A Kingdom's Lost Legacy Chapter 1

Margaret stood at the edge of her makeshift camp, tension gradually dissipating as she recognized the familiar figure emerging from the bushes. Cody, the older rogue who had taken her under his wing, had a knack for appearing just when she needed him the most.

"You're right, Cody," Margaret admitted, a faint smile touching her lips. "I suppose old habits die hard, especially for someone like me." She spoke with a sense of gratitude, appreciative of the wisdom and guidance Cody had shared with her over the years.

He approached her with a knowing look in his eyes, a mix of fatherly concern and the wisdom that came from years of surviving in the wild. "Being alert is what's kept you alive all this time. It's a trait that sets you apart from the others with the rogue title."

Margaret nodded, acknowledging the truth in his words. She had seen her fair share of rogues who were driven by aggression and chaos, lacking the self-control she held on to. She was grateful for her conscience, for the restraint that allowed her to live her life without causing unnecessary harm.

Cody glanced around at the camp, assessing her state. "How's everything been for you lately? Any trouble?"

Margaret sighed, recounting the recent encounters she'd had with rogue packs and the constant struggle for survival. "Same old, same old. It's a tough life out here, but I've managed."

He placed a hand on her shoulder, offering silent reassurance. "You're stronger than you know, Margaret. But remember, you don't have to face it all alone. I'll always be here for you."

Her eyes softened with gratitude, appreciating the steadying presence of a true friend. "Thank you, Cody. That means more to me than words can express."

As the day continued, they exchanged stories and advice, each learning from the other. Margaret knew that despite the hardships of her rogue life, she had found a sense of family and mentorship in Cody. And for that, she was immensely thankful.

Margaret's heart pounded in her chest as she sprinted through the dense forest. The adrenaline surged through her veins, pushing her to run faster and harder. She knew she couldn't afford to look back, couldn't afford to slow down even for a moment. The howls grew louder, and the scent of the approaching rogues hung heavily in the air.

Branches whipped past her, and the ground beneath her feet was uneven, but she pushed through. She had learned from Cody, honed her skills to survive in moments like these. Her mind raced, calculating the best route, searching for a place to hide or escape.

As she ran, she glanced around, her sharp instincts guiding her towards a rocky outcrop that provided some cover. Margaret scaled the rocks swiftly, finding a narrow crevice to wedge herself into. It was a tight fit, but she pressed her body against the cold rock, hoping the rogues wouldn't catch her scent.

The howling grew louder, indicating the rogues were closing in. She held her breath, trying to steady her racing heart. Time seemed to stretch as she waited, every second feeling like an eternity.

Minutes passed, and the howls slowly faded into the distance. Margaret remained in her hiding spot, cautious and still, allowing the sounds of the forest to regain their normalcy. It was a while before she dared to move, and even then, she moved cautiously, checking her surroundings and ensuring the rogues were truly gone.

Once she was certain the danger had passed, she emerged from her hiding place. Her heart still raced, but relief washed over her. Cody had been right; her instincts had served her well. She knew she needed to find a new spot, a new place to set up camp. Somewhere the rogues wouldn't easily find her.

Margaret took a deep breath and began to plan her next moves, her thoughts focused on survival and the continued fight for her freedom. The rogue life was tough, but she was tougher. She had learned from the best, and she was ready to face whatever challenges came her way.
