Fiancé's Affair Unveiled Chapter 1

I sat cross-legged on the plush carpet of the bridal suite, my wedding vows spread before me like delicate petals. The words I'd written and rewritten a dozen times seemed perfect now—promises of devotion, of the love that had sustained me through five years with Sebastian. Tomorrow, I would stand before everyone we knew and pledge my heart to the man who already owned every piece of it.

The silk of my nightgown whispered against my skin as I reached for my pen, ready to add one final line about forever. That's when the screaming started.

Shrill, desperate cries echoed from the hallway, growing louder by the second. I froze, pen suspended over paper, my heart hammering against my ribs. The sound was raw, animalistic—like someone in genuine distress.

The door to my suite exploded open.

Kira Harrison burst through like a storm given human form, her dark hair wild around her face, mascara streaking down her cheeks in black rivers. In her right hand, she clutched a pair of silver scissors that caught the lamplight and threw it back in wicked gleams.

"It should be me!" she shrieked, her voice cracking with hysteria. "It should be MY dress, MY wedding, MY Sebastian!"

I scrambled backward, my vows scattering across the floor as she advanced on the garment bag hanging from the armoire. My custom-made wedding dress—months of fittings, thousands of dollars of French lace and hand-sewn pearls—hung defenseless behind the thin plastic.

"Kira, stop—" I started, but she was already raising the scissors.

"You don't deserve him!" Spittle flew from her lips as she spoke, her eyes wild and unfocused. "You never did! He's mine, he's always been mine, and tomorrow I'm going to—"

"Kira!"

Sebastian's voice cut through her tirade like a blade. He filled the doorway, his hair mussed from sleep, wearing only pajama pants. For a moment, relief flooded through me so completely I nearly sobbed. He was here. He would handle this. He would protect me, protect our wedding, protect everything we'd built together.

But Sebastian didn't look at me.

His eyes found Kira immediately, and something in his expression shifted—softened in a way that made my stomach clench. He stepped into the room, his movements careful, deliberate, like he was approaching a wounded animal.

"Hey, hey," he murmured, his voice taking on that gentle tone I thought was reserved only for me. "What's wrong? What happened?"

Kira's scissors trembled in her grip. "She's stealing you from me, Sebastian. She's taking you away and I can't—I won't let her—"

"Shh." He was close enough to touch her now, and he did—his hands coming up to frame her face with infinite tenderness. "No one's taking me anywhere. I'm right here."

I watched, frozen in place on the carpet, as my fiancé cradled his stepsister's face like she was something precious. Something fragile. Something that mattered more than the woman he was supposed to marry in twelve hours.

"I won't let anyone hurt you," he whispered to her, and the words hit me like physical blows. "You know that, right? I'll always protect you."

The scissors clattered to the floor.

Kira melted against him, her sobs muffled against his bare chest, and Sebastian's arms came around her like it was the most natural thing in the world. Like I wasn't even there. Like my terror, my confusion, my heartbreak were invisible.

"Sebastian?" My voice came out smaller than I intended, barely more than a breath.

He glanced at me over Kira's head, and for just a moment, I saw something flicker across his face—guilt, maybe, or recognition of how this must look. But it vanished as quickly as it came.

"I need to calm her down," he said, already guiding Kira toward the door. "She's having an episode. I'll be back in twenty minutes, okay? We'll talk then."

An episode. Like this was normal. Like his stepsister threatening to destroy my wedding dress was just another Tuesday night in the Harrison household.

"But Sebastian—"

"Twenty minutes, Thea. I promise."

And then they were gone, leaving me alone with my scattered vows and the metallic gleam of abandoned scissors on my carpet.

I waited. Sixty minutes crawled by like hours, each tick of the antique clock on the mantle echoing in the suffocating silence. I paced the length of the suite, my bare feet silent on the plush rug, my mind racing with explanations, excuses, reasons why my fiancé would choose to comfort the woman who had just terrorized me.

But deep down, in a place I'd been trying not to look for months, I already knew.

The hallway felt endless as I walked toward the guest room, my heart pounding so hard I was sure it would wake the entire hotel. The door was ajar, just a sliver of golden light spilling into the darkness.

I pressed my palm against the wood and pushed.

The scene before me shattered five years of my life in an instant.

Sebastian and Kira were in bed together, the sheets tangled around their bodies, her dark hair spread across his chest like a claim of ownership. This wasn't comfort. This wasn't an episode. This was betrayal in its most primal, undeniable form.

Sebastian's eyes met mine across the room, and I watched him scramble upright, panic replacing the satisfaction that had been written across his features moments before.

"Thea, wait—it's not what it looks like—"

But it was exactly what it looked like. And as Kira smiled at me from the rumpled sheets, her expression smug and victorious, I felt something inside me break so completely that I wondered if I'd ever be whole again.

I pulled my grandmother's ring from my finger—the engagement ring Sebastian had given me with such ceremony, such promises—and placed it quietly on the dresser.

"Thea, please, she was fragile, she needed—"

I turned and walked away, Sebastian's desperate explanations following me down the hall like ghosts. But I didn't shed a single tear. Not yet.

That would come later, when I was alone with the ruins of everything I'd believed in.
