Chapter 7

AVA

I sat quietly on my bed, staring down at the black piece of paper. Many thoughts raced through my mind. I gently picked it and opened it with a trembling hand.

And just like my black box, the writings were written in gold ink, it was carefully written down like though someone in the Shakespearean era wrote it.

You have finally found your mate, and we rejoice with you. We hear that she is a half wolf and human as well. Although it is forbidden that a wolf's mate is a human but nevertheless, you must make her yours. The council has given you five days to return to the pack with your mate.

My hands trembled as I held the paper, staring at the gold written words.

Does it mean that he was here to take me back to his people. I paced round the room, unsure of what to do, do I tell mom? Caleb?

Okay, Caleb might not be the option right now, but mom, she might freak out.

I slumped on my bed, staring at the ceiling. I just wish this whole thing was a dream and I was gonna wake up pretty soon. I was already getting tired of the whole wolf stuff, but what if I wasn't really one, or mom was just being unnecessarily scared or something.

The ringing sound of my phone jotted my out. I checked the caller but it was an unknown number so I didn't answer it but then it kept on ringing and I decided to answer it.

“Hello?” I said into the phone but all I received was silence. Then the caller hung up.

Weird. I thought.

Just as I was about to drop it again, it rang again.

“Hello?” I answered again but this time around, I could hear heavy breathing.

“Who’s this?”

“Ava.” The caller said in a hoarse voice.

“Who are you?” my voice failing me, as I asked. But the person didn't reply back. Could it be Mr Logan, No, it can't be, right?

“Mr... Logan?” I said, my voice shaky.

“It's not him!” The caller said, his voice laced in anger. Then I heard trashing sounds before the line went dead.

I pondered deeply as I tried to figure out who could have called me. It can't be one of Caleb's trick. And speaking of the devil, I picked up the phone and answered his call.

“Hey.”

“You’ve got anything to do tonight?” He asked in a pleading voice.

“No, why?”

“Okay. So I found out about this midnight car racing event and I thinking if we should check it out?”

“That’s illegal right?”

“I know, but it's just for tonight please?” He pleaded, I had no other choice but to accept my best friend's plea.

“Fine.” I answered and hung up.

My mind still laced on who the weird caller could be, but why did he get angry when I mentioned Mr Logan's name.

I huffed out, I actually needed to go out and clear my head, the past few days have been so stressful. I lay back on my bed, clutching the black letter to my chest before drifting off to sleep.

UNKNOWN POV

“Why would she call his name?” I growled.

If she called his name, does it mean that he has already approached her. But why would Logan approach my mate. That cunning wolf, he better stay off my mate. Logan Moon, you had better be careful, I wasn't going to take it easy on him if anything should happen to my mate.

“Get me every information on Ava Reed and what she is doing right now?” I commanded my men.

If Logan is after my mate, then I need to step up my game.

I walked to my wine cellar, brought out a bottle of Dictador m-city golden cities wine. It is a special type of rum which I take whenever I want to calm my nerves.

I really want to feel my mates touch, I want to mark her and claim what's mine.

“Ava, just wait for me.” I muttered as I sipped on the wine.

AVA

“Woah.” I murmured as I stared round the racing center. The lights, the sports cars, and the people.

The smell of gasoline and smoke filled the ear, the sound of engines roared.

Of course there was something that had to make it illegal, the smoking and betting.

It wasn't easy slipping out of the house without mom knowing, the past days, she has been really strict. Giving me curfew and lectures.

I held tightly unto Caleb as we made our way through the crowd. We finally made it to the front row, right on time as they were about to begin the race.

“So how do we know who is gonna win, like if the other rider doesn't plan something?” I screamed through the noise, my face laced with curiosity.

“See that big screen over there?” he pointed at a big screen at the corner and I nodded. “That’s where we're gonna view the whole stuff.” He explained carefully.

The race began and the noises, it was pricking at my ear. It made it impossible for me to hear, I needed space. I tapped Caleb but he was so engrossed in the race so I slipped out. My legs began to tremble and my eyes felt heavy. It was like I was about to sleep but I didn't want to. I began to feel dizzy.

I couldn't hear what people were saying properly.

I tried touching someone but I tripped and fell down. No one seemed to care, I stood up again and sat on a bench close by, my head heavy like as if I had just drank a bottle of alcohol.

After some few minutes, I regained myself and stood up but just as I was about to take a step forward, I lost my balance and fell back. But my back didn't hit the ground, I slightly opened my eye, someone was staring directly at me. But my vision was blur, I couldn't make out who it was.

“You’re safe now, Ava.” I heard before loosing consciousness.

Chapter 8

AVA

I sat up on the bed as I stretched myself, trying to adjust myself to the environment. I stared round the huge room, trying to figure out where I was and all that happened. I was trying to get down from the huge bed when the door swung open and two men in suit and a lady walked in.

“Get her ready!” One of the men told the lady and she nodded. The lady walked over to me and tried to touch me but I slapped her hand away.

“Don’t you dare touch me.” I warned, pointing my finger at her. “Who the hell are you guys?”

“Boss will explain everything to you, so comply with the instructions and you'll be safe.” The man said again and I let out a chuckle.

“You’ve got to joking right?” the man continued to stare at me without any words.

“You actually want me to sit still and you do shit on me, common that's not how it works. S o you had better give me the right explanation that I need.” I screamed as I stared at the door, calculating the distance between where I stood and the door. I was gonna make a run for it.

I ran over to the other side of the bed, picked up my phone and held it up to their faces.

“If you won’t let me leave or explain who you are, I'm going to call the cops and trust me they are gonna be here so fast.”

“You wouldn't want to do that.” the man said still with a strong face. I have my chances now. And with that, I ran to the door, opened and ran through the hallway.

The men were running behind me but surprisingly I was way faster than them. I continued to run until I mistakenly tripped down the stairs, hurting my ankle.

I growled in pain as I tried to stand up but it I found myself falling down again. The pain was unbearable, I shut my eyes, trying to control myself.

“You really are stubborn, aren't you?” It was the same voice I heard yesterday at the racing center, the very one that called me yesterday.

My body stiffened, tiny goosebumps had already appeared on my skin. I was trying to open my eyes but my fears was betraying me. Then I felt him crouch infront of me, he touched my ankle, “You’re not going to open your eyes yet?” he asked and I shivered.

I slowly lifted my eyelids and I was met with the most prettiest set of eyes. A pair of Light brown eyes with long eyelashes were staring directly at my face. I shifted back to get a clearer view of the stranger and who I saw made my breath to seize. I placed my hand on my chest as my lips trembled.

“Xa... Xavier Blackwood.” I stuttered and he smiled.

“You remembered,” he continued to smile, “It’s nice to finally meet you again Ava.”

He stood up and damn he was so freaking tall. He stretched out his hands to me but I was hesitant to take it.

“I don't bite Ava.”

I still wasn't going to take the hand, so I helped myself up and heard him chuckle.

“You really gave my men a good run.” he commented as he walked upto a couch and sat on it. It was then that I realised that I had already reached the living room.

I tried to speak but no words came forth.

“Ava?” I heard but when I looked up, he wasn't staring at me. I limped over to another couch and sat on it.

“Ava?” the voice called again and when I looked up, he was grinning at me.

“Di.. did you just call me?” I stuttered.

“Yes.” He smiled, “Through the mind.”

I stared up at him immediately with my eyes wide open.

“How is that possible?”

“It’s either you're pretending or you don't want to believe it yet.” he said still grinning.

“What do you mean?”

“Ava,” he called calmly as he faced me, “We both know that you're a werewolf so things like that are common.”

My whole body shivered from what he had just said, how did he know that I was a wolf.”

“Because I'm one too.” He answered.

The hairs on my skin rose, my face went pale.

I was staring at my biggest celebrity crush, New York's sweetheart and right now, he is telling me that he was a wolf, how possible was that.

“Ava?” he called walking towards me. I slowly shifted from where I sat.

“You felt the spark, the day we met at the signing event right?” he continued, “we are mated Ava.” he said and I didn't know what happened but I just wanted to go home. Just wanted to get home to my mom.

“Take me home.” I murmured, my eyelids heavy. The tears I was trying to hold back was now making its way down my face.

He tried to touch me but I shifted away from him. “Take me home, please.” I pleaded.

“Ava, calm down.”

“Just take me home.” I screamed at him.

“Mom.” I called out, running into her arms. Mom held me tightly like as if I had been gone for ages.

“You’re home now baby.” she whispered into my ears as she patted my back.

We stayed in that position for some few minutes before we disengaged. She sat me down on the couch and went into the kitchen. Seconds later, she came out with a glass of strawberry drink.

“Here.” I collected it and drank all the contents in one gulp. She sat beside me as she continued to stroke my hair.

“Mom I'm sorry.” I whispered through tears, my voice were breaking. Mom only smiled at me as I continued.

“I just needed to clear off my head, I promise I didn't want to go against your rules.” I sniffed.

“You have to go get ready for school, you're in your final year and we wouldn't want anything to disrupt you, go get ready for class. We have a lot to talk about when you're back from school.” She smiled at me again, motioning for me to go to my room. I nodded my head and walked into my room.

I stood in the shower, letting the cold water pour down into my skin. The memories of what Xavier had told me came flooding back. He was my mate. I stared at the two marks on my body.

“Fuck you prophecy.” I cursed at the goddam prophecy mom talked about. But how was it possible that I had being fated to two wolfs, could Xavier or Logan be lying?

“No they're not.” someone said but I swear, I was alone in the shower.

“Mom?” I called out but got no response.

I stepped out of the shower and wrapped the towel round my body. I came into my room but no one was there.

I was beginning to hear things.

I walked over to my phone and noticed the calls I had. Some were from mom the rest was from Caleb.

Then the messages from Caleb. I smiled as I read them. I was about to keep the phone when another message got me. It was from an unknown number, my hands trembled as I read the message.

“Stay away from Xavier, he is not what he seems to be.”

Chapter 9

AVA

I sat on my usual spot in geometry class, I watched the teacher's lips move but I wasn't paying attention to what she was teaching. I stared down at my phone which was in between my book, the message on it very clear.

“Stay away from Xavier, he is not what he seems.”

The words rang again in my ear. Whoever sent this, knew I was with Xavier yesterday and I could swear I never told anyone about my secret. Does it mean I was being watched?, I questioned myself but I couldn't find a perfect answer.

“Ava can you hear me?” I lifted up my head and looked around, someone was calling but where?

“If you can hear me Ava, meet me at the old school building, third floor. And come alone.” The voice said, it's voice laced with command.

If the person has spoken to me through the mind, does it mean that the person is also a wolf, could be Xavier?

I had lots of questions that needed to be answered and there was someone who was willing to explain.

I took deep breaths, and gently stood up.

“Yes, Ava?” The teacher asked.

“Can I use the restroom?”

“Sure.” That was the only answer I needed before I scurried out of the classroom, trying hard not to seem suspicious.

_______________

I stood, staring at the big abandoned school building. There were many stories surrounding the old building but no one knew the exact reason why it was abandoned but I could easily guess that since they have a new building, they had to move there.

I rubbed my sweaty palms against eachother and took the first step, then the second and before I knew it, I was standing inside the building. The smell of old wood and rusted iron filled the air.

I walked up to the third floor as quietly as possible not to make any noise that would alert the security.

I stared around the place, but there was no one there.

“Hello?” I called but it came out as a whisper.

First, I heard heavy footsteps and then the scent hit my nose almost too hard.

Basil.

I've perceived the scent somewhere but I couldn't place my head on where I've scented it.

“Hello Ava.” I tilted my head almost immediately at the sound of the voice and almost lost myself.

Mr. Logan.

He stood tall and handsome with a perfectly sculptured face, he had a huge smile plastered on his face.

“M...Mr Logan.” I whispered and his smile widened.

He began to walk towards me with gentle strides, his gaze only on me.

He sculpted my face into his palm and stared so hard that I could feel my inner self boiling.

“You reek of him.” He left my face and stood properly, his gaze never leaving me.

I really wanted to say something but I could only open my mouth but nothing would come out.

“Ava.” He called and I could only hum a response. “You don't need to be scared of your mate you know?”

I lifted my face to meet his, my eyes popping out from it's socket.

“I knew you were my mate Ava and that was why I came running to you.” his voice low but intimate. “I know you felt it too?”

Why was this man talking so softly to me, why was he so handsome. Yes I felt he was my mate but I couldn't just accept it. I didn't want to accept the fact that I was a fucking werewolf.

I heard him chuckle and I stared at him, my brows twitched.

“You’re really keeping your Alpha waiting Ava.” He called in a very deep husky voice and I was really melting at his words.

“How do I believe you?” I asked, finally finding my voice.

He leaned closer, almost too close that I could feel his breath on me.

“You know it.” he whispered and pulled back, his hands in his pocket.

“You should stay away from Xavier.” He warned, his voice coming out a little bit sharp. “I hate sharing what's mine.”

I wanted to tell him that I was fated to Xavier as well but I don't know much about this man and I can't just go about trusting him.

He walked towards me again, cuppled my chin, “I’ll see you again.” He planted a light kiss on my forehead before disappearing.

I stood still, unable to process what had just happened. My legs moved shakily as I tried to walk, I sat down on the bare floor.

Logan Moon just kissed me. I whispered and touched my forehead, I felt a smile appearing on my face.

______________

School was over and I was searching for Caleb. I didn't come back to class after my encounter with Logan, I had stayed back at the building but when I got out, I realised that school was over and the building was almost empty. I dialed Caleb's line again and he answered.

“Where the hell are you?” I questioned, my voice rising.

“Home.” he answered, almost too casually.

“What do you mean home, Caleb I'm still at school?” I screamed into my phone.

“I texted you and also called but you weren't going through so I left.”

I hung up on the phone and stared at his messages.

I had really missed his messages and now, I'll be walking home, alone.

I walked through the streets, wondering how I had missed his messages and it dawned on me that I had switched off my phone after leaving the class. I sighed and continued walking.

As I curved into the lonely street, I noticed that I was being followed. I hastened my steps but it seems the stranger was on it too.

I began to run, I ran so fast but the stranger was running behind me. I continued to run and didn't see a speeding truck ahead and just as it was about to hit me, I felt myself being lifted off the ground.

I bent down after the stranger had dropped on me, I was trying to catch my breath and when I looked to see who my saviour was, I stood, my mouth parted open. Beads of sweat began to form on my head.

“You really are a fast runner.” He smiled.

Xavier had been the one following me and now he had just saved me. I shifted away from him and he twitched his brows.

“Are you alright?” his voice calm as he spoke.

“Why are you here?” I asked, my voice shaking. I was still trying to breathe properly.

“We need to talk, Ava.”
