Cecelia's POV
Golden had been asleep for an hour while Zeke knocked softly on our bedroom door. I'd been reading in the chair beside Golden's small bed watching him breathe peacefully when Zeke poked his head in.
"Come with me," he whispered while gesturing toward the hallway. "I have something planned."
I stood carefully while not wanting to wake Golden. He'd had a good day today, his color was better while the blue light under his skin
had barely flickered at all. The doctor said the Alpha essence treatments were working while Golden's body was stabilizing.
Zeke took my hand while leading me through our quarters to the private balcony I hadn't used much since moving back in. When he opened the door my breath caught because the space had been transformed.
Candles covered every surface while their warm glow made everything look soft. A small table was set with real plates and silverware while covered dishes sat
waiting. A bottle of wine was already open while two glasses sat beside it.
"You did all this?" I asked while turning to look at him.
"I wanted to do something nice for you," Zeke said while looking almost nervous. "We haven't had a real date since you came back and I thought maybe we could talk without doctors and guards and everything else getting in the way."
My chest felt warm while I stepped onto the balcony. "It's perfect."
Zeke pulled out my chair while I sat
down. He took the seat across from me while pouring wine into both glasses. The night air was cool but not cold while stars were starting to appear in the darkening sky.
"I don't even know what we're eating," I admitted while lifting the cover off my plate.
"Chicken with that sauce you used
to like," Zeke said while watching my face. "And roasted vegetables because you always said they were your favorite."
He'd remembered while that detail from three years ago had stayed with him. I took a bite while the food was still warm and tasted exactly like I remembered from our early marriage when Zeke would sometimes cook for me.
"This is really good," I said while taking another bite.
"I've been practicing," Zeke admitted while starting on his own food.
"Cooking helped me feel connected to you while you were gone so I got pretty good at it."
We ate in comfortable silence for a few minutes while I watched him across the table. The candlelight made shadows dance across his face while softening the hard edges he usually carried as Alpha. He looked younger like this while more like the man I'd fallen for during those first few months of marriage.
"Tell me something," Zeke said while setting down his fork. "What was your favorite part about living in Seacreek?"
I thought about it while sipping my wine. "The simplicity I guess. No pack politics or expectations or people watching my every move. Just me and Golden living a quiet life by the ocean."
"Do you miss it?" he asked while his expression was careful.
"Sometimes," I admitted honestly. "But not enough to want to go back. Everything important to me is here now."
Something shifted in his face while relief replaced the worry. "Good because I don't think I could survive
you leaving again."
"I'm not leaving," I promised while reaching across the table.
He took my hand while his thumb rubbed circles on my palm. "I want to do this right Cecelia. I want to rebuild what we had but better this time because I'm not scared anymore."
"What were you scared of before?" I asked even though I thought I knew the answer.
"Everything," Zeke said while his voice went quiet. "Scared of feeling too much, scared of being
vulnerable, scared that if I let myself love you completely it would somehow dishonor Layla's memory."
"And now?" I prompted while squeezing his hand.
"Now I know that loving you doesn't take anything away from what Layla and I had," he said while meeting my eyes. "It's just different. What I felt for Layla was comfortable and expected while what I feel for you is wild and intense and terrifying in the best way."
My throat got tight while hearing
him say that out loud. "I feel the same way about you."
We stared at each other while the bond between us hummed stronger. The air felt charged while I could see desire building in his eyes. We'd been living together for weeks,
sleeping in the same bed, being close constantly while caring for Golden. But we hadn't crossed that line yet
because everything had been focused on our son's recovery.
Now Golden was stable while we finally had space to think about us again.
"I want you," Zeke said while his voice dropped lower. "I've wanted you since the moment you walked back into my life but the timing was never right."
"The timing is right now," I said while standing up from my chair.
Zeke was on his feet immediately while moving around the table to reach me. His hands cupped my face while his eyes searched mine for any hesitation. Finding none, he kissed me hard while all the restraint we'd been showing for weeks finally broke.
I kissed him back while my hands fisted in his shirt. The bond exploded between us singing with approval while we stumbled back toward the door. We made it inside while Zeke kicked the door closed behind us without breaking the kiss.
His hands were everywhere while pulling at my clothes. I worked on his shirt buttons while my fingers fumbled because I couldn't focus on anything except the feel of his mouth on mine. We left a trail of clothes across the floor while making our way to the bed.
When we finally fell onto the
mattress together, skin against skin, I felt like I could breathe properly for the first time in three years. This was what had been missing while this connection that went deeper than just physical.
"I forgot," Zeke breathed against my neck while his hands explored like he was memorizing me all over again. "I forgot how perfect you feel."
I couldn't form words while just pulled him closer. The bond between us pulsed hot and bright while weaving us back together in ways that went beyond the
physical. Every touch, every kiss, every shared breath rebuilt what had been broken.
Later we lay tangled together while both of us breathing hard. Zeke's arm was around me while my head rested on his chest listening to his heartbeat slow back to normal.
"I missed this," I admitted quietly. "Not just the physical part but this. Being close to you without walls between us."
"The physical part was never our problem," Zeke agreed while his hand traced patterns on my back. "We always connected like this even when everything else was falling apart."
"What was our problem then?" I asked even though I knew.
"I was," Zeke said simply. "I was so busy protecting myself that I didn't see I was hurting you. But I'm done
running from what scares me Cecelia. I'm all in this time."
I tilted my head up to look at him while seeing nothing but sincerity in his face. "Promise?"
"I promise," he said while sealing it with a kiss.
We fell asleep like that while wrapped around each other. When I woke later Golden was calling from his room. Zeke
and I both got up while pulling on clothes quickly. We found Golden sitting up in bed looking confused.
"I had a bad dream," Golden said
while his bottom lip trembled.
I climbed into bed beside him while pulling him into my arms. "It's okay baby, dreams can't hurt you."
"What if the bad people come back?" Golden asked while burrowing against my chest.
"They can't come back," Zeke said while sitting on the other side of the bed. "They're all gone now where they can never hurt you again."
"Promise?" Golden asked while looking between us.
"Promise," we both said at the same
time.
Golden relaxed while clearly believing us. "Can I sleep with you guys tonight?"
Zeke and I exchanged glances while we'd been trying to get Golden comfortable in his own room. But seeing the fear in his eyes made the decision easy.
"Of course you can," I said while standing up with him still in my arms.
We all climbed into the big bed while Golden settled between us. He fell asleep quickly while feeling
safe with both his parents on either side. Zeke's hand found mine across Golden's small body while our fingers laced together over our son. Through the bond I felt contentment from Zeke while this simple moment of all three of us together was everything he'd wanted.
The next evening after Golden was settled with a book and one of the guards watching him, Zeke led me back to the balcony. The night was warmer than yesterday while a gentle breeze came off the distant mountains. We sat side by side on
the outdoor couch while Zeke pulled me against him.
"I've been thinking," he started while his arm came around my shoulders. "About us and what comes next."
"What comes next?" I repeated while looking up at him.
"I want to make this official," Zeke said while turning to face me more fully. "Not like before when we were forced together
for politics. I want a real mating ceremony where we choose each other because we want to, not because we have to."
My heart started beating faster while I processed what he was asking. "You want to have another ceremony?"
"The first one didn't count," Zeke said while his hand came up to cup my face. "That was duty and obligation while everyone watched us go through motions we didn't really feel. This time I want it to be real, just us choosing each other in front of the people we care about."
"When?" I asked while already knowing my answer would be yes.
"Three months from now," Zeke
I
suggested. "That gives Golden time to adjust to all the changes while also giving us time to make sure we're solid before making it permanent.
"We're already permanent," I pointed out while gesturing between us. "The bond rebuilt itself whether we wanted it to or not."
"I know," Zeke agreed. "But the ceremony would be for us, to mark this as a new beginning instead of trying to fix what broke before."
I thought about it while three months felt right. Not so long that
we'd be waiting forever but long enough to prove this wasn't just emotion from the crisis we'd been through.
"Okay," I said while a smile spreading across my face. "Let's do it. A real mating ceremony where we actually mean the vows we say."
Zeke's expression lit up while he pulled me into a kiss that made my toes curl. When we broke apart we were both breathing hard while the bond hummed approval between us.
"There's more," Zeke said while
settling me back against his chest. "I want to formally adopt Golden as my legal son, not just through the bond but through pack law. And I want you to be Luna again officially, through a pack vote where they choose you instead of you just being my mate by default."
"You think they'd vote for me?" I
asked while uncertainty crept in. "I abandoned the Luna position for three years."
"You didn't abandon it, you were driven away," Zeke corrected firmly. "And yes, I know they'd vote for you because I've heard how pack members talk about you. They respect what you survived while they're grateful you came back."
The idea of being Luna again felt both scary and right while I'd never really gotten to do the job properly during our first marriage. "What would that involve?"
"Pack meetings, charity work, being the face of female leadership in the pack," Zeke explained. "Basically everything you should have been doing before but I was too stupid to include you in."
"I could do that," I said while warming to the idea. "I'd like to do that actually, to have a real role instead of just being the Alpha's wife."
"Good," Zeke said while pressing a kiss to the top of my head. "Because you'd be amazing at it."
CECELIA'S POV
We sat in comfortable silence while I processed everything. A real mating ceremony, becoming Luna officially, raising Golden together as a family. Three months ago this would have seemed impossible while now it felt inevitable like this was always where we were meant to end up.
"I want more children," I said suddenly while the thought had been building for a while. "Not right away but someday. Golden should
have siblings."
Zeke's arm tightened around me while through the bond I felt his immediate agreement. "How many are we talking?"
"Two or three more maybe?" I suggested while tilting my head to look at him. "Enough that Golden isn't lonely but not so many that we're completely overwhelmed."
"I like that," Zeke said while his hand moved to rest on my stomach like he could already picture me pregnant. "Golden would be a good big brother."
"He would," I agreed while imagining our son helping with a baby. "Though we should probably wait until his wolf emergence situation is more stable before adding another child to the mix."
"Agreed," Zeke said. "But knowing we're planning for it, that we're building a future together, that means everything to me."
We talked late into the night while planning details that felt both exciting and terrifying. Where we'd live long term, how we'd handle pack politics together, what kind of education we wanted for Golden.
The conversation flowed easily while we were finally on the same page about everything.
"I love you," I said when we finally headed inside. "I know I've been holding back from saying it but I do. I love you Zeke."
"I love you too," Zeke replied while stopping to pull me close. "I never stopped loving you even when I was too scared to admit it."
We made love again that night while slower and more tender than before. Every touch was a promise while every kiss sealed our
commitment to making this work. When we fell asleep wrapped around each other, the bond between us hummed with complete contentment.
Three months passed faster than I expected while life settled into a comfortable routine. Golden's health improved daily while the doctor said the premature emergence was fully suppressed. He'd need monitoring as he grew but the crisis had passed.
Golden adjusted to pack life surprisingly well while making friends at the pack school. He loved
having a father while following Zeke around whenever possible asking endless questions. Watching them bond made my heart full while this was what Golden had always deserved.
I took on more Luna duties while finding I actually enjoyed the work. Planning pack events, visiting families who needed support, being involved in decisions that affected our people. The pack members welcomed me warmly while many apologized for not seeing through Layla's manipulations years ago.
Zeke and I grew stronger together
while learning how to actually communicate instead of assuming what the other needed. We had disagreements sometimes but we talked through them instead of letting them fester. The bond between us deepened while becoming unshakeable.
Now the morning of our mating ceremony had arrived while I woke with butterflies dancing in my stomach. Unlike three years ago when I'd been scared and uncertain about marrying a man who barely looked at me, today I felt only joy and peace.
Zeke's arms tightened around me from behind while his face pressed into my neck. "Good morning," he murmured while his voice was still rough from sleep.
"Good morning," I replied while turning in his arms so I could see his face.
We lay there for a moment while
just looking at each other. Zeke's hair was messy from sleep while his eyes were soft in a way they never used to be. He'd changed so much in three months while becoming the man I'd always known he could be when he let his walls down.
"Nervous?" he asked while his hand came up to cup my cheek.
"Not even a little bit," I admitted while meaning it completely. "Are you?"
"No," Zeke said while a smile crossed his face. "I know exactly
what I'm choosing while there's no doubt in my mind that you're it for me."
"Good," I said while leaning in to kiss him softly. "Because you're it for me too."
We kissed slowly while savoring these last moments before the chaos of ceremony preparations would pull us apart. Golden was sleeping in his own room now while he'd finally gotten comfortable there after weeks of transition. The silence in our room felt peaceful while I could hear Zeke's heartbeat under my palm where my hand
rested on his chest.
"Today you become my mate by choice," Zeke said while pulling back to look at me seriously. "Not because of duty or politics or peace treaties. Just because we want each other."
"I choose you," I said while holding his gaze.
"I choose us, I choose this family we're building. I choose all of it freely."
"So do I," Zeke replied while his voice was thick with emotion. "Every day for the rest of my life I choose you."
The bond between us flared bright while sealing our private vows to each other before we'd even made the public ones. This moment felt more significant than any ceremony while it was just us promising to love each other without fear or reservation.
A knock on the door interrupted while Golden's voice called out asking if he could come in. We both laughed while pulling apart to get dressed quickly.
"Come in buddy," Zeke called while pulling on pants.
Golden burst through the door while already dressed in the small suit we'd gotten him for the ceremony. His curly hair was combed neat while his face showed pure excitement.
"Is it time yet?" Golden asked while bouncing on his toes. "Can we go do the ceremony now?"
"Not yet," I said while scooping him up. "We have to get ready first while all the guests arrive."
"But I'm already ready," Golden protested while gesturing at his suit.
"You look very handsome," Zeke said while ruffling Golden's hair. "But mama and I need time to get ready too."
"Why does getting ready take so long?" Golden asked while his face scrunched up with confusion.
"Because grown ups are complicated," I explained while setting him down. "Now go have breakfast with Marcus while we get ready. We'll come get you when it's time."
Golden ran off while his excitement was contagious. Zeke pulled me
back into his arms while we stoodWe'd promise to love and cherish while meaning every word instead of just going through motions.
But right now in this quiet moment, it was just us while the bond hummed contentedly between us. We'd been through so much to get here while the journey had nearly destroyed us both. But we'd survived while we'd found our way back to each other despite everything trying to keep us apart.
"I love you," I whispered while knowing those words would never get old. there swaying slightly to music only we could hear.
"This is really happening," I said while resting my head on his chest.
"This is really happening," Zeke confirmed while his arms tightened around me. "And I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you."
We stood there holding each other while the morning light grew brighter through the windows. In a few hours we'd stand before the pack while saying vows that actually meant something this time.
We'd promise to love and cherish while meaning every word instead of just going through motions.
But right now in this quiet moment, it was just us while the bond hummed contentedly between us. We'd been through so much to get here while the journey had nearly destroyed us both. But we'd survived while we'd found our way back to
each other despite everything trying to keep us apart.
"I love you," I whispered while knowing those words would never get old.
"I love you too," Zeke replied while tilting my chin up for one more kiss. "Now and always."
A few hours later, my quarters filled with female pack members who'd come to help me prepare. Unlike three years ago when I'd gotten ready alone in a cold room with servants I barely knew, today felt warm and welcoming.
Marcus's mate Elena was there along with several other high ranking females who'd welcomed me back warmly over the past three months. They chatted while helping me into my dress, doing my hair,
making sure everything was perfect.
"You look beautiful," Elena said while stepping back to admire her work. "Zeke won't be able to take his eyes off you."
I looked at myself in the mirror while barely recognizing the woman
staring back. My dress was simple but elegant in cream silk while I'd chosen something that felt meaningful rather than elaborate. My hair was styled in loose waves while minimal makeup let my natural features show through.
"How do you feel?" one of the other females asked while adjusting my dress.
"Happy," I said while meaning it completely. "Three years ago I was terrified walking down the aisle to marry someone who didn't want me. Today I'm excited to choose the man I love."
The females smiled while clearly pleased by my answer. A knock on the door brought Golden bursting in while his face lit up when he saw me.
"Mama, you look like a princess," Golden exclaimed while running over to hug my legs.
"Thank you baby," I said while kneeling down carefully so I wouldn't wrinkle my dress. "Are you ready to walk me down to daddy?"
"Yes," Golden said while bouncing with excitement. "I get to give you away like in the stories."
"That's right," I confirmed while taking his small hand. "You're going to escort me through the grove to where daddy is waiting."
The females left ahead of us while giving me a moment alone with Golden. I looked down at my son while marveling at how much had changed in three months. He was healthy now, happy, thriving with both his parents in his life.
"I love you mama," Golden said while looking up at me with those big eyes.
"I love you too baby," I replied while
my throat getting tight with emotion. "So much."
We walked out of the quarters together while Golden held my hand proudly. The path to the sacred grove was lined with pack members who smiled and nodded as we passed. Unlike the large political affair my first wedding had been,
today's ceremony included only close friends and important pack members while intimacy was prioritized over spectacle.
The sacred grove appeared ahead while ancient trees formed a natural cathedral. Sunlight filtered
through the leaves while creating patterns on the ground. I could see Zeke waiting at the altar with Marcus beside him while both men wore formal suits.
Golden squeezed my hand while we started down the path through the grove. Pack members stood on either side while their faces showing genuine happiness for us. This felt so different from before when I'd walked alone through hostile faces while wondering if I was making a terrible mistake.
Zeke's expression when he saw me approaching made my breath
catch. The raw love and wonder on his face left no doubt about his feelings while the bond between us swelled with emotion. He looked at me like I was the only person in the world while everything else faded away.
We reached the altar while Golden seriously announced he was giving mama to daddy. Zeke scooped Golden up briefly before setting him with Marcus to watch. Then he took both my hands in his while we stood facing each other.
The pack elder who would perform the ceremony smiled at us warmly.
"We gather today to witness the mating of Alpha Zeke and Cecelia Blackwood," he began. "This is not their first ceremony together but it is their first true one where both parties choose freely from the heart."
Murmurs of agreement went through the assembled pack while everyone knew our complicated history.
"Alpha Zeke," the elder continued. "Do you take Cecelia as your mate, your partner, your equal? Do you promise to cherish her, protect your family together, and choose her
above all others for the rest of your days?"
Zeke's eyes never left mine while he spoke his vows. "I do," he said while his voice was strong and clear. "Three years ago I spoke these words without meaning them fully. Today I mean every single one. Cecelia, I promise to cherish you and choose you every single day. I promise to be the mate and father our family deserves. I promise to love you with everything I am for the rest of my life."
Tears streamed down my face while I felt the sincerity of his
words through our bond. This was nothing like our first ceremony where he'd spoken coldly while barely looking at me.
"Cecelia," the elder turned to me. "Do you take Zeke as your mate, your partner, your equal? Do you promise to love him, build your future together, and stand beside him through whatever comes?"
"I do," I said while my voice thick with emotion. "I choose you Zeke, freely and completely. I promise to trust you with my heart, to build our family together, and to love you through everything. You are my
mate, my partner, and my forever."
The elder smiled while placing his hands over our joined ones. "Then by the power granted to me and witnessed by this pack, I pronounce you officially mated. May your bond be strong, your love be deep, and your family be blessed."
"You may kiss your mate," he added while stepping back.
Zeke pulled me close while his hands cupped my face. "I love you," he whispered before pressing his lips to mine.
The kiss started gentle while quickly deepening as three years of separation and pain were replaced with reunion and hope. The bond between us exploded with light while weaving us together in ways that went beyond the physical. I felt his love, his commitment, his determination to make this work flooding through our connection.
The pack erupted in cheers while we broke apart both breathing hard.
Zeke rested his forehead against mine while we just stood there wrapped in each other while the rest of the world faded away.
"We did it," I whispered.
"We did," Zeke agreed while his thumb wiping away my happy tears. "This time forever means forever."
Golden ran up while throwing his arms around both our legs. "Are we a real family now?"
"We were always a real family," Zeke said while scooping our son up so he was between us. "But now it's official."
Golden beamed while wrapping his arms around both our necks to pull us into a group hug. The three of us stood there in the sacred grove while pack members clapped and cheered around us. Through the bond I felt Zeke's complete contentment while this moment was everything he'd dreamed of during our separation
This was my family while broken and healed and finally complete. We'd survived betrayal, separation, kidnapping, and nearly losing each other for good. But we'd fought our way back while proving that some
bonds were strong enough to survive anything.
As we walked back down the path together with Golden between us holding both our hands, I looked at my mate and our son while knowing this was just the beginning. We had a lifetime ahead of us to build memories, raise our family,
and love each other the way we should have from the start.
The bond hummed contentedly between Zeke and me while the future stretched bright and certain ahead of us. We'd found our way home to each other while this time
nothing would tear us apart again.
Forever started now.
