Escaping Marriage: After My Fiancé Left, I was Free Chapter 1

1.

Bali, with flowers all around, presented an exceptionally lavish setting.

I was all decked out in this fancy diamond wedding gown that cost over ten million, clutching onto my bouquet like my life depended on it, just standing there feeling super awkward while waiting for my man, Otto Murray.

Ten minutes ago, during the ring exchange, Otto's phone rang.

A familiar female voice came through the speaker.

"Otto, the wind on the top floor is so strong, my chest feels so uncomfortable and suffocating. I want to jump."

Otto's mouth suddenly fell, abandoning me on stage, pacing anxiously under the vow light board, patiently comforting the person on the other end of the call.

I know her, Ivy Hall, Otto's patient.

I started dating Otto in our junior year.

By chance, I met the hunk of the medical school.

Otto was exceptionally handsome, his features refined but not enchanting, his posture upright, dressed in a white shirt and black trousers, exuding an academic aura.

He was more charming than any of the entertainment industry stars I had ever seen.

I was smitten and began to pursue him relentlessly.

As the young lady from Capital Circle, I gave up street racing, clubbing, removed my earrings, discarded my revealing outfits, started wearing little white dresses, straightened my curly hair, and even began attending early morning classes.

For a whole year, I forced myself to become his ideal type, and eventually, we got together.

Ivy, Otto's junior, was the one who was rejected most miserably among his many suitors.

Otto ignored her when she sent flowers during his speeches.

Otto ignored her when she gave him gifts on his birthday.

Otto once showed me their chat records, where Ivy always tried to flirt with him under the guise of asking for advice.

"Otto, I twisted my ankle, and I heard you are good at orthopedics. Can you help me rub it? It really hurts!"

But she sent a photo of her long and well-shaped legs in black stockings dangling by the bed.

She was coquettish and scheming.

Otto had rejected her countless times, until after his graduation, Ivy drugged him, stripped, and climbed into his bed.

Otto was infuriated, clenched his fists, and roared.

"Even if all the women in the world died, I wouldn't consider you."

Since then, Ivy disappeared for a while.

When she reappeared, it was in Otto's hospital.

Holding a severe depression diagnosis in her hand.

She had become Otto's patient, the psychiatrist.

3

Memories were interrupted.

Otto put away his phone and came back on stage.

The Bali wind was fresh, but Otto's forehead was dotted with fine sweat, his expression troubled, and his haute couture suit was tightly stretched.

The wedding guests were all influential figures from Capital Circle, the hall was silent, and all eyes were on me.

I signaled the host to continue, but Otto suddenly made a stopping gesture and placed the ring box on the plate.

"Alexa, I'm sorry. There's an emergency at the hospital. I have to go back to the country."

He looked at me with guilt, and after a moment of silence, he added.

"Anyway, we've already obtained the marriage certificate, so it doesn't matter if we skip the wedding ceremony."

Otto's voice was not loud but clearly reached my ears.

A dull pain hit my chest as I looked up and met his distracted gaze.

"Is it Ivy who is in trouble?"

Otto looked somewhat guilty, anxiously holding my hand.

"Ivy wants to jump off the building. The doctors and nurses can't persuade her; she says she only wants to see me."

"Let me call the police; they can save her."

I turned to grab my phone, but Otto pulled my wrist.

"No! She's a psychiatric patient and can't handle any stimulation."
