Betrayed by my Dear Mate Chapter 1

The day I went to retrieve my mating rings from the jeweler, a chill coursed through me, I had a feeling that something wasn't right, I wasn’t wrong about it. There were two custom-made rings. One belonged to me, Kaia Valen, daughter of Alpha Valen.

The other? It was for Talia Aldrich, an omega sponsored by my boyfriend, Jaxon Stone.

The revelation felt like a silver-tipped blade piercing my heart, how in the world could there be two identical rings, meant for two different she-wolves?

I’d designed my ring myself for the mating ceremony that would bind Jaxon and me together. Its inner circle was inlaid with the date we met, along with our names carved in ancient werewolf symbols, a testament to the sacred bond we were supposed to share for eternity, to my horror, Talia's ring bore the same design. The same names, the same date—only it marked the beginning of their relationship.

It felt like a cruel mockery.

How could Jaxon betray me like this? My pulse raced with rage, the wolf inside me stirring, clawing to break free. My connection to Jaxon, my supposed fated mate, now felt like a twisted joke.

I couldn't just let this pass. I needed to confront him.

The mating bond was the most sacred connection between wolves, something you couldn’t simply hand over to someone else. Yet Jaxon had done exactly that. He had given the same symbol, the same pledge of love, to another wolf. It was an unforgivable act, a violation of everything we stood for.

Clenching the ring in my fist, I stormed out of the jeweler’s. The moon hung low in the sky, casting an eerie glow over the pack’s territory, the wind howled through the trees, and for a moment, I felt a strange calm wash over me. I had to stay focus, even as my wolf instincts urged me to run and confront Jaxon, to demand the truth.

I walked toward the pack’s gathering hall, where Jaxon had asked me to meet him, I received a message from him: “Waiting for you,” along with the location of a nearby cabin deep in the woods.

I hesitated, sensing something was off. Still, I followed the path, my senses heightened.

My wolf stirred beneath the surface, ready to unleash fury at the slightest hint of danger.

I arrived at the cabin just as dusk settled in, through the open window, I could hear Jaxon’s low voice, speaking into the phone with a tense urgency. “Please help me buy a house for Talia in your name,” he growled. “Don’t let Kaia find out.”

The sound of my name on his lips, coupled with the betrayal in his words, sent a jolt of pain through my chest. The ring in my hand felt like a heavy burden, a reminder of everything I had lost.

I approached the door quietly, my heart racing as I listened to his next words. “I love her, I can’t give up Talia.”

His declaration hit me harder than any blow.

Those words weren’t meant for me.

They were for her.

A fire ignited inside me, my wolf instincts fighting to take control. My bond with Jaxon was crumbling, dissolving into nothingness as I realized the depth of his betrayal.

Fine. If he loved Talia so much, he could have her. I wasn’t going to fight for a mate who didn’t want me.

With a bitter smile, I knocked on the door. My wolf on edge, ready for confrontation.

The door creaked open, and Jaxon turned to face me, his eyes wide with surprise, panic flashing on his face briefly before he masked it.

“Kaia… when did you get here?” he asked, stepping forward.

“Just now,” I replied, my voice steady despite the storm raging within. “Who were you talking to?”

He hesitated, searching my expression before quickly composing himself. “Oh, it’s nothing. Just pack business, nothing you need to worry about.”

I raised an eyebrow, refusing to let him off the hook. “Pack business right? Sure. Let’s eat. You’ll need to get back to the packhouse soon anyway.”

Jaxon exhaled in relief, calling the waiter over, though his eyes never left me.

He could sense something was off but couldn’t quite place it.

“How was the ring?” he asked, clearly trying to steer the conversation back to something lighthearted. “Did it turn out the way you wanted?”

I forced a smile, but it didn’t reach my eyes. “It was beautiful,” I said, then added, “Though, there was something odd. I found another one exactly like mine, with Talia’s name on it.”

His eyes flashed with a brief moment of panic before he quickly covered it up with a nonchalant shrug. “Must have been a mistake. I’ll check with the jeweler.”

I said nothing more, letting the silence stretch between us. My heart felt colder than ever. Jaxon had made his choice, and I had finally seen the truth—I was never really his.

As I sat there, memories of our relationship flashed before me. I recalled how I had once been the center of his world, how he would listen patiently to my stories and indulge my every whim. Every thing changed the moment Talia came into our lives.

Jaxon grew impatient with me, dismissive even, I would start to share my day, and he would interrupt, saying, “Girls are cuter when they talk less. You should talk less and be quiet.”

Each time, my heart would ache a little more, realizing he didn’t care about my feelings anymore. I felt like a fool, clinging to a relationship that had been wilting away before my eyes..
