Chapter 9

The sun had barely risen when Talia found herself in the mansion's kitchen. She needed coffee. And silence. Something to calm the storm raging inside her.

But silence wasn't on the menu today.

Adrian was already there. His expression was unreadable, but his eyes were sharp - almost predatory.

"Good morning," Talia said cautiously.

"Morning," he replied, voice low. He didn't smile. His gaze flicked past her, then back, as if reading her thoughts.

"You're tense," he observed.

"I have a lot on my mind," she admitted. "Serena... the media..."

"That's her problem," he interrupted firmly. "Not yours."

She wanted to believe him. She really did. But every time she saw Serena, every message that appeared on her phone, every whisper online, it reminded her that she wasn't in a safe world - not yet.

Adrian sighed and poured himself a cup of coffee. He glanced at her, his dark eyes softening ever so slightly.

"Do you trust me?" he asked quietly.

Talia blinked. "I... I think I do."

"Think?" he repeated, his tone sharp.

"I do," she corrected quickly.

He nodded once. Then his expression hardened.

"She'll push until she finds a way to humiliate you," he said, darkly. "And I won't allow it."

Talia's chest tightened at the possessiveness in his voice. It was intoxicating. Dangerous.

Later that evening, Talia was in her room when her phone buzzed. Another message.

He still thinks about me. Don't get comfortable, little wife.

Her hands shook as she read it. Serena's threat was clear: she wouldn't stop.

Before she could react, Adrian appeared at her doorway again.

"You got another one?" he asked, already knowing the answer.

She nodded, holding out the phone.

He read it, his dark eyes narrowing. "She's playing a dangerous game," he said quietly. "And she won't stop."

Talia's heart pounded. "What will you do?"

He stepped closer, the air around him thick. "I will handle her," he said firmly. "No one - and I mean no one - threatens what's mine."

She felt the weight of his words. Not just ownership, but protection. Something she hadn't expected... or wanted to admit.

Her gaze dropped to the floor, heart racing. The line between contract and reality was disappearing faster than she could handle.

Then Adrian reached out, brushing a strand of hair from her face. His fingers lingered near her cheek, sending heat coursing through her body.

"Don't forget," he murmured, almost a growl, "you're mine."

Talia's breath caught. She wanted to protest, to remind herself it was a contract.

But she couldn't. Not when the warmth of his touch still burned on her skin.

And deep down, she realized something terrifying:

She didn't want to.

Chapter 10

Talia couldn't breathe.

Serena had found her. Not online, not through messages - in the mansion itself.

She was standing at the grand entrance to the garden, arms crossed, dark eyes sharp, lips curved into a dangerous smirk.

"Hello again, little wife," Serena said, voice dripping with malice. "Did you really think you could stay here unchallenged?"

Talia swallowed hard. "I'm not afraid of you."

Serena laughed softly, a sound that sent chills down Talia's spine. "You should be. This isn't your world, and you're not supposed to belong in it. Adrian will always-"

Before she could finish, Adrian appeared behind Talia, his presence sudden and intense. His dark eyes fixed on Serena, and in that moment, Talia felt something primal emanate from him.

"Stop," Adrian's voice was a low growl, dangerous and absolute. "Now."

Serena's smirk faltered for a split second. "Or what?" she challenged.

Adrian stepped closer, his hand brushing Talia's arm, not letting go. "Or you'll regret it. Everything you've done to intimidate her, to provoke her... stops today. Do you understand me?"

Serena's lips tightened. "You think you can protect her from me?"

"I don't think," Adrian said, voice cold as ice. "I know."

Talia felt a shiver run down her spine - a mixture of fear, awe, and something dangerously like... excitement. His possessiveness wrapped around her like armor, and she realized she'd never felt so safe - or so desired - in her entire life.

Serena glared at both of them, then finally turned, but her parting words were sharp:

"This isn't over. He'll always want me... and soon, you'll see your place."

Adrian didn't move. His eyes followed Serena until she was out of sight, then he turned to Talia, pulling her slightly closer.

"You don't have to worry about her," he said softly, brushing a strand of hair from her face. "Or anyone. Not as long as I'm here. Not as long as this marriage exists."

Talia's chest tightened. "Adrian..." she whispered.

"Yes?" he asked, voice low, commanding.

"I... I-" Her words faltered. She couldn't tell him the truth. That she was already feeling something forbidden, something dangerous. That her heart was starting to care, despite herself.

Adrian leaned slightly closer, and his eyes darkened with intensity. "You don't have to say it. I already know."

Her breath caught. His nearness was intoxicating, terrifying, and undeniable.

For the first time, Talia understood: this contract marriage wasn't just about money, survival, or appearances anymore.

It was about him.

And she was falling.

Chapter 11

The mansion was quieter than usual that night, but Talia could feel tension in every corner.

She had barely finished dinner when Adrian appeared at the doorway of her room. His expression was hard, jaw tight, eyes flashing with a controlled fire.

"Talia," he said quietly, "I won't let her threaten you again."

She looked up at him, heart racing. "What are you going to do?"

"I've already started," he replied. His phone buzzed. "Security has tracked all her movements, and I've informed the press team to monitor her next move. She won't have an opening to intimidate you again."

Talia's chest tightened. "You're... doing all of this for me?"

He took a step closer. "Not for you. For us."

Her breath caught. The possessiveness in his tone was sharp, yet protective. Dangerous. Her pulse thrummed in her ears.

"And... what if she tries again?" she asked softly, though she already feared the answer.

He reached out, brushing a strand of hair from her cheek. The contact sent heat rushing through her body. "Then I deal with her," he said firmly. "You don't have to."

Talia swallowed. His closeness made her forget the warnings, the contract, the rules. All that mattered was him - this man who had claimed her heart, even when she hadn't given permission.

The next morning, the mansion was calm, but the undercurrent of tension remained. Talia wandered through the garden, thinking about Adrian. About Serena. About how her chest still ached at the thought of him.

"Good morning," a familiar voice said behind her.

She turned to see Adrian, hands in his pockets, watching her carefully.

"You're... quiet," he noted, stepping closer. "Thinking about her?"

Talia hesitated. "A little," she admitted. "But mostly... I'm thinking about you."

His dark eyes narrowed, a shadow of something fierce flickering across his expression. "Me?"

"Yes," she whispered. "I... I don't know why, but... I can't stop thinking about you."

Adrian's jaw tightened, but then he smiled - small, rare, almost dangerous. "Good," he murmured. "Because you belong here. With me. Not her. Not anyone else."

Her heart skipped. The words were possessive, raw, and undeniable.

Later that day, a message arrived from Serena.

You're not safe. He'll never stop wanting me.

Talia's hands trembled. She showed Adrian immediately.

He read it, dark eyes flashing. Then he looked at her, his expression sharp.

"Stay close to me," he said softly. "Because she's not just after you. She's after us. And I won't let her win."

Talia felt a shiver of fear - and something else. Something dangerously intoxicating.

"Us?" she whispered.

"Yes," he replied firmly. "Us."

And in that moment, Talia realized: the contract had changed. Their marriage was no longer just signatures and rules.

It had become something much more dangerous... and much more real.
