Escaping My Toxic Husband and Claiming My Revenge Chapter 1

The mahogany door to David’s office was cracked open. The wet, unmistakable sound of skin slapping against skin spilled into the quiet hallway, followed by a breathless, high-pitched moan.

I pushed the door open.

Amber was bent backward across his executive desk, her tight pencil skirt shoved all the way up to her waist. David was wedged tightly between her bare thighs, his hips grinding against hers with a frantic, animalistic rhythm.

His suit jacket was gone. His large hands were rough, tearing at the buttons of her silk blouse until it parted, exposing her sheer lace bra.

He gripped her bare flesh, his thumbs rolling heavily over the fabric as he buried his face in her neck, leaving wet, bruising bites along her collarbone.

"David... ah," Amber gasped, her legs wrapping around his waist, her fingernails digging into his shoulders. "What if your wife walks in?"

"Forget her," David growled, his voice thick with lust. "She's clueless. She’ll never leave me."

He shoved his hand higher up her thigh, his fingers hooking the edge of her lace panties, pulling them aside.

Amber arched her spine, letting out a sharp cry of pleasure as he pressed himself flush against her.

They were completely consumed, until Amber met my gaze.

I cleared my throat. “I didn’t see anything. Don’t worry about me, my dear husband, but here, a gift for you and your mistress.”

I pulled a sleek, black box of premium condoms and a set of sheer, crimson lingerie from my designer bag, dropping them right onto the edge of his desk.

David froze.

This was the tenth time I had caught him cheating in the second year of our remarriage.

Amber let out a practiced, pathetic gasp. She buried her face in David’s chest, playing the frightened, delicate victim perfectly.

But I did not shed a single tear.

My voice was completely flat, devoid of any warmth or anger. “Continue. Sorry. I’ll come back later.”

I turned around and walked out, leaving the two of them in stunned, suffocating silence.

As soon as the heavy oak doors closed behind me, I pulled out my phone.

I dialed a secure, encrypted number.

“Ten million,” I said the moment the line connected.

“I want high-resolution photos and videos. Every hotel, every car ride, every single time he touches her. I want it undeniable. I want it enough to ruin him.”

“Understood, ma’am,” the private investigator replied.

I hung up and watched the elevator numbers descend.

David thought my silence was submission. He thought I had finally learned to be the obedient, blind wife who accepted her place as a mere decoration in his grand life.

He didn’t know that the woman who once loved him enough to die for him was already dead.

I didn’t care about his cheating because I didn’t love him anymore.

I only agreed to this remarriage for one reason.

My founding shares.

The company was something I built from nothing. I wrote the core business plans. I secured the first investors. I stayed awake for countless nights, pouring my life into what eventually became his empire.

But during our first divorce, he stole my shares through forged documents, hidden clauses, and dirty legal tricks.

I needed to be back on the inside to take back what was rightfully mine.

If he wanted to play around with his secretary while I dismantled his company from the inside out, that was his choice.

But I underestimated how ruthless David could be.

Three hours later, I was sitting in my apartment sorting through corporate files when my phone rang.

It was David.

“You psycho bitch,” his voice roared through the speaker, shaking with a terrifying rage. “Did you really think you could get away with this?”

Before I could even ask what he was talking about, the front door of my apartment was kicked open.

Wood splintered violently across the floor.

Four of David’s personal bodyguards stormed in.

They didn’t give me a chance to speak. They grabbed my arms, twisting them painfully behind my back, and dragged me out into the freezing night.

I was thrown into the back of a black SUV like a piece of garbage.

When the car finally slammed to a halt, we were at the emergency entrance of the city’s top private hospital.

The rain was pouring down in sheets, icy and biting. The flashing red and blue lights of the ambulances reflected off the wet pavement.

David was standing under the awning, his face pale and twisted with fury.

“Amber was hit by a car,” he spat.

He stepped out into the freezing rain and grabbed me by the throat, his fingers digging into my skin.

“A hit-and-run. She’s in the ICU.”

I choked, struggling to breathe. “I had nothing to do with that.”

“Liar!” He threw me to the ground.

My knees slammed into the unforgiving concrete. The freezing rain soaked through my thin clothes in seconds, chilling me to the bone.

“Kneel,” David ordered, his voice colder than the rain. “Kneel here and repent. Pray that she survives, or I swear to God I will make you wish you were dead.”

People passing by stopped to watch. Whispers and pointing fingers surrounded me.

In the past, I would have cried. I would have begged him to believe me, terrified of losing his affection.

But I kept my back straight.

I looked up at him, the icy water washing over my face, my eyes completely empty.

“I didn’t do it,” I said calmly. “And I will never apologize for something I didn’t do.”

David’s eyes darkened with a terrifying cruelty.

“Fine. If you won’t repent, I’ll find a place that will teach you how to beg.”

They drove me to the dark outskirts of the city, to a rundown, corrupt local precinct known for making problems disappear for the rich and powerful.

They threw me into a cell at the very end of the corridor.

The heavy iron door slammed shut, plunging me into absolute, suffocating darkness.

I couldn’t even see my own hands in front of my face.

Before my eyes could adjust, I heard the heavy, scraping shift of feet against the concrete.

A thick, calloused hand grabbed my hair, yanking me backward with brutal force.

I crashed to the floor. Then, the kicks started.

Several heavyset women surrounded me in the dark. Their heavy boots slammed into my ribs, my stomach, my back.

I curled into a tight ball, wrapping my arms around my head to protect my face.

I bit my lip until I tasted hot copper, refusing to give David the satisfaction of my cries, even if he wasn’t there to hear them.

The beating felt like it lasted for hours.

My body went numb. My breathing turned into shallow, ragged gasps. Every intake of air felt like shattered glass tearing through my chest.

Finally, the kicking stopped.

The women backed away, their heavy breathing echoing in the dark cell.

I lay on the cold, wet concrete, my blood mixing with the grime on the floor. I couldn’t move. I could barely keep my eyes open.

Then, the small viewing slot on the heavy iron door slid open with a sharp metallic screech. A cold, mocking voice echoed from the other side.

“Are you ready to confess to attempted murder?”
