After Romeo underwent a life-threatening procedure for a complete blood transfusion to save his daughter, Paris Walker suddenly spoke.
"I hooked up with your brother," she said, her voice dripping with taunting nostalgia as she gestured toward the ICU.
"While you were next door donating blood, Everest and I were... together," she added with a sly smile. "He was especially intense that time. I could barely keep quiet—almost got us caught."
Romeo Mason lay there, his body wrecked with pain as the anesthesia wore off. He was stunned—unable to process her words. His eyes locked on Paris, wide with disbelief. "What did you just say?"
Without blinking, Paris kept gently wiping the cold sweat from his forehead. "There's no way around it. Everest is my legal husband now."
To make sure he believed her, she pulled out two certificates and pushed them toward him with a smirk. "Didn't Everest mention it to you?"
"He didn't want to be some dirty secret. I couldn't stand seeing him upset, so a year ago, I took care of the divorce papers for us and married him."
Boom—
The realization detonated in Romeo's mind. He stared at the two documents on the table—one blue, one white. The blue divorce certificate clearly bore his name and Paris's. The white marriage certificate listed Everest as the groom.
A cold chill raced through his veins. The voice that had once enchanted him now spewed words that turned his heart to ice.
"Come to think of it, you were the one who handed him right to me," Paris went on. "If you hadn't bragged about how identical you two were and dared me to tell you apart, I wouldn't have gone after Everest so deliberately."
With a casual peck on his cheek, Paris smiled knowingly. "But now, I can tell you two apart clearly."
"You two may look alike, but he's in better shape than you—and way more exciting in bed."
It felt like an invisible hand wrapped around his throat. Memories of their wedding day came flooding back—Paris, surrounded by friends and family, passionately vowing to stay by Romeo's side through thick and thin...
Forever.
Tears welled up against his will as his heart grew colder by the second. Was this her definition of "forever"? Sleeping with his brother?
A burst of laughter shattered his thoughts. Paris's friends flooded into the room, their taunts and laughter echoing off the walls.
"Congratulations, Paris! We all knew you were dying to reveal this!" one teased.
"Don't worry, Paris. We'll keep an eye on things here. The kid's already with her new dad. Go ahead and take that family photo!"
Romeo's entire body went rigid, as if struck by lightning. Ignoring the searing pain, he lunged forward, grabbing at Paris's dress, his voice cracking with anguish.
"What the hell did you just say?! Paris Walker! Where have you taken our daughter?!"
Paris merely glanced down at him, mildly irritated. "Instead of letting her stay with you and be labeled a fatherless child, I'd rather she call Everest her father and be recognized as a daughter of the Walker family."
She shrugged dismissively. "Don't worry, we'll be one big happy family. As she grows up, she won't remember you. She'll only know Everest and me as her loving parents."
With those words, Romeo's heart sank. The memories of his sacrifice rushed back—days of donating blood until he could barely stand, his body swollen beyond recognition.
He remembered the night before, barely making it through the blood transfusion, desperately signing the critical condition notice—all to make sure his daughter survived.
And now, with just a few sentences, Paris was trying to take away the child he'd nearly died to save. And the accomplice in her betrayal? None other than the brother he'd cared for over eighteen years!
"Paris Walker, you're heartless!" Romeo rasped, every word shaking with rage.
"Give me back my daughter! She's mine—she has nothing to do with you!" he cried. "I'm taking her away... I'm taking her away!"
