After Becoming the CEO, My Girlfriend Ran Away With Someone Else Chapter 1

After finally being acknowledged by my wealthy parents, I was involved in a major car accident.

I called my girlfriend, only to have her tell me she had cheated and then block my phone number.

She said, “You’ve got no money and no influence. Even in death, you can’t measure up to them. Well, now you’re gone, maybe you’ll come back better in the next life. We can try again then.”

Later, I became the CEO of a conglomerate, but unfortunately, my ex-girlfriend and her lover were both in the company.

I’m Carson Reid, 28, the CEO of a publicly traded company.

Three months ago, I was an ordinary employee when my wealthy parents suddenly appeared, claiming I was their long-lost son.

The hospital completed the paternity test, and the results confirmed that they were indeed my biological parents.

Just as I was excited to share this news with my girlfriend Blair Warren, I got into a car accident.

I was rushed to the hospital due to severe blood loss, my life hanging by a thread.

I feared I wouldn’t have a chance to say goodbye to the woman I loved for years and begged the nurse to contact Blair.

After numerous failed attempts, the last call finally got through.

But instead of Blair, a stranger answered.

“Who’s this?”

The nurse put the call on speaker and explained my situation.

A familiar voice, yet laced with impatience, eventually came on the line.

“Carson, let’s break up. I have a new boyfriend now.”

Summoning my remaining strength, I asked the question I needed to know.

“Why?”

Blair scoffed. “Why? You’ve got no money and no influence. Even in death, you can’t measure up to them. Well, now you’re gone, maybe you’ll come back better in the next life. We can try again then.”

As soon as she finished, she hung up, and my number was blocked.

I couldn’t believe my once-sweet girlfriend had betrayed me.

Fueled by anger and betrayal, I eventually lost consciousness.

I woke up a week later.

The nurse told me that they had contacted my biological parents that day. My parents rushed to the hospital as soon as they were notified and signed the consent forms for the emergency surgery.

The doctors had spent the entire night saving me from the brink of death.

I spent nearly two months in the hospital, with my parents insisting on multiple check-ups before allowing me to leave.

They brought me to the Reid family mansion, which marked my first encounter with an upper-class lifestyle.

The opulence of the mansion was overwhelming, and when the staff addressed me as “Young Master,” I realized I wasn’t dreaming.

The Reid family, engaged in the jewelry business, had made their mark in the industry over the years.

After spending about a month at home, I had more or less adjusted to this new life.

One day, my dad suddenly decided it was time for me to take over the family business for some hands-on experience and even arranged for a contact person there to assist me.

Dressed in a suit, I looked in the mirror and couldn’t help but think, “Clothes make the man.” I looked sharp!

The driver took me to the company, and as soon as I stepped out of the car, a well-shaped woman was waiting for me.

Her eyes lit up upon seeing me. Approaching with a smile, she then introduced herself.

“Mr. Reid, hi. I’m Lisa Andrews. I’ll be assisting you with getting acquainted with the company.”

Out of courtesy, I responded warmly.

“Hello, Lisa. Just call me Carson. I appreciate your help.”

Lisa Andrews had been with the company for over ten years and had risen to the position of General Manager through her exceptional abilities.

Before I left, my father had specifically advised me to learn from her.

After exchanging pleasantries, Lisa guided me through the company.

My identity was kept confidential within the company, with only a notification that a new successor would be arriving soon.

As people greeted Lisa, they cast curious glances at me, and some even speculated.

“Lisa, who’s this handsome young man?”

“Is he Lisa’s new boyfriend?”

“He’s really good-looking.”

I blushed slightly at the attention, feeling a bit self-conscious.

Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Lisa was indeed quite attractive herself – fair-skinned and tall with long legs.

Lisa responded with a calm smile, handling the situation gracefully.

“Stop gossiping. You’ll find out who he is soon enough.”

People exchanged knowing looks, apparently misunderstanding the situation.

Rumors soon spread about the General Manager’s new, handsome boyfriend.

Lisa and I arrived at the office, and after a brief tour, someone came to call Lisa.

“Mr. Reid, I’m sorry, but I have some urgent matters to attend to. Please wait here for a moment,” said Lisa.

I nodded. “No problem. You go ahead. I’ll take a look around the office.”

Lisa apologized and left.

Feeling a bit stifled in the office, I decided to take a walk.

To my surprise, I ran into an old acquaintance.

My ex-girlfriend Blair, who had blocked me and cheated on me three months ago, was here.

What a coincidence.

Blair was berating an employee, her tone harsh.

“Are you brainless or something? You can’t even handle this simple task. You’re worse than useless! Just quit and go do something else!”

Around her, people whispered.

“Look, she’s at it again. She’s so smug after getting close to the higher-ups.”

“Ever since she came, the HR department has been a mess.”

“Last time, an intern was berated to tears and didn’t come back the next day.”

After she finished her tirade, she glanced up and locked eyes with me.

I saw a fleeting look of shock in her eyes.

Blair’s voice was filled with disbelief.

“Carson? You’re not dead? How did you end up here?”

I walked slowly towards her, a cold smile on my face.

“Yes, I survived. Was that disappointing for you?”

Blair looked me up and down with disdain.

“Are you here for an interview? Don’t bother; we won’t be hiring you.”

I raised an eyebrow, realizing she thought I was here to apply for a job. Her attitude suggested she held a high position here.

Deciding to play along, I replied, “Why? I’ve come all this way. Doesn’t your company owe me an explanation? Or is this your usual practice?”

Blair gave me a look of disgust.

“I said we’re not hiring you. I’m in charge of HR here, and don’t think I don’t know your intentions, Carson. We’ve broken up. Don’t be a pathetic loser chasing after me. It’s disgusting and only makes me look down on you more.”

Her words stunned those around us. They whispered.

“This is so dramatic!”

“Wow, the handsome guy is her ex! He even came to the company.”

“Does Lisa know about this?”

I was taken aback by Blair’s complete change and her disdainful attitude.

I grew up in an orphanage, relying on government subsidies and part-time jobs to pay for college.

I met Blair at university, and her vibrant, cheerful personality was like a ray of sunshine in the cold winter to me.

At that time, I never dared to hope for much, so I worked hard to become better and more deserving of her.

Eventually, I confessed my feelings before graduation, and we got together.

After graduation, we rented a small apartment and lived together. During our relationship, I believed I never mistreated her, taking up all the chores and cooking without complaints.

Before the accident, we had a huge argument about the wedding expenses.

Blair’s family was dissatisfied with my lack of wealth and family background. They demanded an exorbitant amount for the wedding costs, which felt like an impossible sum to me.

My salary and performance bonuses barely amounted to ten thousand a month, and with the long hours and constant overtime, my mental state was deteriorating. I was barely sleeping or eating properly, and my exhaustion was visibly apparent.

Despite this, Blair didn’t show any concern and treated me with cold indifference.

After finally reuniting with my wealthy parents, I was eager to share the good news with Blair, hoping to resolve the wedding expenses issue. But just as I was crossing the street to go home and tell her, a car speeding through a red light struck me.

But thanks to this accident, it made me see Blair’s true colors.

“Blair, be honest with yourself. I’ve never mistreated you. You cheated, blocked me, and even cursed me to die. I really want to see which lucky guy you ended up with.”

Blair’s expression changed drastically, and she shouted angrily.

“What the hell are you talking about? Who’s cheating? You were the one who cheated first! Stop slandering me, or I might just sue you for defamation!”

Hearing that, I almost laughed in disbelief. She really had the nerve to deny it.

Some bystanders misunderstood and thought I was the one who cheated.

“This guy seems handsome, but how could he do such a thing?”

“Turns out he’s just some guy who hooked up with Lisa and ditched his ex.”

“Total scumbag! I need to tell Lisa so she doesn’t get deceived by him!”

Seeing the public side with her, Blair became even more arrogant.

“Carson, I need to make things clear. I don’t have feelings for you anymore, so don’t bother reaching out. It’s completely over between us. If you keep trying to contact me, don’t say I didn’t warn you.”

As she finished speaking, two security guards approached me.

“Sir, please leave immediately and don’t disrupt our business.”

I smirked. “Is this how you guys do things here in this company?”

“Shut up and leave! Get out now!”

When I refused to move, one guard, clearly irritated, grabbed my collar and started to drag me out.

“Stop! What’s going on here?!” Lisa arrived, looking shocked.

“This guy is the scumbag who dumped Blair. Don’t let him deceive you, Lisa.”

“Yeah, Lisa, this pretty boy doesn’t look like a good catch at all.”

Lisa glanced at Blair, who was now pretending to be pitiful.

“Lisa, Carson is my ex. He cheated and now is trying to accuse me that I was the one who cheated. I don’t know how he found me here.”

“It was me who brought him here. Is there a problem? Do you know who he is?” Lisa said.
