Divorced By My Billionaire Husband: I Returned Unstoppable Chapter 1

The rain began before sunset.

By the time night settled over the city, the storm had turned violent. Thunder rolled across the sky, and the cold rain struck the tall glass windows of the Kingsley mansion like tiny bullets.

Inside the mansion, everything was quiet.

Too quiet.

Sophia Carter stood in the center of the luxurious living room, her slender fingers gripping the strap of her handbag tightly. Her eyes were fixed on the man sitting across from her.

Alexander Kingsley.

Her husband.

Or perhaps... not for much longer.

He sat calmly on the leather sofa, dressed in a perfectly tailored black suit. His posture was straight, his expression cold and unreadable.

Sophia had once thought his calmness was attractive. Powerful.

But tonight, it felt terrifying.

On the glass table between them lay a single document.

Sophia didn't need to read the bold letters at the top again.

She already knew what it said.

Divorce Agreement.

Her heart felt heavy, yet strangely hollow.

Three years.

Three years of marriage.

Three years of trying to be the perfect wife for a man who never truly looked at her.

Finally, she gathered enough courage to speak.

"Alexander..."

Her voice came out softer than she expected.

He didn't respond immediately.

Instead, he slowly lifted his gaze from the tablet in his hands and looked at her.

His eyes were dark, sharp, and completely emotionless.

"Yes."

Sophia swallowed.

"Why?"

The word was simple, but it carried the weight of all the questions she had been holding inside her heart.

Alexander placed the tablet aside and leaned back against the sofa.

"You know why."

Sophia shook her head.

"No," she whispered. "I don't."

Without saying another word, Alexander reached for a brown envelope on the table. He slid a photograph across the glass surface toward her.

"Look at it."

Sophia hesitated before picking it up.

The moment her eyes landed on the image, her breath caught in her throat.

The photograph showed her entering a hotel building with a tall man standing beside her.

Her fingers trembled slightly.

"This..." she said quietly.

Alexander's voice was cold.

"You were very careful. Unfortunately, not careful enough."

Sophia lifted her head quickly.

"You think I cheated on you?"

Alexander didn't answer.

His silence was enough.

Pain stabbed through her chest.

"That man is the director of the charity foundation I've been working with," she explained quickly. "We had a meeting that day about the children's hospital donation-"

"I'm not interested."

The words cut through her explanation like a knife.

Sophia fell silent.

Alexander stood up and walked slowly toward the large window overlooking the stormy city.

His tall figure looked even colder against the flashes of lightning.

"For three years," he said calmly, "I gave you the Kingsley name."

Sophia's heart tightened.

"And this is how you repay me?"

She stared at his back, disbelief filling her eyes.

"You never trusted me in the first place," she said softly.

Alexander turned around.

His sharp gaze locked onto hers.

"Trust?"

He let out a small, humorless laugh.

"Sophia, do you really think this marriage was built on trust?"

The words hit harder than she expected.

Sophia felt her chest tighten painfully.

Of course she knew.

Their marriage had never been about love.

Three years ago, Alexander's grandfather had arranged the marriage to stabilize the Kingsley family company during a financial crisis.

Sophia had agreed because...

Because she loved Alexander.

Even if he never loved her back.

For three years she stayed by his side quietly.

She managed charity events.

She supported his business dinners.

She endured the whispers of socialites who called her a "lucky nobody."

She believed that one day...

Maybe one day...

Alexander might see her.

But tonight she finally understood something.

He never would.

Sophia slowly placed the photograph back on the table.

"So that's it?" she asked quietly.

Alexander walked back to the sofa and picked up the divorce document.

"Sign it."

The pen lay beside the papers.

Sophia stared at it.

Outside, thunder roared again.

For a long moment, neither of them spoke.

Then Sophia asked one last question.

"Is this because Isabella is back?"

For the first time that night, Alexander's expression changed slightly.

Isabella Laurent.

The woman he had loved before their marriage.

Sophia had heard the rumors earlier that week.

Isabella had returned to the city.

Alexander didn't confirm it.

But he didn't deny it either.

That silence was the answer.

Sophia felt something inside her heart finally break.

She picked up the pen.

Alexander watched her carefully.

"You're surprisingly calm," he said.

Sophia gave a faint smile.

"Should I beg you to stay?"

He said nothing.

Her smile faded.

"I loved you, Alexander."

The confession hung quietly in the room.

Alexander's expression remained unchanged.

Sophia looked down at the paper and signed her name.

Sophia Carter.

As Sophia signed the divorce papers, her hand trembled slightly.

Alexander watched her quietly from across the table.

For a brief moment, something flickered in his dark eyes  hesitation.

But it disappeared as quickly as it came.

Pride was stronger than regret.

"This is the best decision for both of us," he said coldly.

Sophia didn't reply.

But neither of them realised that this moment would become the biggest mistake of Alexander Kingsley's life.

The moment the ink dried, the marriage officially ended.

Three years of love.

Gone in seconds.

Sophia placed the pen back on the table.

Then she slowly removed the diamond wedding ring from her finger.

She stared at it for a moment.

Three years ago, when Alexander placed it on her hand, she thought it meant forever.

Now it meant nothing.

She set the ring beside the divorce papers.

The soft metallic sound echoed in the silent room.

Sophia picked up her small suitcase.

She had packed it earlier.

Perhaps a part of her already knew this moment would come.

As she walked toward the door, Alexander spoke again.

"You can keep the apartment downtown."

Sophia stopped.

"That's your compensation."

She turned back and looked at him.

Her eyes were calm now.

"No need."

Alexander frowned slightly.

"I don't want anything from you."

Then she added quietly,

"Not anymore."

Sophia opened the door.

Cold rain and wind rushed inside.

Before stepping out, she looked at him one last time.

"Goodbye, Alexander Kingsley."

The door closed behind her.

Inside the mansion, silence returned.

Alexander stared at the empty doorway.

Something about the way she left felt... different.

But he quickly pushed the thought aside.

Meanwhile, outside the gates of the mansion...

A black luxury car slowly stopped beside Sophia.

The driver hurried out and opened an umbrella above her head.

"Miss Carter," the man said respectfully.

"Your brother has been waiting."

Sophia looked at the car.

Her brother.

Daniel Carter.

One of the most powerful businessmen in the country.

Inside the car, Daniel watched his younger sister quietly.

His eyes darkened when he saw the suitcase in her hand.

"Did he divorce you?"

Sophia nodded once.

Daniel's jaw tightened.

"Good."

Sophia blinked in surprise.

Daniel opened the car door.

"Because now," he said calmly,

"the Kingsley family will finally understand..."

"...what they just lost."

Sophia stepped into the car.

The door closed.

And the car drove away into the storm.

Neither Sophia nor Alexander knew it yet.

But the moment she left that mansion...

The balance of power in the entire city had already begun to change.

And one day very soon

Sophia Carter would return.

Not as Alexander's wife.

But as a woman powerful enough...

To make a billionaire regret everything.
