Luna Rejects Cheating Alpha Chapter 1

The familiar wooden steps of our pack house creaked beneath my feet as I climbed toward the front door, my heart lighter than it had been in months. Thanksgiving weekend meant four precious days with Nicholas, away from the endless pack duties and territorial disputes that had consumed our lives lately. My wolf, Luna, stirred contentedly within me, eager to reconnect with our mate after weeks of brief encounters between his alliance meetings.

But the moment I crossed the threshold, everything changed.

A foreign scent hit me like a physical blow—sweet, cloying, distinctly feminine. My enhanced wolf senses, honed through eleven years as Luna of the Moonstone Pack, immediately catalogued the pheromones that didn't belong. This wasn't the familiar musk of our pack members or the earthy undertones of visiting allies. This was something else entirely. Something that made Luna's hackles rise in warning.

I dropped my overnight bag by the door, my nostrils flaring as I followed the scent trail deeper into our home. The smell grew stronger as I moved through the living room, past the stone fireplace where Nicholas and I had shared countless quiet evenings. My hands trembled slightly as I touched the back of his favorite leather chair—the scent clung there like a territorial marker.

"Nicholas?" I called out, my voice echoing through the empty house. No response.

The trail led upstairs, growing more potent with each step. My wolf paced restlessly within me, her agitation bleeding into my human consciousness. In our eleven years together, I had never felt this level of unease in our own territory. The scent was everywhere—on the banister, lingering in the hallway air, saturating the very walls of what should have been our sacred space.

I pushed open the door to our bedroom, and the smell nearly overwhelmed me. It was strongest here, mixed with Nicholas's familiar pine and cedar scent in a way that made my stomach churn. Luna let out a low growl that I felt more than heard, her distress manifesting as a sharp pain in my chest.

My hands moved of their own accord, checking his dresser, his side of the closet, the bathroom we shared. The foreign pheromones were layered throughout our private quarters like invisible graffiti, marking territory that belonged to me. To us. The violation felt deeper than physical—it was spiritual, cutting to the core of everything I believed about our mate bond.

The sound of Nicholas's truck in the driveway sent my heart hammering against my ribs. I forced myself to move downstairs, to arrange my features into something resembling normalcy, even as Luna snarled and paced within me like a caged animal.

Nicholas entered through the kitchen door, his Alpha presence filling the space as it always did. But now I could smell her on him too—that same sweet, alien scent clinging to his clothes, his skin, his hair. How had I never noticed it before?

"Lydia." His smile was warm, familiar, as he crossed the room to embrace me. "You're early. I wasn't expecting you until tonight."

I stepped back before he could touch me, my wolf's instincts overriding eleven years of welcoming his homecoming. "Nicholas, there's a scent here. A she-wolf's scent. It's all over our house, our bedroom—" My voice cracked despite my efforts to remain calm. "Who has been in our territory?"

Something flickered across his features—too quick for a human to catch, but my Luna senses registered the micro-expression of guilt before he smoothed it away. His green eyes, which had always been my anchor, now seemed to look everywhere except directly at me.

"A scent?" He laughed, but the sound was forced, hollow. "Lydia, you're being paranoid. I've been busy with the alliance meetings, remember? Representatives from different packs have been in and out of here for weeks. You're probably picking up on residual pheromones from the negotiations."

But his explanation didn't match what my senses were telling me. This wasn't the scent of multiple wolves or formal meetings. This was intimate, personal, concentrated in our most private spaces. Luna's agitation spiked, and for the first time in our eleven-year bond, I felt her actively recoil from our mate's presence.

"The scent is strongest in our bedroom, Nicholas. In our bed." The words came out sharper than I intended, edged with an authority I rarely used with him. "This isn't from alliance meetings. This is from someone who has been living here. Someone who has been—"

"Enough." His Alpha tone cut through my accusations, commanding and dismissive. "You're imagining things, Lydia. Maybe you need to rest. The stress of pack duties has obviously gotten to you."

The casual dismissal hit me harder than any physical blow. In eleven years, Nicholas had never used his Alpha voice on me, never dismissed my concerns so coldly. Luna whimpered within me, confused and hurt by our mate's rejection of something we both knew to be true.

I stared at the man I had loved since I was barely more than a girl, searching his face for any sign of the Nicholas who had held me through my mother's death, who had sworn eternal loyalty under the full moon. But all I saw was a stranger wearing his face, his scent now forever tainted by the foreign pheromones that clung to him like evidence of betrayal.

For the first time in eleven years, I felt truly alone in my own home.
