I Wish I Knew The Truth Before Divorcing My CEO Wife Chapter 1

On the seventh year of our marriage, she posted an intimate photo of herself with the other man—the one she used to call her first love—publicly flaunting it on her social media.

[My new assistant. Isn't he handsome? Isn't he sweet?]

I commented under the post.

[You two look like a married couple.]

Not long after, the post disappeared. Then she called—furious. Screaming at me for being stupid.

Minutes later, that photo became the man’s profile picture on Instagram.

I asked him, “Don’t you think that’s inappropriate?”

He sneered back, shameless and arrogant, “Why would it be? Ms. Lawrence doesn’t mind—who the hell are you to say anything?”

Everyone seemed to forget. I’m the real owner of the company. But this time, I’m done being quiet.

——

Natalie came home late that night. Earlier, she had posted another update.

[Only when I’m with him do I realize that youth can truly last forever.]

The photo showed the two of them gazing deeply into each other’s eyes, like a pair of soulmates. She knew I would see it. She wanted me to see it. When she saw me eating a late-night snack, her tone was cold and casual.

“You’re still eating this late? Trying to get fat again?”

She used to stop me from eating takeout. She’d even cook for me herself. But now, she didn’t wait for a response. She just walked into the bathroom. Maybe she already knew my answer didn’t matter anymore.

Over the years, there had always been outstanding men around her. But this time, it felt different. After her shower, she found me at the sink, washing dishes. She came over and said,

“That photo I posted? It was just for fun. You overreacted.”

“Is that so?” I turned to look at her. “Then why has he made it his profile picture?”

She frowned. “That’s what I came to talk about.”

There was disdain in her eyes.

“All he did was use a photo for his profile. And you threatened him? Don’t you think you’ve gone too far?”

“Too far?” I paused. Have I?

This guy—this homewrecker—publicly uses a photo of himself with my wife as his profile, flaunting their relationship. And I’m not even allowed to say a word? Because if I do, I’m threatening him? Maybe in her eyes, I really was the one at fault. Maybe I was supposed to stay quiet, let the other man strut around like he owned the place. But I couldn’t do it.

“Call him and apologize.”

Before I could respond, Natalie shoved her phone into my hand—commanding me, like always. Maybe she didn’t realize—maybe she didn’t care—that she was trampling all over my dignity. Or maybe, she did it on purpose.

I was boiling inside, a storm raging in my heart. But I stayed calm. I asked her, “He gets to be close with my wife and I’m the one who has to apologize?”

“What kind of nonsense is that?!” she snapped. “You haven’t grown up one bit after all these years!”

“I’m not arguing with you. I’m calling him now—and you will apologize!”

She was always like this. Bossy. Dominant. Always in control. Back in school, she was the queen bee—no one dared cross her. She dropped out young and started working—fighting, hustling, flipping goods—anything that made money. Eventually, she made a name for herself. She opened bars, restaurants. She became a local business legend. And me? I grew up with no one. Bullied, alone. She protected me. She paid for my education. I owed her everything. So the moment I graduated, I married her. I worked like hell for her business—even risked my life once. For years, I did everything she asked, no complaints. In daily life, I always put her first. But this time... it was different. This time, I said no.

“I refuse.” I looked her straight in the eye. My voice was ice.

She stared back at me, stunned. I had never gone against her—especially not when she was angry.

“You dare?” she hissed, face flushed with fury.

But before she could explode, the call went through.

“Hello? Ms. Lawrence? I’m just doing your laundry. Didn’t expect your underwear to be this cute...”

The voice on the other end made her expression shift. For once, she looked... nervous.

“It’s not what you think,” she stammered. “I was just at his place for a drink. I spilled something on my clothes and borrowed some to change. I was going to throw them away…”

Watching her squirm, I quietly picked up the phone.

“This is Kevin Carrey. You’re no longer employed at our company.”

Robin Wills, the man on the other end, didn’t even flinch. He laughed.

“Kevin, don’t flatter yourself. You think you’re someone important? Legally, sure, you’re her husband. But let’s be real—you’re just her kept man. You have zero authority over me. In this company, only Ms. Lawrence can fire me. As for you? Get lost.”

His arrogance didn’t faze me. I’ve been through hell building this company for her. I’ve nearly died for it. That taught me how to keep calm in the face of chaos.

“You’ll regret this,” I said, still calm.

“Pfft. Save your empty threats for someone else. I’m not scared of you.”

He was bold. And honestly? I was glad. It had been a long time since something stirred me like this. Without saying another word, I handed the phone to Natalie.

“Fire him.”

She took the phone but didn’t comply.

“I finally found a decent assistant. I’m not just going to fire him.”

“Then fire me,” I said, meeting her gaze.

She glared at me, furious. “You haven’t changed at all! Still the same petty little man!”

“He’s just a secretary! You’re really going to act like this over a secretary?!”

Her yelling didn’t shake me. It only made me colder. And in the calmest voice she’s ever heard from me, I said, “Then let’s get a divorce.”
