Chapter 18

CHAPTER 18 - Mark By FiRE

"Your destiny is not a choice. It's a burn that never fades."

The moment Kael's teeth grazed her skin, everything inside Lyra changed.

At first it was warmth-soft, tingling, almost gentle.

Then the fire hit.

It tore through her veins like molten silver, rushing from her neck to her chest, down her arms, deep into her bones. Her knees buckled, and the world spun as a sharp cry escaped her lips.

Kael caught her before she hit the floor.

His arms wrapped around her tightly, his heart pounding fast against her cheek. Every muscle in his body was tense, his breathing uneven.

"Lyra," he whispered urgently, brushing his thumb across her cheek.

"Stay with me."

Her fingers clutched his shirt, trembling violently.

"Kael... what's happening to me?"

Her voice was faint, strangled.

The mark on her neck pulsed again-hard.

A piercing wave of heat slashed through her chest, and Lyra gasped, bending forward as the world blurred.

Kael tilted her chin, making her look at him.

"It's the Mark," he said. "The bond seal. I warned you it was powerful."

"You said it wouldn't hurt..." she breathed.

"I said I would protect you from the worst of it," he answered.

His golden eyes flickered darkly.

"But I can't stop the transformation."

Another wave hit.

Lyra cried out, clutching her chest as cracks of silver light raced under her skin like lightning.

Her wolf roared inside her, clawing to break free.

Kael lifted her effortlessly and carried her to the bed.

Each step he took made her vision shake.

Her heartbeat raced so fast it felt like it might burst.

He laid her gently on the sheets, but she curled into herself, shaking.

Kael hovered above her, hands moving over her body, searching for the source of her agony.

"Lyra, look at me."

She forced her eyes open.

"I can take the pain," Kael said, voice low, intense.

"But I need you to trust me."

"I do," she whispered-without hesitation.

Kael pressed his palm over her heart.

Heat shot through her-not burning this time, but deep and steady like a second heartbeat syncing with hers.

Her back arched as silver light poured from her chest, forming glowing lines that spread to her throat, her arms, her wrists.

Kael's eyes widened.

"It's not just a mark," he murmured. "You're... awakening."

The door burst open.

Milo rushed in-panicked, breathless-then froze when he saw Lyra glowing like living moonfire.

"Ancestors..." Milo whispered. "Alpha-she's not just being marked. She's ascending."

Lyra's vision flickered.

Her ears filled with a low, wild howl-her own wolf, rising higher and stronger than ever before.

Kael turned sharply to Milo.

"Who else felt this?"

"Everyone," Milo admitted. "The entire pack is on edge. They can sense her power."

Kael swore under his breath.

"We finish this now-before anyone comes looking."

Lyra's voice trembled.

"What... what am I becoming?"

Kael turned back to her slowly.

He knelt beside her, leaning close so she could hear him through the storm raging inside her.

His breath brushed her cheek.

His eyes, glowing crimson gold, locked with hers.

"The one thing the High Alpha fears."

His voice was soft. Deadly soft.

"The one thing that can end him."

Silver fire erupted across her skin.

Kael grabbed her shoulders, holding her down gently but firmly as her body lifted off the bed.

Her hair floated around her like a halo.

Light pulsed beneath her skin-each heartbeat brighter than the last.

Milo shielded his eyes.

"Kael, she's becoming-"

"I know," Kael growled.

Lyra gasped as her wolf surged upward, stronger than anything she'd felt in her life.

She felt every heartbeat in the forest.

Every whisper of the moon.

Every thread of Kael's soul tied to hers.

Her body settled back onto the bed, breathing heavy, chest rising and falling fast.

Kael pressed his hand to her cheek.

"Lyra," he whispered, voice breaking for the first time.

"Come back to me."

Her eyes snapped open-glowing pure silver.

When she spoke, her voice overlapped with the deep, resonant rumble of her wolf.

"Kael... I feel everything."

He stared at her-half in awe, half in dread.

"Then listen carefully, Lyra," he said, leaning closer.

"Because from this moment on... your life is no longer your own."

Her heart thudded.

"Why?"

Kael's expression darkened, but not with fear-

with something like acceptance.

"Because you," he breathed, "are the Silverblood Mate."

The mark on her neck flared once more-brilliant, blinding, final.

Then it faded into a soft, steady glow.

Lyra collapsed forward, falling into Kael's chest.

He wrapped his arms around her, grounding her shaking body with his warmth.

Milo exhaled shakily.

"Alpha... what now?"

Kael didn't look away from Lyra.

Now his voice was pure steel.

"Now we prepare."

He lifted Lyra gently, holding her close.

"Because the High Alpha will come for her."

He glanced toward the window where moonlight pooled on the floor.

"And he will burn the world to ash before he lets a Silverblood Mate live."

🐺CHAPTER 19 - THE PROPHECY UNLEASHED

"A mate of silver blood shall rise... and the world will tremble."

The night outside ShadowFang Fortress was unnaturally still.

Not quiet-

watching.

Kael carried Lyra through the dim halls, her body still trembling from the transformation. Milo followed closely behind, tense, glancing over his shoulder every few seconds.

Whispers rose from the warriors as they passed.

Some bowed.

Some backed away.

Some stared at Lyra with wide, fearful eyes.

Kael ignored them all.

He pushed open the door to the war chamber with his shoulder, not wanting to loosen his grip on Lyra even for a second.

The torches flickered violently the moment they entered, like the fire itself recognized her.

Kael set her down in the massive chair beside his own-

the Alpha's seat.

Lyra blinked, dazed.

"Why here?"

"Because," Kael said, placing a hand on her shoulder,

"you need to hear the truth."

Milo shut the door behind them.

Kael reached into a locked chest near the wall.

He removed an ancient scroll-

old enough that the edges were frayed and almost turned to dust.

Lyra frowned as he unrolled it on the table.

"Is that...?"

"One of the forbidden prophecies," Milo answered quietly.

"The High Alpha burned the others. This is the only surviving piece."

Kael's jaw clenched.

"The one he fears most."

Lyra's throat tightened as she leaned forward.

Symbols drawn in old werewolf blood pulsed faintly, reacting to her presence.

Kael placed his palm beside the scroll, anchoring her with his warmth.

He read aloud.

"When the moon bleeds silver,

and the dark wolf rises,

a mate of fire and light shall break the chains of the cursed."

The air in the room thickened.

Lyra swallowed.

"What does that mean?"

Kael looked directly at her.

"It means you."

A chill ran down her spine.

"No. That can't be-"

Milo stepped forward.

"It gets worse."

Kael continued reading.

"Born with the mark of the lost line,

she shall bind with the Alpha of shadows.

Together they rise...

and together they fall."

Lyra froze.

Kael's hand curled into a fist on the table.

"Your transformation," he said quietly.

"The silver in your veins. Your mark. Your connection to me."

He lifted his eyes to hers-red, gold, and something softer hidden beneath.

"You are the Silverblood Mate. The one the prophecy warned of."

Lyra looked away, breath catching in her throat.

"I didn't ask for this. I don't want power. I don't want-"

"To be hunted?" Milo finished grimly.

"To be feared? To be the High Alpha's target?"

Lyra closed her eyes.

Her wolf whispered inside her:

We were born for this.

But she wasn't ready to believe it.

Not yet.

Kael moved closer, lifting her chin gently.

"Look at me."

Lyra opened her eyes.

"You are not alone in this," Kael said.

"You are tied to me-my life, my soul, my fate."

He brushed his thumb over her cheek.

"And I will kill anyone who tries to take you."

Her heart stuttered.

But before she could respond-

A violent howl rang from the courtyard below.

Then another.

Then dozens.

Kael snapped to his feet.

Milo rushed to the window and swore.

"Alpha-wolves at the border!"

Kael moved behind Lyra and placed a hand on her shoulder.

His voice was steady but urgent.

"Lyra, stay behind me. No matter what."

Another howl-closer this time. Deeper.

Powerful.

And then-

BOOM.

The fortress shook as something massive slammed into the outer walls.

Lyra's chest tightened.

"Kael... what is that?"

He didn't answer.

His eyes glowed bright crimson, fangs lengthening as the Alpha rose in full power.

Milo turned, face pale.

"It's him."

Lyra's heart stopped.

"Who?"

Milo swallowed hard.

"The High Alpha."

Silence.

Cold.

Deadly.

Final.

Kael stepped in front of Lyra, blocking her from the door.

His voice was a quiet, lethal growl.

"Stay close. Don't run. Don't panic."

Lyra grabbed his hand without thinking.

"Kael-"

He looked back at her.

And for the first time, she saw fear in his eyes.

Not for himself.

For her.

"He's here for you," Kael murmured.

"The prophecy has begun."

The fortress trembled again.

A roar split the air.

Warriors screamed outside.

Kael lowered his head, touching his forehead to Lyra's for half a second.

"Whatever happens," he whispered,

"you survive. Understand?"

Lyra's voice cracked.

"Not without you."

His hand tightened around hers.

And then the final blow hit the gates, splintering them apart.

Milo drew his blades.

Kael shifted-bones cracking, muscles expanding, fur bursting through his skin as his massive shadow wolf form took over.

The door blew open-

And the High Alpha stepped inside.

Chapter 20

🐺CHAPTER 20 - THE FIRST CLASH

"No one survives the first strike unscathed."

The fortress shook again as the High Alpha's massive shadow fell across the main hall. His golden eyes burned like molten sun, scanning the room with lethal precision. Every warrior froze, sensing the power radiating from him.

Kael's jaw tightened. His wolf surged inside him, fur bristling, claws extending. He planted himself firmly in front of Lyra, his massive frame a living shield.

"Stay behind me," Kael growled, low and dangerous.

Lyra's silver veins pulsed under her skin, reacting to the High Alpha's power. Her wolf stirred, fierce and untamed.

We're ready, it whispered.

We fight. We survive. We rise.

The High Alpha's lips curled into a cold, mocking smile.

"So, this is the little Silverblood Mate," he said, voice echoing through the hall. "I can feel the prophecy pulsing through her veins. Such power in such a fragile form."

Lyra's chest tightened. She didn't feel fragile. She felt... burning. Alive. Powerful. And connected to Kael in a way no one could break.

Kael bared his teeth, low and threatening.

"She is under my protection. Step closer, and I'll end you."

The High Alpha chuckled darkly, taking a deliberate step forward.

"End me?" he said. "Do you even understand what you face, Kael Darkbane? The full might of the Moonblood Alpha stands before you-and behind me lies centuries of blood, loyalty, and power you've never touched."

Kael snarled, wolf form flaring, crimson eyes blazing.

"I don't care how powerful you are. If you touch her, I'll tear you apart myself."

In an instant, the air snapped.

The High Alpha lunged.

Kael met him head-on. The impact was deafening-metallic echoes, stone cracking, silver sparks flying from the force of the collision.

Lyra stumbled backward, her heart racing. She raised her hands instinctively, silver energy flowing from her palms. The Oath flared brightly, forming a protective barrier around her.

Focus, her wolf whispered.

Help him. Protect him.

Kael grunted as the High Alpha slammed him into a wall, sending stones scattering across the hall. Blood trickled from Kael's lips, but he rose again immediately, eyes glowing with fury.

The High Alpha smirked.

"You've grown strong, Kael. But this is only the beginning. I didn't come alone."

From the shadows of the hall, dozens of Alpha-level warriors emerged, their eyes shining with golden fire. The prophecy's warning hung in the air: a mate of silver blood would rise-and the world would tremble.

Lyra felt it. The surge of power-the pull of destiny threading through her veins.

Kael growled, moving in front of her again.

"No. You will not touch her," he said, voice shaking with raw emotion. "Not you. Not anyone."

Lyra's hands glowed brighter, silver energy coiling like serpents around her arms. Her wolf roared, a sound so primal it made the warriors hesitate.

The High Alpha's eyes narrowed.

"So she fights back. Interesting."

Kael leapt forward again, teeth bared. The two collided in the center of the hall with a force that shook the walls. Stones and splinters flew, torchlight flickered wildly, and the air burned with raw power.

Lyra focused, drawing her strength from the Oath, from her mark, from Kael. She surged forward, silver energy whipping toward the High Alpha's back, throwing one of his warriors off balance.

Kael roared in triumph.

"We fight together," he shouted, eyes blazing crimson.

The High Alpha spun, fury igniting in his golden gaze.

"You dare touch me?!"

The first real battle had begun.

And the prophecy... was finally unleashed.

Lyra's hands were steady. Her wolf's growl harmonized with Kael's.

Together... they were a force neither the High Alpha nor his warriors had ever faced.

And for the first time, Lyra understood the truth of the prophecy:

She was not just a mate. She was a weapon. A queen. A storm.
