed out of the car, and without a word, he pressed Promise against the hood.
Her shapely hips were raised high.
Smack!
Before Promise could react, Campbell slapped her hard on the butt, causing her to shudder.
"Ugh..."
The tingling sensation from her buttocks filled Promise with both shame and fury.
"You bastard, let go of me!"
Promise's face turned crimson, and her eyes, misty with anger, glared at him as she shouted.
She had never even held hands with a man before, let alone experienced such an intimate touch on her private area. She felt deeply violated and humiliated.
"Not bad, quite bouncy," Campbell Watson muttered under his breath. Ignoring the furious Promise Nelson, he gave another firm slap and said sternly, "Remember, girl, if you ever talk to me like that again, I'll spank you in front of the whole company."
He gave her another hard slap on her firm backside before reluctantly letting go.
Promise shot up, her anger boiling over, and slapped Campbell across the face.
Campbell grabbed her wrist, his expression darkening. "Looks like the lesson wasn't enough."
Before she could react, Campbell pulled her slightly, causing Promise to spin half a turn and end up bent over the car hood in a humiliating position once more.
Smack! Smack! Smack!
Campbell delivered three quick slaps.
"Got it now, girl?"
Promise bit her lip hard, staying silent, her eyes filled with tears of rage and humiliation. No one had ever dared treat her like this. She vowed to have her father fire this jerk and make him pay dearly.
Seeing her silence, Campbell assumed she had given in. He released her and said with a smug smile, "That's better. Behave yourself, and we'll get through these three months just fine. After that, we can go our separate ways, OK?"
Promise stood up straight, her face icy, and adjusted her clothes. She shot Campbell a cold glare before getting into her Porsche without a word.
Campbell, still feeling smug, sniffed his hand, savoring the lingering scent, and smiled. He got into the car, buckled his seatbelt, and started eating his breakfast, completely unfazed.
The car was filled with a greasy smell.
Promise Nelson frowned, her face showing disgust. She instinctively wanted to scold, but swallowed her words.
She rolled down the window before starting the car.
Campbell Watson smacked his lips and quickly finished his breakfast, letting out a loud burp. He casually picked up a nearby bottle of water and rinsed his mouth.
"Hey, I drank from that bottle," Promise said, her expression changing. She finally couldn't hold back.
Burp!
Campbell let out another satisfied burp, placing the water bottle back. He smiled and said, "No worries, I don't mind sharing with you."
"..."
Promise silently picked up the water bottle and threw it out the window.
For the rest of the drive, she didn't say another word, her face cold and eyes fixed straight ahead, pretending Campbell wasn't there.
Campbell was happy to enjoy the quiet, leaning back in the leather seat with his eyes closed.
.....
SkyRise Corporation had a grand 23-story office building on Changting Street in the Huanglong District. The building housed the company's various departments and subsidiaries.
Promise parked her Porsche in her designated spot in the underground garage and changed into high heels. Campbell stood nearby, taking in the layout of the garage.
As a bodyguard, being constantly aware of your surroundings is crucial for ensuring you can react swiftly to any sudden incidents.
It was 7:32 in the morning, and work started at 9:00. At this time, apart from the night-shift security guards, there was no one else in the building.
Promise Nelson, the CEO of the company, was almost always the first to arrive and the last to leave. She was a classic workaholic.
Taking the exclusive elevator straight to the 23rd floor, Promise had her own domain, which included four areas: an office area, a relaxation area, a gym, and a meeting area.
Stepping out of the elevator, her office area was immediately to the right.
Usually, the first thing Promise did upon arriving at the office was to exercise for half an hour in the gym. But today, she went straight into her office area.
She had wasted an entire afternoon yesterday, leaving a pile of unfinished documents that needed to be dealt with before the other employees arrived to avoid delaying the workflow.
The office area was nearly 2,000 square feet, divided into two parts. The outer part was the secretary's office, and the inner part, about 1,000 square feet, belonged to Promise.
Promise walked into her office, placed her handbag down, brewed a cup of fragrant tea, and sat down to tackle the mountain of documents on her desk.
"I prefer to work alone. You can go and familiarize yourself with the surroundings," she said, noticing the presence of another person in the office, which was distracting her.
Campbell Watson, her bodyguard, also felt bored. He nodded and said, "Call me if you need anything," before stepping out.
Promise took a moment to gather her thoughts and then began to go through the documents.
Promise Nelson carefully reviewed each document, approving some and rejecting others, adding her comments where necessary.
As time ticked by, the stack of pending documents on her desk grew smaller and smaller...
Promise rubbed her slightly strained eyes and glanced at her watch. It was already 8:55, and only one document remained on her desk.
This was the personnel appointment and dismissal document from the Security Department.
All personnel decisions for the company's management had to be approved by the president to prevent nepotism.
The former head of the Security Department had resigned two weeks ago, and the position was temporarily filled by the deputy head, Dawson. Given Dawson's outstanding abilities, the HR department decided to promote him officially.
Promise glanced over Dawson's resume. A retired special forces soldier from the Southwestern Military District, he was highly skilled in combat and firearms, with over five years of security experience. He had been diligent and responsible during his tenure, making him well-suited for the head position.
Just as Promise was about to approve the promotion, a thought suddenly flashed through her mind.
Knock, knock, knock...
At that moment, there was a gentle knock on the door.
"Come in," Promise Nelson called out as she closed the file in front of her. A slim woman in a black business suit, wearing frameless glasses, pushed the door open and walked in.
"Good morning, Miss Promise," the woman greeted.
This woman was Promise's secretary, Layla, a graduate from a prestigious local university. During her internship, she caught Promise's eye and was directly appointed as the president's secretary.
Layla was exceptionally capable and had been working with Promise for three years, handling all affairs meticulously and earning Promise's deep trust. The two had a close personal relationship and referred to each other as sisters in private.
"Good morning to you too. These documents are all sorted. Please deliver them to the department heads..." Promise began.
Bang!
Before she could finish her sentence, the office's mahogany door was forcefully flung open.
Being interrupted mid-sentence made Promise a bit annoyed. She was about to scold the intruder when she looked up and saw Campbell Watson walking in with two plastic bags.
"Ta-da! Your love-filled breakfast has arrived!" Campbell announced dramatically as he entered.
He had just finished touring the top floor and took a stroll around the building, observing the surroundings. On his way back, he picked up breakfast from a nearby diner.
"..." Layla turned her head to stare at Campbell, her face showing a mix of surprise and confusion.
This guy called Miss Promise "little lady"? And he bought her a heart-shaped breakfast?
Who is this guy? Could he be Miss Promise's boyfriend?
When did Miss Promise start dating?
As Miss Promise's personal secretary, Layla hadn't received any information about this.
The secrecy was impressive.
"Ahem, Layla, this is the bodyguard my dad hired for me. If he needs anything, he can come directly to me without an appointment."
Promise Nelson, being incredibly smart, saw Layla's expression and guessed what she was thinking. So, she introduced Campbell Watson's identity.
"Oh, okay, got it." Layla stuck out her tongue slightly, realizing she was being too nosy.
So, he was just a bodyguard.
But this bodyguard was quite odd, calling Miss Promise "little lady," and Miss Promise wasn't even mad.
Layla's mind was filled with a big question mark.
"Oh wow, there's a beauty here..." Campbell Watson noticed Layla, and his eyes lit up like a wolf spotting a sheep.
Though Layla wasn't as stunning as Promise Nelson, she had her own unique charm. Her features were well-defined, with a hint of mixed heritage, somewhat resembling a certain famous actress.
She had a well-proportioned figure, not too thin or too heavy, and was tall, reaching over 5'7" in heels. Her long legs were wrapped in black stockings, exuding a captivating allure. She was indeed a rare beauty...
"Hi there, beautiful. My name is Campbell Watson. It's a pleasure to meet you."
Campbell quickly stepped forward, casually tossing the plastic bag onto Promise's desk. He then put on a gentlemanly demeanor, slightly leaning forward and flashing what he thought was a charming smile.
"Uh, hi... ah..."
Campbell Watson, exuding a strong masculine presence, suddenly leaned in close to Layla, startling her out of her daydream. She instinctively stepped back, trying to maintain a safe distance.
In her panic, Layla's heel twisted, causing her to stumble and fall backward.
Terrified, Layla's face turned pale as she let out a scream, her hands flailing wildly in the air, trying to steady herself.
"Careful."
Campbell's quick reflexes allowed him to grab her delicate hand with his left hand and pull her into his arms like a bird returning to its nest.
"Beautiful, you haven't told me your name yet."
With a mischievous grin, Campbell held Layla by the waist, leaned in closer, and took a deep sniff, his expression playful. "Mmm, you smell amazing."
Layla's face turned beet red from Campbell's intimate actions, her heart racing.
She had always been focused on her studies, a typical overachiever who had never dated during her school years. After graduating from college, she started working for Promise Nelson, handling a massive workload daily, leaving no time for romance.
Moreover, she had never found a guy she liked.
Despite her outstanding work abilities, she was completely inexperienced in matters of the heart, a pure and innocent girl who couldn't handle Campbell's flirtatious advances.
"Hey, she's my secretary. Let her go."
The scene seemed to trigger something in Promise Nelson, reminding her of an unpleasant experience from that morning.
Her tone turned stern as she shouted.
"Ah!"
Layla snapped back to reality, like a startled rabbit. She quickly pushed Campbell Watson away, grabbed the files on the table, and said to President Nelson, "I'm heading out." Then she hurriedly ran out of the office.
Even after leaving the office, her heart was still pounding, her face flushed, and she had a shy, girlish expression on her face.
Campbell Watson was actually quite handsome, with chiseled features and a strong, attractive face. His years of experience had given him an indescribable yet deadly charm.
For someone like Layla, who lived in a big city and often saw pretty boys, nerds, and effeminate men, Campbell's unique presence was incredibly striking.
"Starting today, I officially appoint you as the head of the company's security department. Report there later," Promise Nelson said.
Campbell was about to go find Layla to chat, but Promise stopped him.
"Not interested. My job is to protect you," Campbell replied without hesitation.
Promise's eyebrows furrowed, and she said in a serious tone, "I suspect someone in the company leaked my whereabouts for yesterday's kidnapping. Find out who it is.
That's part of your job, right?"
Only a few senior managers knew about her trip to the airport yesterday. Yet, the kidnappers had precise information about her movements, making Promise suspect that someone within the company was in contact with them.
Campbell smirked, thinking to himself that it was probably her cousin.
"What kind of expression is that? You're my bodyguard. It's your responsibility to protect me. This mole poses a potential threat to me, and it's your duty to find out who it is," Promise said, leaning forward slightly, exuding a powerful sense of authority.
If it were any other employee in the company, they would undoubtedly be intimidated by Promise's presence. But Campbell was different. He had been through countless life-and-death battles, and this kind of pressure didn't faze him at all.
"I don't need the title of Head of Security to help you find the mole," Campbell Watson said with a half-smile, looking at Promise Nelson.
Promise frowned, staring at Campbell for a moment. She knew her little scheme had been seen through. She had asked Campbell to join the security department, partly to find the mole, but she had other motives as well. In truth, if she had found a suitable candidate, she wouldn't have resorted to putting Campbell in such an important position. After all, she didn't know him very well yet.
"Okay, I'll be straight with you. Recently, several confidential documents have been leaked within the company, causing significant losses. I want you to join the security department and help me investigate where the leak is coming from and why it's happening!" Promise decided to be direct.
"You suspect the problem is within the security department?" Campbell asked.
Promise nodded, her face serious. "Before you, I secretly placed someone in the security department to investigate this matter thoroughly. However, within a month, he was ambushed and crippled."
"I believe this could very well be the work of someone within the security department. I need you to help me get to the bottom of it," Promise said, her eyes sharp as she stared at Campbell. "If there are traitors within the company, I won't let a single one go."
At that moment, Promise exuded the decisive and commanding aura of a leader.
Campbell thought for a moment and then said, "I can agree to that, but I have one condition."
"Name it."
"If I uncover the truth, I want a commission of three million," Campbell stated his price.
This task went beyond the scope of a bodyguard's duties, and he wanted to be compensated accordingly.
"Alright, you have one month. If you find out who the mole is within a month, I'll pay you three million. If you fail, you won't get a single cent, and you'll have to get lost and never show your face in front of me again.
OK?"
Promise Nelson was straightforward, not only agreeing to Campbell Watson's terms but also setting her own condition.
Three million was nothing to her.
If she could indeed identify the mole, it would save the company millions, if not billions. Three million was a small price to pay.
"Deal," Campbell said without hesitation.
Finding a few moles was a piece of cake for him; he didn't even need a month.
However, since Promise had suggested he take over as head of security, he had another idea in mind.
He had returned to the country not only to protect Promise but also to handle something very important to him.
Therefore, he couldn't be by Promise's side 24/7.
Since Promise spent most of her time at the company, if he controlled the security department, he could select and train a few good personnel to ensure her safety at the company.
This way, he would have time to take care of his own matters.
"Layla, come in for a moment," Promise called out.
She was decisive and acted immediately once she made up her mind.
Soon, Layla walked in, her cheeks still slightly flushed, looking quite charming.
"President Nelson," Layla stood in front of the desk, waiting for Promise's instructions.
"Layla, from now on, he will be the head of the Security Department," Promise Nelson said, glancing at Campbell Watson and handing over a document. "This is his appointment letter. Take him to the Security Department and call Iker from HR, okay?"
"Got it, President Nelson. Anything else?" Layla asked with a smile as she took the document.
"That's all. You can go now." Promise Nelson waved her off and turned to her computer to start working.
Layla, holding the document, gave Campbell a quick glance before gracefully leaving the office.
"I got you some breakfast. Eat it while it's hot, don't let yourself go hungry," Campbell said, pointing to a plastic bag on the table before following Layla out.
Promise Nelson looked at the breakfast on the table. The cold expression on her face softened slightly. After a moment of hesitation, she opened the bag...
SkyRise Corporation's security team is divided into internal and external security, totaling over seventy personnel responsible for the company's overall safety.
The external security team, consisting of about forty members, is made up of robust individuals who handle patrols, gatekeeping, fire prevention, and monitoring. Their pay and benefits are slightly higher than those of regular security guards.
The internal security team, however, is composed of retired special forces, martial arts experts, and elite fighters, boasting significant combat skills. They are further classified into top-tier, senior, intermediate, and junior levels, with varying salaries and benefits.
Even the junior-level internal security personnel earn more than typical white-collar workers, making them the envy of many guards.
As the only top-tier internal security officer and acting head of the security department at SkyRise Corporation, Dawson was beaming with joy. The HR manager had just brought him some good news: the official appointment letter for the head of the security department was on its way, meaning he would soon shed the "acting" title.
"Congratulations, Dawson! Once the president's appointment letter arrives, you'll be the head of the security department," said Iker, the HR manager, his chubby face beaming with smiles.
Layla had just called Iker, asking him to join her in the security department to announce the new head's appointment letter.
Typically, personnel appointments are communicated via internal emails. However, for high-level changes, a grand ceremony is held, attended by department heads and branch managers.
Although the head of the security department is considered a managerial position and doesn't warrant a large-scale ceremony, a simple internal ceremony within the security department was deemed necessary to add a touch of formality.
As the HR manager, Iker was the natural choice to host this ceremony.
He arrived early at the security department to inform Dawson to prepare and gather the security team.
Dawson was, of course, delighted. This was a significant moment for him, and naturally, he hoped for some recognition to satisfy his vanity.
"...Iker, you're just joking. It's not set in stone yet," Dawson said modestly, even though he was ecstatic inside.
"Isn't it a done deal? In the entire security department, who else but Vice Minister Dawson has the qualifications? Vice Minister Dawson, you must treat us!" Iker, ever the charmer, quickly closed the gap between himself and Dawson.
Having more friends means more opportunities, right? Who knows when you might need a favor?
Dawson laughed heartily and said with great enthusiasm, "Whether I get the position or not, Iker, you are my friend for sure. Tonight at Sugar Bar, don't miss it. And all of you, come after work. It's my treat."
The other security team members waiting for the minister's appointment cheered and congratulated Dawson.
Regardless of their true feelings, they knew they had to show courtesy and offer congratulations. After all, Dawson would soon be their direct superior.
Of course, there were a few straightforward and honest security members who didn't understand these social niceties. They stood awkwardly on the side, not knowing what to say.
As Dawson responded to everyone's compliments, he kept glancing toward the elevator.
He was getting impatient.
After all the effort to oust the previous minister, the official appointment was finally here.
SkyRise Corporation was a top-tier company both domestically and internationally.
Becoming part of the management team was a dream come true for many.
It wasn't just about the salary and benefits; it was a symbol of status and prestige.
Ding.
At that moment, the president's exclusive elevator stopped on the tenth floor.
Dawson's eyes lit up, and he immediately jogged over.
Iker followed closely behind.
The other security guards instinctively stood up straight, full of energy and spirit.
This was the ceremony for appointing their new department head, so they naturally wanted to make a good impression.
Layla, the CEO's secretary, walked in front, followed by a nonchalant-looking Campbell Watson.
Layla often conveyed the CEO's orders and frequently visited various departments and branches. Dawson had interacted with her a few times and was somewhat familiar with her.
But who was the young man following behind Miss Layla?
Dawson glanced at Campbell with curiosity before turning his attention back to Layla, greeting her warmly, "Miss Layla, on behalf of the Security Department, welcome."
"Miss Layla," Iker also greeted with a smile, his small eyes briefly scanning Campbell.
Layla nodded and smiled in response, handing a document to Iker. "Iker, this is the appointment letter for the new department head. I'll leave the rest to you."
"Alright, no problem."
Iker took the document, his chubby face beaming with a smile. He opened the document and gave Dawson a knowing look.
Dawson, full of joy, straightened his suit and bow tie, ready to receive the appointment.
From today onwards, he would officially be the head of the Security Department.
As they spoke, the group returned to the main hall, standing in front of the eagerly awaiting security team.
"Ahem..." Iker cleared his throat, looking around with a serious expression.
"Everyone, I am the manager of the HR department. I am here to announce the appointment of the new head of the Security Department on behalf of the company."
"I hereby announce that the position of head of the Security Department will be held by... by..."
Iker suddenly froze mid-sentence, his eyes widening as he stared at the unfamiliar name on the appointment letter. He was stunned.
Dawson, who was ready to receive applause and cheers, turned to look at Iker, frowning and suppressing his annoyance. "Iker, what's going on?"
"This..."
Iker glanced back at Dawson, his expression awkward and unsure of how to respond. He then looked at Layla, his eyes filled with confusion.
Layla understood what Iker was thinking. She nodded slightly, indicating that there was no mistake in the appointment letter.
Iker took a deep breath and continued, "The position of head of the Security Department will be taken over by Campbell Watson. Let's welcome our new director."
After making the announcement, Iker stepped aside slightly, revealing Campbell Watson to everyone and clapping his hands a couple of times.
The only applause came from Iker and Layla, making the room feel rather empty.
The security team, along with Dawson, all had bewildered expressions, staring blankly at Iker.
Did they hear wrong, or did Iker read it wrong?
Where did this Campbell Watson come from?
Seeing no one else clapping, Iker awkwardly laughed a few times, lowered his hands, and turned to Campbell. "Director Campbell, would you like to say a few words?"
Campbell Watson nodded and stepped in front of the security team, looking around with a smile. "Hello everyone, I'm Campbell Watson. From now on..."
"Miss Layla, can I ask what's going on here?"
Campbell was rudely interrupted by Dawson.
Perhaps because he was upset about losing the department head position, Dawson's tone was less than friendly, carrying a hint of accusation.
Campbell's eyebrows twitched, a flash of annoyance crossing his eyes, but he quickly composed himself.
Layla frowned slightly, displeased with Dawson's attitude, but she patiently explained, "This is the president's decision.
If Vice Minister Dawson has any questions, you can take them up with the president."
Dawson fell silent immediately.
No way was he going to confront the president directly, even if he had issues with the appointment. SkyRise Corporation's benefits and compensation were top-notch in all of East Sea City; he wasn't about to risk losing that.
"Vice Minister Dawson, if there are no further questions, I'll be on my way."
Layla glanced at Dawson before striding out of the security department, her high heels clicking on the floor, leaving behind a graceful silhouette.
Wow, impressive. Appointed directly by the president.
Iker smacked his lips in admiration, his gaze toward Campbell growing increasingly fervent.
Campbell felt a shiver run down his spine under Iker's intense stare, wondering if the chubby guy was, well, into men. The thought made him shudder.
"Director Campbell, since you're new here, you probably have a lot to sort out. I won't keep you any longer. When you have some time, please come by the HR department, and I'll help you complete your onboarding paperwork."
Iker smiled warmly, showing great enthusiasm towards Campbell Watson.
"Alright," Campbell nodded.
"Okay, I'll be off then, Director Campbell, Vice Minister Dawson. Goodbye," Iker said, glancing at the sullen face of Vice Minister Dawson, a hint of sympathy flashing across his face.
Ding.
The elevator doors opened, and Iker quickly jogged over, entering the elevator with Layla.
As Layla stepped into the elevator, she inexplicably turned her head and met Campbell's gaze. Their eyes locked.
Campbell's lips curled into a mischievous smile, and he raised an eyebrow playfully.
Remembering Campbell's teasing in the elevator earlier, Layla's face flushed. She quickly looked away and pressed the floor button.
"Everyone, from now on, we're colleagues..."
After Layla and Iker left, Campbell intended to greet the security team properly.
However, he was interrupted once again by Dawson.
"Disperse! What are you all standing around for? Don't you have work to do?" Dawson barked, giving Campbell a sidelong glance before shouting at the security staff.
The security team exchanged glances, looking from Dawson to Campbell. For a moment, no one dared to move.
Although Campbell was the director, Dawson's authority was significant, but he was still just the vice minister. With the director present, they didn't dare act without his command.
"Are you all deaf? Or do you think that just because there's a new manager, you don't have to listen to me anymore? Hmm?"
Seeing that the security team hadn't moved, Dawson's face grew even darker, like the sky before a storm.
His fierce eyes glinted with a dangerous light...
