He Brought His First Love to My Bridal Fitting, So I Left With the Mafia Billionaire Chapter 1

I was standing in a wedding dress when I heard my fiancé tell another woman she was the one he had never stopped wanting.

She was wearing ivory.

At my bridal appointment.

And Adrian was fastening the necklace he bought for me around her throat.

I didn't scream. I didn't confront them.

I walked back into the fitting room, pulled down my zipper, and decided there would be no wedding.

Then the door suddenly opened.

I grabbed the stranger by his jacket and dragged him inside before Adrian could see me.

Only after we were trapped together between a mirror and twenty pounds of white satin did I recognize him.

Dante Moretti.

The billionaire Adrian's entire family had been begging for a meeting.

Three days later, I returned Adrian's ring.

The next night, I walked into his family's gala wearing black.

My hand was wrapped around Dante Moretti's arm.

And Dante leaned down and whispered:

“Smile, sweetheart. Your ex is watching.”

"You look stunning, Miss Ward," the bridal consultant said, smoothing down the French lace along my waist. "Honestly, this is one of the most breathtaking custom gowns we’ve ever produced."

I stared at my reflection in the three-way mirror. The dress was everything I had spent six months planning: a sculpted sweetheart neckline, intricate embroidery trailing down the bodice, and a cathedral train that spread across the pedestal like spun silk.

It was meant to be the centerpiece of the high-society wedding of the year.

"Thank you, Chloe," I said, glancing at the antique clock on the salon wall.

Two-forty.

Adrian was forty minutes late.

"Should we wait a few more minutes before pinning the hem?" Chloe asked gently, noticing my gaze. "Mr. Whitmore might just be caught in downtown traffic."

"He said he was leaving his office an hour ago," I said, pulling my phone from my purse. "Give me a second. I’ll call him."

"Take your time. I’ll grab the pearl pins from the back."

Chloe stepped out through the velvet curtain, leaving me alone on the pedestal. I dialed Adrian’s number, lifting the heavy skirts with one hand as the phone rang in my ear.

One ring. Two. Then it cut straight to voicemail.

I frowned, lowering the phone. Just as I took a step toward the seating area, a low murmur of voices drifted through the partition wall separating my suite from the private VIP lounge next door.

The salon had only two VIP suites on this floor, connected by a narrow service hallway behind the dressing curtains.

"Hold still," a man’s voice said, muffled but unmistakably clear. "You’re going to tangle the clasp."

My hand froze on the satin fabric of my skirt.

It was Adrian.

A woman’s soft, familiar laughter followed, light and teasing. "You used to be better at this, Adrian. Have you lost your touch?"

Celeste.

My heart gave a strange, sickening lurch. Celeste had returned from Paris three weeks ago, but Adrian had assured me they had only spoken once over a brief business lunch. He had sworn there was nothing left between them.

My feet moved before my mind could talk me out of it.

Gathering the voluminous tulle in my arms to keep the fabric from rustling, I walked toward the back corridor. The connecting door to Suite B was cracked open by barely an inch, spilling a strip of warm chandelier light onto the carpet.

I stopped in the shadow of the frame and looked through the gap.

Celeste stood in front of the ornate gilded mirror. She wasn't wearing a cocktail dress. She was wearing an ivory silk gown, floor-length and backless, cut so elegantly that it looked like a minimalist bridal gown.

Adrian stood directly behind her.

His jacket was off, his white shirtsleeves rolled up to his forearms. In his hands was a velvet jewelry box—a deep navy box I recognized instantly. It was the custom diamond teardrop necklace Adrian had shown me sketches of three months ago. He told me the jeweler was still setting the stones in Antwerp, promising it would be his wedding gift to me on our rehearsal dinner.

It wasn't in Antwerp.

Adrian lifted the sparkling platinum chain and draped it over Celeste’s neck. His fingers lingered on her bare skin, brushing past her dark hair as he fastened the clasp.

Celeste looked at him through the mirror, her lips curving into a slow, knowing smile. She lifted one delicate hand to touch the pendant resting against her collarbone.

"Won't your bride mind?" Celeste asked, her voice dripping with playful malice. "Showing up forty minutes late to her final fitting just to buy jewelry for your ex?"

"She won't know," Adrian said smoothly.

"She has eyes, Adrian. What if she sees this on me at the charity gala next week?"

"Sienna understands what marriage means," Adrian replied without a second of hesitation.

I felt the blood drain from my face. The air in the narrow hallway turned frigid, pressing against my chest until I could barely draw breath.

Celeste turned around in his arms, resting her hands against the lapels of his vest. "Does she? And what does marriage mean to you, Adrian? An alliance between your father's firm and the Ward estate?"

Adrian looked down at her. His expression carried an intensity he had never once directed at me during our two-year engagement. With me, he was always polite, steady, and measured. A dependable partner.

With Celeste, his gaze was dark and hungry.

"Sienna is the safe choice," Adrian murmured, stepping closer until Celeste was pinned lightly against the vanity table. "She’s the woman I’m marrying. You’re the woman I never stopped wanting."

Celeste tilted her chin, offering him a triumphant look. "Then prove it."

Adrian reached for the back of her neck, pulling her into a deep, possessive kiss.

I stood in the darkness, staring through the crack in the door.

Every word echoed in my ears like a physical blow. *She’s the woman I’m marrying. You’re the woman I never stopped wanting.*

I didn't storm in. I didn't scream, smash the mirror, or tear the diamonds from her throat. A strange, numbing clarity settled over me, freezing the hot fury in my veins into sharp ice.

Two years of my life. Two years of playing the perfect, understanding fiancée, accommodating his grueling schedule, blending our families' investments, and convincing myself that his quiet reserve was just his nature.

I wasn't his partner. I was his business transaction.

I stepped back silently, letting the shadow swallow me as I retreated down the corridor and slipped back into my fitting room.

I walked to the pedestal and looked at the mirror.

The woman staring back looked absurd. Dressed in hundreds of yards of imported lace, wearing a diamond-encrusted veil, preparing to hand over her life and her family's trust to a man who saw her as nothing more than a convenient contract.

I reached up and pulled the pins from my hair.

One by one, I tore the veil free, dropping the delicate white lace onto the floor. I looked at it crumpled beneath my shoes, feeling a bitter wave of disgust wash over me.

Footsteps echoed in the corridor outside.

"Let me check if Sienna’s stylist is finished," Adrian’s voice drifted through the hallway, closer this time. "We’ll do five minutes of photos so she doesn't suspect anything, and then I’ll take you to dinner."

"Don't take too long," Celeste replied from the lounge.

Panic spiked through my chest. I couldn't face him right now—not while wearing this dress, not before I had secured my assets and figured out how to dismantle this entire charade on my own terms.

Before I could reach for the privacy lock on the main door, the brass handle clicked.

The door swung inward.

I tensed, preparing to throw whatever was in reach, but the man who stepped into the room wasn't Adrian.

He was tall—easily six-foot-two—with broad shoulders encased in an impeccably tailored charcoal suit. He had sharp, aristocratic cheekbones, an angular jaw shaded with a shadow of stubble, and dark, piercing eyes. He was looking down at a sleek gold watch on his wrist, clearly distracted.

He had walked into the wrong suite.

Behind him in the hallway, Adrian's footsteps were barely ten feet away.

"Sienna?" Adrian called out. "Are you in there?"

I didn't think. There was no time to think.

I lunged forward, grabbed the stranger by his silk necktie, and yanked him hard into the room.

The man stumbled slightly in surprise as I slammed the heavy oak door shut behind him and turned the deadbolt with a sharp *click*.

The space inside the dressing area was small, and my massive bridal skirt took up most of the floor. With nowhere else to go, the man was forced directly against me, his chest pressing against mine, the heat of his body radiating through the thin fabric of my bodice.

Outside, Adrian stopped right in front of the door. The handle jiggled.

"Sienna?" Adrian knocked twice. "Is someone in there with you?"

My heart hammered against my ribs. I froze, my fingers still wound tightly around the stranger's expensive tie.

The stranger didn't pull away. He looked down at me, his dark eyes gleaming with cool amusement as he took in my bare shoulders, my disheveled hair, and the wedding dress bunching between our bodies.

He leaned down slightly, his voice a low, gravelly whisper against my ear.

"Do you always kidnap strangers half-dressed?"
