He Broke Me First, I Made Him Regret It Later Chapter 1

Before I took the most important entrance exam of my life, I fell in love with Ethan Young and got deeply involved with him.

As expected, I failed the exam. He suddenly turned into a different person and threw my pregnancy test report at my father.

“The Wells family’s daughter is really something. Your precious girl is already pregnant—with my child. Congratulations, you’ll be a grandfather soon.”

“But I never agreed to take responsibility…”

Then he went home to pack his things, ready to leave. I threw a drafted agreement at him.

“What happens to the baby if you just walk away?”

“You can raise it after it's born. Here’s a check for 100,000. Is that enough?” He signed the agreement without even reading it.

Soon after, Ethan ran off with Sienna West—his first love, the one he had secretly kept for five years—leaving everything in ruins. He did it all to take revenge on my father, whom he believed had caused Sienna’s family to go bankrupt.

My father jumped off a building, driven to suicide by a massive debt from a strange business war. My mother turned gray overnight and was left to support the family alone.

And me? I was six months pregnant, failed the entrance exam, and became an unmarried mother at barely eighteen—looked down upon by everyone.

But just when I gave birth, he came back and knelt to beg for forgiveness.

What he didn’t know was—I’d be marrying a billionaire with cancer a week later.

1682.

My longtime boyfriend, Ethan, threw the pregnancy test report in front of my father, a smug expression on his face.

“What’s this?”

“The Wells family’s daughter really doesn’t know how to take care of herself. Just 18, not even married, and already pregnant. You’re about to be a grandfather.”

“But I’m not taking responsibility...”

I saw everything from the attic. Just a week ago, he promised he’d marry me.

I thought he came today to propose—to meet the family. Instead, he caused a scandal.

After that, Ethan stormed out. I picked up the test report and ran after him, furious. “What do you mean by this?”

He saw I was upset but casually answered a phone call. He brushed past me and sped off, saying he had work.

I stood there in shock. A message from a strange number suddenly arrived, followed by a series of indecent photos. I immediately recognized him—Ethan as the man in the pictures.

I sent the photos to him and called him dozens of times, but he declined everyone.

I rushed to his place, hoping to confront him. But no one was home.

I had given everything to Ethan. I couldn’t bear to leave him, not with a child on the way. The dread inside me grew until nightfall, when I finally tracked him through GPS.

The flashing lights and pounding music—it was a high-end private KTV.

I knocked on every door until I found the largest private room. I took a deep breath, ready to face him, but then I heard something through the door.

“Ethan’s such a romantic. The West family’s bankrupt and dirt poor, yet he’s still supporting Sienna…”

“Poor girlfriend, though. Pregnant and clueless.”

“What’s to pity? If the Wells family hadn’t meddled, Ethan would’ve been with Sienna long ago. That Wells family is ruthless…”

Those were his closest friends. Before I could hear more, I backed away in tears.

I felt weak all over. I couldn’t believe he’d been secretly supporting Sienna all along.

Sienna—Ethan’s first love. She vanished after their breakup five years ago. But now I knew—it wasn’t really over. It never had been.

I waited outside the KTV until midnight. The crowd thinned, but there was still no sign of him. His phone was off. I returned to the place we once called home, hollowed out and heartbroken.

A doll near the door tripped me. It was a global limited edition that he had waited in line a whole day and night to get for me. I picked it up and threw it in disgust.

I didn’t expect it to smash right into our wedding photo in the living room. The one we took back when he agreed to marry me.

The glass shattered, and dozens of plane tickets and receipts fell out from behind the frame.

After I picked them up one by one, they turned out to be proof that Ethan had been winning and dining with Sienna.

It turned out that on my birthday a few months ago, he had taken Sienna to the beach. I didn’t receive a single message from him until the following day.

The morning I found out I was pregnant, he left in a rush. I thought he was planning a surprise. But no—he had gone to celebrate Sienna’s birthday, and didn’t return until the next night, worn out.

My vision blurred, and my chest twisted sharply, like countless thorns stabbing into my heart. Tears filled my eyes as I quietly tore my side of the wedding photo.

Wiping my tears, I called a lawyer and drafted an agreement that same night.

“The baby’s already six months along, I’m afraid…”

“Lawyer Liu, please just do as I say. I’ve made up my mind.”

I tossed and turned all night, unable to sleep. At dawn, I had just prepared breakfast when I heard familiar footsteps outside.

The footsteps were oddly mixed, followed by laughter at the door. It was Ethan and Sienna.

“Nina, welcome home!” Ethan said warmly, taking Sienna’s luggage.

She smiled brightly, eyes scanning the room. “Why are there so many sunflowers? And the interior’s in my favorite Japanese style.”

“Of course. I remember everything you like,” he said, pointing to the sunflowers near the entryway.

He replaced them daily—even though I’m allergic to pollen. He always said flowers would lift my mood. Now I knew they weren’t for me. “And here’s your favorite—Rainbow Puppy.” He handed her a carefully wrapped gift.

Looking closer, I realized the doll was the same as the one he once gave me—but rarer.

She beamed, cradling the doll, nodding approvingly at the house’s decor. Then she pointed at the breakfast I had made, “Ethan cooked this for me?”

“Of course. You’ll be the lady of the house now. You can have whatever you want.” Their faces inched closer, their gestures intimate.

I clenched my fists and coughed loudly. Only then did they notice me.

“Where were you yesterday? And those photos—what’s going on?” I asked calmly.

Seeing my fury, Ethan replied casually, “Since you already know, there’s no point asking.”

Sienna stepped toward me with a smirk. A kiss mark peeked from her collar. “I took the photos. Ethan looked so good—I wanted to capture the moment.”

I trembled. We’d been together for years, and he’d never liked physical contact.

But since they returned, they’d held hands constantly, bodies always close—especially after the night before.

He led her to the dining table, ignoring me completely. I silently took the documents and placed them on the corner of the table.

“Why is there mango jam today? Nina’s allergic to mangoes...” Ethan frowned. “We’ll talk later. Eat first.”

Sienna wrinkled her nose. “The nanny’s cooking is so plain.” She got up to fetch corn soup, but “accidentally” spilled it on my thigh. I screamed in pain.

I shouted at her, but she curled up in his arms like a frightened child.

He gently consoled her, then shot me an impatient glare. “Can’t you even let her eat in peace? You’ve never tolerated Nina.”

“Nina, let’s go to your favorite restaurant.” He stood and reached for her hand.

“Wait. You haven’t signed this yet.” I winced from the burn, picked up the documents, and ran after him.

Irritated, he flipped straight to the last page and signed hastily. “Happy now? Let’s go.”

Without looking back, he led Sienna out. She paused at the door to flash me a smug smile.

“As for the baby, you already know what my mom wants. Once it’s born, you can leave. Everything you’ve eaten and used all these years—we’ll call it even,” Ethan said flatly before slamming the door.

I limped to the bathroom to wash the burn. My eyes blurred with tears as I gripped the agreement and dialed a number saved in my contacts for years.

“Does your promise still stand?”

“Of course. I can pick you up right now if you want,” came a deep, mysterious voice on the other end.

I said nothing. “I’ll come get you in a week, Miss Wells,” he added.

I soaked in the tub, trying to calm down, when a flurry of urgent calls broke the silence. It was my mother.

“Nina Wells, where are you? Your father… he jumped off a building…” Her voice cracked.

My eyes widened. I felt myself fall into a freezing abyss.
