Huge Transfer: Betrayed by Husband and Secretary Chapter 1

After five years of marriage, Hanna Jones, my husband's secretary, posted a screenshot of a large sum transfer on a social platform with a caption: [Work can be even sweeter than a romantic relationship.]

I just commented to her about working hard and found out that she had blocked my account.

Matteo Orlando, my husband, called and scolded me.

"I just gave my employee an advance bonus for her birthday! Why did you send her private messages to curse her?

"My tolerance towards you is not a reason for you to make trouble unreasonably!"

The receiver clearly conveyed the comforting voices of all the company's employees and Hanna's aggrieved sobs.

Before I could explain, the call was hung up and blocked.

Immediately afterward, Hanna publicly posted a photo of a transfer of one million dollars.

I knew that was Matteo's compensation to her.

But this time, I didn't care.

——

I had just thrown away my takeaway when Matteo stepped into the house.

After the miscarriage, the doctor told me to eat a light diet this month, but I didn't listen to the advice.

It was our fifth wedding anniversary, so I checked out of the hospital early to return home and arranged a candlelit dinner at a hotel to celebrate with him.

I waited for his reply for a whole day. If I hadn't seen Hanna's post and received that call just before I left home, I might still have waited in the hotel like a fool.

After returning home, Matteo glanced at the empty dining table and frowned, displeased.

"Didn't cook today?"

I nodded calmly, scrolling across the screen with my fingers.

"You've eaten out before, haven't you?"

Previously, despite my busy work schedule, I always returned home early to make dinner for him.

A slight frown from him would make me restless.

A humble attitude was destined not to be rewarded with equal love, but unfortunately, I only understood this now.

Matteo didn't even notice that something was wrong with me.

He walked straight up to me and opened the packaged cake in his hand.

"I brought this specially for you. Didn't you say you wanted to eat something sweet a few days ago?"

A leftover cake with dents and pits, showing signs of once containing fruit, appeared before me.

I glanced at it and returned my gaze to my phone again.

Matteo didn't expect me to be so cold, his brows furrowing impatiently.

"Tiffany Bynes! What do you mean? You said you wanted to eat cake, so I brought it back for you from far away. Why are you making a fuss? Is it enough?"

"I don't want anything that has been touched by others. It's dirty."

Just then, a message alert sounded in his hand.

Matteo glanced down, a barely perceptible smile forming on his face.

It was so evident who sent him the message.

His expression was cold, yet joy shone in his eyes as he looked up.

"Alright. I'll go out and buy you another one, okay? I'm so busy at work and have to confront your cold face when I come back. Come on!"

He said so and prepared to turn around and leave home.

I remembered that I was in a hurry to be discharged from the hospital today and didn't have time to get my medicine.

Thus, I stood up, changed my shoes, and followed him out. Facing Matteo's slightly angry gaze, I said in a deep voice, "When you go shopping, drop me off at the pharmacy so I can buy some medicine."

Yet he became alert like a hedgehog with its fur standing on end.

"I'm going to buy you a cake and you're following me? What's wrong with you? Why don't you just put a leash around my neck?"

I understood his irritation because I used to be worried about him going out at night and kept asking him questions.

But this time, I sighed and explained, "There is a pharmacy one street away from the community. Just leave me there. I have no interest in following you."

The moment I got in the car, I saw him hastily placing an order for blueberry cake on his phone.

Reaching the pharmacy, I got out of the car directly.

And Matteo seemed surprised, no longer irate as he spoke.

"Get the medicine and just wait here for me to pick you up."

He sped by, splashing mud on my legs as I entered the drugstore, frustratedly wiping it off.

After purchasing the medicine, I waited by the door for two hours, my body growing stiff, yet there was no sign of him.

A thunder startled me awake, and heavy rain drenched me before I could hail a taxi.

Following the doctor's advice, I hurried to a grocery to purchase an umbrella.

But it was still too late.

The abdominal cramps forced me to squat and curl up on the ground.

Had the driver of a passing vehicle not noticed me and offered me a ride back to the community, I would likely have needed an ambulance.

As soon as I got home, dried my body, and took the medicine, Matteo slammed the door with a loud bang.

"Why didn't you tell me you were back? Do you know how many times I wandered around in the rain? I spent an entire hour looking for you! You're having fun teasing me, right?"
